KraftyKid s Suncatcher Craft Project the room. Suncatchers are such pretty crafts to make because when you hang them near a window or other bright sunny spot they look pretty when the sun hits them because they can reflect the light around Usually suncatchers are made from stained glass, melted crayons, crystals, or painted plastic. Making a sun catcher is a nice craft to make and we think that you will really have a lot of fun making one. After you finish making these colorful objects, hang them in a window to brighten up your bedroom or another room in the house. Make Your Own Rainbow Fun Facts AboutLight 1. What is light? Light is a form of energy which our sense of sight can detect. It is made of electromagnetic radiation and travels in a straight path. 2. What is the speed of light? The speed of light is the speed at which light travels. It is about 300,000 kilometres per second. Nothing travels faster than light. 3. Why are there different colors of light? There are different colors of light because they are light waves which have different wavelengths. Red light has the longest wavelength while violet light has the shortest wavelength. 4. What are the primary colors of light? Red, green and blue are the primary colors of light. Mixing them in various ways will make all other colors, including white 5. What is reflection? - The bouncing back of light waves when they hit an object with a very smooth and shiny surface, like a mirror, is called reflection. 6. What is refraction? -The bending of light as it passes from one transparent substance to another, like air to water, is called refraction. You can easily produce a rainbow in your room. Take a flat container, pour some water in it and place a mirror in the water. Place the mirror partly in the water and partly out of the water. Place the 7. What makes a rainbow? - When sunlight is intercepted by a drop of water in the atmosphere, some of the light refracts into the drop, reflects from the drop's inner surface, and then refracts out of the drop. The first refraction separates the sunlight into its component colors, and the second refraction increases the separation. The result is a rainbow.

container in front of the window with the part of the mirror that is out of the water facing towards the sun. You can see a small rainbow on the wall under the reflected white light. Learn How to Mix Colors The primary colors are: red blue yellow Primary colors cannot be made from other colors. Artists create all the other colors of the rainbow by mixing together the primary colors. The secondary colors are: green orange violet (purple) Secondary colors are made by mixing two primary colors. Each secondary color is made from the two primary colors closest to it on the color wheel Just by mixing these colors, you can get all the colors of the rainbow:

When you think about it. That s really amazing, isn t it? It s like a fun and colorful math problem! Color Wheel Project Color wheels show us how colors are related. They remind artists how to mix and think about colors. WHAT YOU'LL NEED: Pattern Cardstock 3 pieces of cellophane paper: red, blue, and yellow White glue Scissors Hole punch Paper fastener

HOW TO MAKE IT: 1. Cut out the pattern below. 2. Trace around this pattern on the cardstock six times. Cut out each piece, making sure to cut out the center. 3. Cut the cellophane windows just smaller than the outside of your frame, but larger than the inside measurement. 4. Sandwich a colored piece of cellophane between two pieces of cut out cardstock. Glue together to make a window. Repeat until all three windows are made. 5. When they are dry, stack on top of each other and punch a hole in the center of the narrow end and fasten together with a paper fastener. TIPS: Put the different colors on top of each other and hold towards the sun. See how two colors combined makes a new color. Tissue Paper Sun Catcher Here s another sun catcher craft for you to give a try. You can create your own sun catcher using scraps of tissue paper and some construction paper.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED: Construction paper Water Wax Paper Mixing Container Glue Tissue Paper Hole punch or pencil Yellow Sun Design INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Cut out the sun design on a sheet of construction paper. 2. Cut the center from the paper, leaving at least one half of an inch all the way around to create a border for the sun catcher. 3. Mix equal parts of white school glue and water in a small container. 4. Lay the frame, glue and tissue paper on a sheet of waxed paper and create the sun catcher by dipping pieces of tissue paper into the glue solution and putting them inside the construction paper frame. 5. Overlap pieces of tissue paper slightly and be sure that all outer edges of tissue paper make contact with the construction paper frame. Allow the sun catcher to dry completely. (24 hours). 6. Peel the star from the waxed paper. 7. Use a hole punch or the end of a pencil to make a hole in the construction paper frame so that the sun catcher can be hung. 8. Tissue paper sun catchers can be made in a variety of different sizes and designs. Make sure to check out KraftyKid for more patterns that you can use to make even more suncatchers.
