1 Baptisms Scope Baptisms 1st January 1801 to 2nd October 1880 (including duplicate entries separately recorded between 3rd January 1858 and 27th October 1867). Arrangement Entries are arranged alphabetically by surname, in a format similar to the original, with some common terms abbreviated as noted below. The general format is : Baptisms before January 1813 Child s surname & forenames, sex, parents forenames, birth date, baptismal date Baptisms after December 1812 Child s surname & forenames, sex, parents forenames, parents abode, father s occupation birth date, baptismal date Some entries have two dates : the first (prefixed as noted below) is the birth, the second the baptism ~ unless specified otherwise, the birth year is the same as that of the baptism. Names are as in the original, and spellings have not been standardised. Entries are numbered, and the numbers used in the indexes starting on page 40.
