2 Manual Overview The purpose of this document is to describe how to demo the Sigma FSP to a customer using the Sigma FSP demo unit (model number DEMOFSP) and Sigma FSP demo program. This demonstration covers a variety of functions in the Sigma FSP, including the electronic cam function which is available as an option. Table 1. Supporting Application Documents Document Title Document Number Technical Note Technical Note: Sigma FSP How to Demo TN.MCD Example Code Example Code: Sigma FSP Demo Program EC.MCD Demo Power Switch Auxiliary Encoder Sigma FSP SGMAH Control Panel Fig 1. 4 Power-Up Sequence The following describes the power-up sequence of the Sigma FSP demo program. 1. Verify that the motor and encoder cables are connected to the Sigma FSP 2. Verify that the power cable is plugged into the demo unit and the wall outlet 3. Verify that the main power and control power switches are turned off (down) 4. Turn on the demo power switch adjacent to where the power cables plugs into the demo unit 5. Turn on the main power and control power to the Sigma FSP 6. The Sigma FSP will power-up 7. After 2.5 sec, the servo motor will enable 8. Once enabled, the Sigma FSP will home the motor to the C-channel, followed by an offset move To adjust the home offset location so the label points to top-dead-center after homing, open the FlexWorks program and adjust Var_02 in line 4 of the program as needed. The program must be downloaded after each change to the program. 9. Once homing is completed, the Sigma FSP will begin looping through the main program to call the subroutines according to the status of the digital input switches. January 8, 2007 Page 4 of 6
5 Digital Input 1 Homing The homing routine is executed after Digital Input 1 is toggled on. After engaged, the motor will rotate forward until it locates the C-channel, and then the motor will move to a home offset position. The home offset distance is programmed into Var_02 in line 4 of the demo program. 2. Turn on SI1 to begin homing routine 3. Servo will home to the C-channel, and then perform a home offset move 4. Adjust Var_02 in the program to modify the home offset as desired 5. Turn off SI1 Digital Input 2 Indexing The indexing routine begins by sending the motor back to the home position. If the registration routine has been running for quite some time, it may be beneficial to run the Home routine by toggling Digital Input 1 prior to performing the indexing routine. After returning home, the motor will perform three separate five revolution indexes in the forward direction, and then return to the home position in one index. 2. Turn on SI2 to begin indexing routine 3. Turn off SI2 to stop indexing routine routine will continue until the end of the current sequence Digital Input 3 Registration After turning on Digital Input 3, the motor will jog at 5 rev/sec. The motor will continue to jog (as long as Digital Input 3 is turned on) until Digital Input 6 is toggled on. Digital Input 6 is the dedicated registration input on the Sigma FSP. After sensing the registration, the motor will index one more revolution at a reduced speed of 1 rev/sec. 2. Turn on SI3 to start motor jogging for registration routine, leave SI3 on 3. To end motor jogging without the registration index, turn SI3 off while the motor is jogging 4. Turn on SI6 to start registration index 5. After registration has completed, turn SI3 and SI6 off. January 8, 2007 Page 5 of 6
6 Digital Input 4 Continuous Camming The continuous camming mode engages the motor as a slave to the Sigma FSP auxiliary encoder input, which is the encoder wheel on the Sigma FSP demo unit. Continuous camming allows the cam cycle to run indefinitely. 2. Turn on SI4 to begin the non-continuous camming routine 3. Turn the auxiliary encoder wheel, the cam will engage immediately and continue running as long as the encoder wheel is turned 4. Turn off SI4 to end the non-continuous camming routine Digital Input 5 Non-Continuous Camming The non-continuous camming mode engages the motor as a slave to the Sigma FSP auxiliary encoder input, which is the encoder wheel on the Sigma FSP demo unit. Non-continuous camming allows the cam cycle to run one cycle and stop, even if the auxiliary encoder input continues to increase in value. 2. Turn on SI5 to begin the non-continuous camming routine 3. Turn the auxiliary encoder wheel, the cam will engage immediately and run one cycle until the auxiliary encoder reaches the maximum master value of the cam cycle 4. Turn off SI5 to end the non-continuous camming routine January 8, 2007 Page 6 of 6
