2 Creative Power Resources brings a wide range of knowledge and experience to the development of electronic power conditioners used in commercial, military and space environments. We have our own in-house magnetics and machine shop capability and an association with a sheet-metal shop to permit rapid prototyping. We have extensive experience in power electronics design including support for the transition to manufacturing with the issues of reproducibility. Our organization is dedicated to insuring that every product is reproducible in volume and meets performance and cost constraints. Our backgrounds include both low voltage and high voltage (to 30KV) applications at power levels ranging from less than one watt to hundreds of kilowatts. Operating frequencies range from 50 Hz to 500 kilohertz. Additional highlights of our experience and capabilities include: Applications involving stringent design requirements such as high output power, high efficiency, pulsed loads, redundancy, Built-In-Test, high reliability, EMI control and power factor correction. Military/Space experience includes worst case analysis (EVA and RSS) and design for a radiation environment. Commercial experience includes applications where recurring cost of the design is the overriding requirement. The team is well versed in applications requiring agency approvals. Various circuit architectures including buck, boost, flyback, and various derivatives including push-pull and bridge types. Products included voltage and current fed designs and the newer soft switching (transition resonant) topologies for single and multiple output applications. Strong background in feedback loops with capability in voltage mode, current mode (peak and average) and hysteretic mode control. Extensive High Voltage experience for commercial, military and space applications. CRT supplies, TWT supplies (extensive work) and other specialized applications are included in the experience. Power levels range from less than one watt to multi-kilowatts at voltages to 30KV for shippable products (50KV for test systems). Electric fields control and partial discharge (corona) prevention are well understood including the special problems associated with operation at reduced atmospheric pressure. Magnetics Design capability ranges from power line frequencies to RF designs that incorporate transmission line techniques to control parasitic inductance and capacitance. Experience includes both low voltage (including integrated magnetics) and high voltage magnetics design. We are familiar with the encapsulation techniques for achieving void-free castings for HV applications including the use of over-pressure during cure. The team has strong experience in motors and control systems.
3 Strong computer modeling experience frequently allows products to proceed directly from a paper design to packaged hardware with no breadboard. This capability has very important time to market implications in the commercial world. Modems with data and fax capability and High Speed Internet access are available to transmit information to the customer. The team has strong digital circuit design capability. Designs have employed FPGAs, ASICs, power hybrids and surface mount technology to achieve high packaging densities. Products include both air and conduction cooled applications. The team is experienced in designing for a vacuum environment. Backgrounds include strong PCB layout and packaging experience for power supply applications. PCB layout services are available. Packaging experience includes HV assemblies that must be encapsulated. We have access to thermal and structural analysts for design verification analysis of applications with difficult environmental requirements. 3-D Mechanical CAD services are available. Contract manufacturing facilities are available to build prototypes or longer production runs if desired. THE CREATIVE POWER RESOURCES TEAM CPR is composed of two principals who represent all of the key disciplines required to design state of the art power supplies. A brief description of the backgrounds of the CPR team follows: Robert Burnet ( ): Robert has more than 30 years of experience and has degrees in both Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (Masters). He brings that unique perspective to the mechanical design of power supplies including complex, high-density packaging applications. His background includes substantial motor design experience. He owns his own machine shop and electronics lab and has a relationship with a sheet metal shop (G. P. Precision in Hackettstown, NJ) for quick turn prototyping. Bob has many years of magnetics design
4 experience including numerous applications with safety agency requirements. He has packaged RF style designs involving coaxial structures. He is an accomplished tool and die designer. He has packaged a wide variety of power supplies including both liquid and air-cooled units for commercial and military applications.
