1 Experience the Chinese Traditional Culture In a Village in Beijing Gao Bei Dian Village is located about 8km east of the Tian an Men Square, hence the name The nearest village to the Tian an Men Square. Since 1291 A.D. in the Yuan dynasty, it became the beginning of the Grand Canal, and distributing center of the Imperial Grain. The Grand Canal (also known as the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal), is the longest canal or artificial river in the world. The Grand Canal becomes a UNESCO World Heritage Site in The oldest parts of the canal date back to the 5th century BC. During the Yuan dynasty ( ) the capital of China was moved to Beijing, the Grand Canal was lengthened to about 1800km, linking Beijing and Hangzhou of Yangtze River Delta with a direct north south waterway. Since 1291, as the beginning of Grand Canal, the Gao Bei Dian Village becomes a distributing center of the Imperial Grain. It is also called The First Village of the Grand Canal. Nowadays, Gao Bei Dian Village is about 2.37 square kilometer with 6200 residence. The tourists could visit Relic of Ancient Pound Lock, Dragon King Temple, General Temple, and the antique furniture street.
