10 . MOUNTING. Mounting Considerations.. Mounting considerations for RC-00F/RC-00T As shown on page -, the rack console is normally installed on the bridge. Install the rack console where the equipment can be easily operated, checked and serviced. Consult with shipyard personnel and ship's officer-in-charge to determine best location. The location must satisfy the following points: Consider relation to other equipment near mounting site and mounting direction. Select a location where controls can be easily operated. Ample space should be left at the sides of the equipment to enable servicing and to provide ventilation. Select a location where shock and vibration are minimal. Locate the console away from water splash and rain. The temperature and humidity of the location should be both stable and moderate. If the rack console is to be installed in the radio room, Distress Alert/Received Call Unit IC-0, Distress Alert Unit IC-0, Remote Station RB-00, and EGC Printer PP-0 must be installed on the bridge. The performance of a magnetic compass will be affected if placed too close to the rack console. Separate it from a compass by the following distances to prevent compass error. 11 . MOUNTING.. Mounting considerations for antenna coupler of SSB radiotelephone The antenna coupler is fully waterproof thus it can be installed outdoors. For GMDSS retrofit using existing SSB antenna, install the antenna coupler in the radio room, near the antenna switch box. When selecting a mounting location keep in mind the following points: Separate the coupler from navigation equipment and other radio equipment to prevent mutual interference. The coupler should be installed as close to the lead-in insulator as possible. For optimum radio energy install the coupler as close to the ground as possible. Select a location where the coupler can be easily serviced and checked... Mounting considerations for SSB radiotelephone antenna Antenna requirements Use a long wire antenna of to 0 meters in length or a Tx whip antenna. (For GMDSS retrofit, the existing antenna may be used.) For best radiation efficiency the length should be more than meters. Use an antenna whose vertical section is long; a long horizontal section does not provide sufficient radiation. Be sure to tune the antenna after completing the installation. If the antenna cannot be properly tuned, consider adjusting its length. Antenna laying precautions The length of the vertical portion of the antenna should be longer than meters and the slant angle should be within 0. Locate the antenna well away from metallic structures such as stays and masts. Smoke will cause poor insulation in insulators. Locate the antenna away from smokestacks. Locate the antenna out of the beamwidth of an Inmarsat antenna. For indoor installation of the coupler, use lead-in insulator YA- to make the connection to the coupler. Also, use a high quality antenna switch box and stand-off insulator. If the antenna is connected directly to the coupler, use a strain insulator to prevent insulator fatigue at the coupler. Lay the antenna where it cannot normally be touched by personnel, to prevent electrical shock. -

12 . MOUNTING.. Mounting considerations for Inmarsat-C antenna Select the mounting location for the antenna unit of the Inmarsat-C considering the following points: The ideal mounting location is where no obstacle appears in the fore and aft directions down to - and down to - in the port and starboard directions. ANTENNA UNIT Mounting location for Inmarsat-C antenna Locate the antenna where it will not be interfered by S-band radar antenna: At least meters from the radar antenna in horizontal distance and at least meters above the radiator. to meters from the radiator in horizontal distance and at least. meters above the radiator. At least meters out of the radar beam. Install above this line. m Recommended mounting area Do not install in this area.. m Horizontal m m Radar beam and Inmarsat-C antenna mounting location The allowable vibration level as specified by Inmarsat is as follows: -0 Hz Maximum amplitude ±. mm 0-00 Hz Peak acceleration.0 G Locate the antenna away from smokestacks. Smoke deposits on the antenna can interfere with transmission. -

19 . MOUNTING. Grounding the Antenna Coupler for SSB Radiotelephone Antenna radiation efficiency is largely determined by the quality of the ground system. For maximum efficiency ground the coupler as shown below. Weld a steel plate with copper strap as close to the antenna coupler as possible and connect it to the coupler. (The length of the copper strap between the ground and the ground terminal on the coupler should be as short as possible.) Solder the point where the copper plate connects to the coupler, to prevent corrosion and to ensure tight connection. CAUTION Ground the equipment to prevent interference and electrical shock.
