2 4G system for internet access in coastal areas NeptuLink FAQs by MVG How does it work? Through its two antenna transmitter-receivers NeptuLink by MVG serves as a terminal that connects directly to distant 4G networks, or 3G or Edge where 4G is not available. It allows maritime vessel owners to provide wireless access to everyone on board and maintain an optimal connection regardless of humidity, sea salt and spray, or rolling and pitching motion. NeptuLink by MVG is suitable for use on board ships up to 20 nautical miles offshore. What is the communication cost while using NeptuLink by MVG? Current solutions, such as HF or VHF, are either limited in terms of data throughput (~10 kbits/s) or expensive (satellite communications). NeptuLink by MVG houses a SIM card, thus allows high-speed connectivity to 4G networks at the same cost of mobile phone data access. All you need is to ask your service provider for a second SIM card! How does it offer high speed Internet connection while at sea? The NeptuLink by MVG terminals connect to LTE networks (frequency bands 1, 3, 7, 8 and 20), thus allowing communications at over 100 Mbps for distances up to 20 nautical miles. The system is connected to a PC via an Ethernet cable, giving it direct access to a high-bandwidth IP network. The same Ethernet connection can also be connected to a Wi-Fi router, providing wireless Internet for everyone on board.
3 Company overview Since 2008, Microwave Vision Group has combined the technological expertise, product portfolios and infrastructures of four industry leaders: SATIMO, ORBIT/FR, AEMI and Rainford EMC Systems. With over 20 years experience in antenna design and development, MVG s products are reknowned worldwide for high quality and outstanding performance. Using the most advanced machining techniques coupled with an excellent research and development team, MVG is well equipped to deliver the highest form of communications solutions for a variety of applications. KEY FIGURES 12 countries / 23 sites Revenue of uros 56.7 million 18 years continual growth 10% of revenue invested in R&D Why NeptuLink by MVG? The expectation for instant communication regardless of location in today s world is now a priority. The maritime industry has long demanded a robust and cost effective solution to deliver high speed Internet to users whether on land, or at sea. What is NeptuLink by MVG? NeptuLink by MVG is a modem that provides a continuous high speed Internet connection (100 Mbps) up to 20 nautical miles offshore. It satisfies the communication needs of maritime travelers seeking an offshore, reliable Internet connection. NeptuLink by MVG has been designed specifically with the maritime environment in mind. With reinforced mechanics, it is tailored to withstand harsh marine conditions: high winds, corrosive elements, and the swells and lulls of the ocean. NeptuLink by MVG satisfies the communication needs of maritime travelers by providing a continuous high speed Internet connection (100 Mbps) up to 20 nautical miles offshore.
4 The need Until now, the maritime industry has been searching for a robust and cost effective solution to deliver high speed internet access to users while at sea. Previously, there were two options, either a solution where communication was extremely limited, or, one which was financially out of reach for the majority of travelers. MVG introduces their latest development, NeptuLink by MVG, a breakthrough for the maritime industry. Our solution The purpose of NeptuLink by MVG is to satisfy the broadband IP communication needs of users on board ships and various vessels in coastal areas (fishing boats, yachts, research vessels, wind farms, coast guard & sea rescue vessels, etc.) as well as in port areas (video transmission for crane operators, etc.). NeptuLink by MVG offers: 4G communication system for internet access in coastal areas Communication from ship to shore with a 20 nautical mile radius (approx 37 km) Optimal communication regardless of humidity, sea salt and spray, and/or rolling and pitching motion Suitability for all vessel types Award winning technology. NeptuLink by MVG has already been awarded two prizes for innovation from Prix Compétitivité mécénat Banexi Ventures et Grand Prix Images & Réseaux mécénat Bpifrance. 5 CASE STUDIES Trimaran connected to 4G during quest for the Record SNSM, as MVG supported skipper, Eric Defert The Record SNSM, a yacht race for skippers which is open to both professionals and amateurs. The race took place from June 19 to 23 from Saint-Nazaire (SN) to Sainte Marine (SM). Throughout the race, whether it was steering the boat, setting the sails or studying the weather. nothing was hidden as NeptuLink by MVG transmitted live videos from the trimaran during the 30 hour race. Eric Defert, Ocean Addict skipper, explains: "Microwave Vision Group is an innovative company. Partnering with our participation in the Record SNSM is a real vote of confidence for us. As skipper, I am delighted that the trimaran Ocean Addict is the first ship to feature high speed 4G Internet. Only a few professionals have had access to it so far, via a rather expensive satellite system. NeptuLink by MVG is perfect for anyone at sea and it will also enhance safety. This first navigation with the 4G system onboard at the SNSM record will be an interesting experience as we will be sharing live videos and information with the public, while remaining focused on the course, the sailing and the boat s performance in the race!" Streamlining ship-to-shore communication channels Measurement results (in the bay of Saint-Nazaire) A port service, Les Pilotes de la Loire, ensures navigation safety, maneuvering, and communication with port authorities. They had been in search of a reliable internet connection alternative with good value for money for many years and in March 2015 they approached MVG about NeptuLink by MVG to discuss the possibility of a test before purchasing. "It was very easy to make contact with MVG and our request immediately received a positive response. They loaned us one system and we conducted a test for an entire afternoon on board, with SIM cards from two different carriers. The test was successful, and we placed the order." says Thomas Arnaud from Les Pilotes de la Loire. The benefits are clear to see. Having Internet access on their pilot boat Couronnée IV makes their job much easier as they can access a list of the ships scheduled to leave the port via the continuously updated by a dockside traffic pilot. For the crew, who are sometimes off shore for weeks at a time, it provides the ability to run maintenance software and communicate with the crew on board through Wi-Fi calls and s. Real-time reporting while at sea Real-time reporting while at sea has traditionally been problematic and the communications systems available were limited. IFREMER (French Research Institute for the Exploitation of the Sea), which designs and implements tools for observation, experimentation, monitoring, and manages oceanographic databases, has often faced this problem. Olivier Soubigou, Engineer in the Ships and On-Board Systems Department at IFREMER explains the new capabilities with NeptuLink by MVG: "Since the spring, IFREMER has conducted several test campaigns with NeptuLink by MVG: first in the Bay of Toulon, then In Brittany, on the Thalia, between Ouistreham, Brest, Saint-Nazaire, Saint-Quay-Portrieux, and during coastal data collection campaigns from the English Channel to the Atlantic. The performance announced by MVG was highly attractive to us, and these various campaigns confirmed it. Real-time reporting while at sea is now possible." The connectivity is highly satisfactory in comparison to the systems already tested on the ships in our fleet. Olivier Soubigou, Engineer in the Ships and On-Board Systems Department at IFREMER
