3 DayLite s General Tubular Light System The tubular light kit is designed to add natural light to almost any area of the house. It is simple to install and possibly one of the lowest priced units on the market today (with the highest quality and performance guidelines). It is commonly used in bathrooms, hallways, stairways, closets, and kitchens with great success. To determine the required amount of pipe, measure roof to ceiling and add one foot. The flashing can be cut to adjust to various pitches flat to 6/12. Use elbows when angle is more than 30 degrees. 4 DayLite Solar Lighting Systems Limited Lifetime Warranty Warranty Coverage: Subject to the conditions, exclusions and limitations stated herein, THE DAYLITE COMPANY warrants its product, DayLite 8 and DayLite 12, under this warranty document to be free from defects in material and workmanship which would render its products unfit for their normal and recommended use and service. THIS LIMITED WARRANTY IS IN EFFECT FOR AS LONG AS THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER OWNS THE DAYLITE. THIS WARRANTY COVERS DEFECTS WHICH BECOME EVIDENT AT ANY TIME DURING THE OWNERSHIP BY SUCH FIRST PURCHASER, provided (a) that written notice ofdefect(s) is given to and received by THE DAYLITE COM- PANY, at the address set forth below is followed. This warranty is extended only to the first purchaser of the product who purchases the product for purposes other than resale, hereinafter called the Purchaser. Exclusions from Coverage: This warranty does not cover (or protect): 1. Any purchaser or owner of The Daylite Company product except the Purchaser as hereinabove defined. 2. Defects or damages arising in, or as a result of, shipment by common carriers, private transportation, and/or other means of transportation. 3. Defects or damages arising out of, or as the result of, mishandling and/or defective or improper installation of The Daylite Company product (including installation not in accordance with The Daylite Company s instructions). 4. Products installed in or submitted to high heat, high moisture or extreme temperature changes. 5. Products subjected to stress and strain resulting from movement of building and/or building components or resulting from expansion or contraction of building components or high vibration environments. 6. Defects or damages arising out of, or as the result of, accident. Act of God, intentional human act, product misuse or abuse, or such other circumstances beyond the control of The Daylite Company. 7. Scratches and abrasions due to improper handling or improper cleaning. 8. Products used outside the continental United States. Warranty Claim Procedure: In the event of discovery of a defect in THE DAYLITE COMPANY S product for which warranty coverage is provided hereunder, Purchaser must follow this procedure. 1. All warranty claims must be presented in writing to the Customer Service Manager, THE DAYLITE COMPANY, P.O. Box Ventura, CA Purchaser must use reasonable diligence and efforts to provide in the written claim to THE DAYLITE COMPANY, all of the following: Nature or adequate description ofdefect(s). Identification of product involved (size, design, and type and product number). Date of Purchaser, place of purchase, from who purchased, and date of delivery to Purchaser. 3. Purchaser, at THE DAYLITE COMPANY S option, must permit claimed defective product to be inspected by THE DAYLITE COMPANY or its representative designated for such inspection purposes. 4. Purchaser shall pay any shipping, labor, removal of original product, installation, or other charges and expenses claimed or incurred by Purchaser in the event that Purchaser s warranty claims falls within the warranty coverage provided herein. Warranty Action: In fulfilling its warranty, THE DAYLITE COMPANY has the option of providing (a) a replacement product of like kind and design, or (b) a refund to Purchaser based upon THE DAYLITE COMPANY S selling price effective on the date of Purchaser s purchase. Within thirty (30) days after receipt of Purchasers written warranty claims, THE DAYLITE COMPANY shall review the claim, conduct an inspection of the product (optional) and determine whether it falls within the warranty coverage: and if it does so fall, THE DAYLITE COMPANY shall make an election between (a) and (b) above and perform the warranty action in accordance with the election, THE DAYLITE COMPANY S claim review, inspection (optional), determination of coverage, election, and performance under this warranty shall be conducted only during its usual business hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Disclaimer: DAYLITE COMPANY MAKES THE LIMITED WARRANTY ON THE FACE HEREOF, EXCLUSIVE AND IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER EXPRESS WARRANTIES, THE LATTER BEING EXCLUDED FROM THIS TRANSACTION, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, SHALL NOT EXTEND BEYOND THE DURATION OF THE EXPRESS LIMITED WARRANTY ON THE FACE HEREOF. This limitation of remedies is not intended to cover consequential damages for personal injuries in the case of consumer goods. To the extent that applicable local laws provide legal remedies or damages despite the provisions of this limited warranty. Purchaser is advised to consult such local laws. This limited warranty cannot be modified in any way except by written instrument duly executed by both THE DAYLITE COMPANY and Purchaser. Invalidation of any one or more of the provisions of this limited warranty shall in no way affect any of the other provisions hereof, which remain in fall force and effect. 5 DayLite Installation Guide Materials/Tools needed: 1 tube white latexdody caulking, portable drill, tape measure, appropriate saw(s), plumb line, long drywall screws or nails, metal snips, proper eye protection & face mask (due to insulation being an irritant to exposed flesh and lungs, wearing protective gear is recommended.) A Step 1. Locate the area where the DayLite is to be located. Remember a 8 inch Daylite will light up 100 square feet (10x10), a 12 inch Day- Lite will light up 300 square feel. Usually try to center the Daylite over the area most needing the light. (Desk, work area, etc.) NOTE; Measure minimum 4 for DayLite 8 or 6 for DayLite 12 B Once determined Tap on the ceiling above desired location to locate ceiling joist. Avoiding the joist, drill small hole and insert a small wire (coal hangar) through the ceiling so you will be able to locate the wire in the attic. C Step 2. Enter the attic being careful to place weight only on the ceiling joists. Locate the wire inserted through the ceiling from below. Remove all insulation around the wire. Measure the proper clearance (distance) from the nearest joist. For a DayLite 8, you will need a 4 inch minimum clearance from any joist, a DayLite 12 requires 6 inches minimum from any joist. [A] Ensure that the unit will clear all obstructions. If properly measured the DayLite will be secured to a ceiling joist* as well as be flush to the roof rafters. Drill long screw through ceiling to mark correct location that insures clearance. [B] See Note at end of Step 9. After confirming ceiling location, and freedom from other obstacles (roof vents, ducts, etc.) use a plumb line from center of ceiling mark, and transfer to the above roof. [C] If there is less than 5 or 7 clearance (depending on unit) from nearest rafter, measure and mark again for locator screw. [D] Drill a long screw through the roof vertically so it can be located on the roof. [E] NOTE! Measure 5 for DayLite 8 or 7 for DayLite 12 to accomodate flashing requirements D E

6 F Step 3. Cutting the ceiling: Remove ceiling ring from box and center me ring on me ceiling screw protruding down from the attic. Using a pencil, trace the inner circle. This will give you a perfect pattern on the ceiling. [F] Ceiling work is messy so use a dropcloth. NOTE: Ring is centered on screw G After tracing the hole location, carefully cut the circle out with appropriate saw, being careful not to cut into ceiling joist. Then re-center ceiling mounting ring on hole and using long screws, screw through ceiling ring s outside set of holes, through the ceiling, and into plastic nut tabs provided for a secure attachment. [G] The Lens and Trim Ring will be attached AFTER the roof work is completed. Apply foam gasket onto ceiling ring. H Step 4. Roof Work: Find screw or nail used to locate center of hole and place roof flashing over the screw and center. Trace inside of flashing onto roofing shingles. [H] Remove flashing. Being careful not to cut into rafter, cut out the circular pattern [I] with appropriate saw (saw-zall), holding on to roof piece (by center screw) to ensure it does not fall through lower ceiling. I Using a speed bar or chisel, carefully loosen existing shingles around hole and remove roof nails that interfere with the insertion of roof flashing. When flashing will slide easily under shingles (and under paper when possible), remove and caulk flashing along the bottom & top as shown [J] with the (supplied) caulking, and slide under roof shingles, centering on hole. [K] J IMPORTANT! Apply caulking as shown to both sides of flashing before sliding shingles. [J] DayLite

7 Step 5. Adjust root flashing so it is perpendicular and screw down with at least 3 screws. [K] Caulk the 3 screw heads and around the base and front seam on the flashing. Caulk under any remaining roof shingles around the flashing to secure. Make it look neat. Step 6. Measure distance from the ceiling to the top of the roof flashing and add 3 inches. (See Basic Overview at top of page 2) (Excess is trimmed in Step 9) Make sure you have enough extension. Remove extension pipe from box and peel liner down about halfway. Insert male seam into snaplock making sure the ends of the pipe are even. (See Photo [L]) Push in till you have a Snap and the pipe will lock together. Completely remove liner from top dome assembly pipe. Insert domed pipe into lower extension pipe. Tape the pipes together with the supplied metal tape making a tight seal. [M] Take assembled unit (dome end up) and lower it through flashing until it goes through ceiling ring. Leave at least a 1/2 clearance between dome assembly and top of roof flashing. [N] NOTE: You may need to retrim roof flashing to fit tube through. Also, do not force through ceiling hole; retrim ceiling hole if necessary. Step 7. Again, allowing at least 1/2 clearance between the edge of the dome and top edge of roof flashing, screw at least 3 sheet metal screws through flashing into tube. Caulk all seams including base scam before applying storm collar (approx. 1/4 above tube/flashing seam). Caulk storm collar to the tube. [N] Note: In high humidity areas & locations such as bathrooms, sauna rooms etc., it is recommended to caulk all seams including snaplock seams to help minimize against moisture being drawn into tube. Step 8. Mask acrylic dome if necessary and paint storm collar & flashing to roof color. Caulk all seams around storm collar from above and below K L M N

8 Step 9. Return to inside and trim off excess tube so that there is about 1/4 inch revealed. [O] With white latex caulking (not provided), caulk the tube to the ceiling mounting ring. This will keep out attic debris and provides an airtight seal. Reach into pipe and remove remaining protective liner. Drill a screw through tube into ceiling joist. [P] Note: If the location of the DayLite tube is not adjacent to a ceiling joist, it is recommended that a backing piece of 2x4 be installed between joists and adjacent to opening in order to provide this support point. Step 10. Remove trim ring from box, insert lens into ring. Lift up over ceiling mounting ring and rotate clockwise till trim assembly pulls tight against ceiling. [Q] (It may be necessary to clean texture or debris from around ceiling mounting ring in order to make a flush even seal.) Final Note : In high humidity areas & locations such as bathrooms, sauna rooms etc., it is recommended lo caulk all seams including lens to ceiling mounting ring.
