SA Facsimile: (08) Using the HF-Tel Direct-Dial Radio-Telephone System The following is only a general guide to the basic operating procedures for your radio, please check with the radio instruction manual or your radio dealer before proceding to use HF-Tel Services. These instructions should be read in conjunction with FORM 30 HF-Tel Operating Instructions. VKS-737, HF-Tel & the Australian National 4WD Radio Network Inc. accept no resposibility for errors or omissions in this guide, nor for any problems that may occur from the incorrect use of these instructions. It is the subscriber s responsibilty to ensure that their radio is compliant with, and configured to work with, the HF-Tel system; VKS-737, HF-Tel & the Australian National 4WD Radio Network Inc. accept no responsibility for failure to be able to use the HF-Tel system due to non-compatible, incorrectly configured or failure of radio equipment. It is very important that you first perform a BEACON CALL to ensure that you have a workable frequency on which to make your telephone call. If you do not hear a Beacon revertive, or the revertive is very weak then try another frequency or another base station. In the following instructions xx denotes the first two digits of the Telcall Number of the relevant Base Station as listed above. 2 Subscribers with the following equipment use their normal VKS-737 selcall number to access the HF-Tel system: Barrett 250 & 550, Codan 8528, Jenal SC2 & SC350, Q-Mac HF90 Subscribers with the following equipment will be issued an unlisted 4 digit selcall number to access the HF-Tel system: Barrett 950 Subscribers with the following equipment will be issued an unlisted 6 digit selcall number to access the HF-Tel system: Barrett 2050, Codan 9323, Envoy & NGT, Icom F7000 & F8100 Barrett 250 Ensure the radio is fitted with an RDD format Telcall eprom. HF-Tel will NOT work with radios fitted with International, WA1 or WA2 format eproms or selcall only eproms. The buttons on the radio may be marked differently dependant upon the version of Firmware fitted to the radio. The example shown refers to Firmware Version 4 if in doubt contact your Barrett dealer for advice. 3 Barrett 2050 There are two versions of the Barrett 2050: Version 1 Your radio must be current to Version 1.78 or later. Ensure that HF-Tel channels are programmed to Selcall ID 2 (OEM format) Ensure that your 6 digit unlisted Telcall number is programmed into the radio. VKS-737 channels can be programmed with either Selcall ID 1 or 2 Suggested channel programming and channel labels are: Option 1. Channels 1 to 7 VKS-737 Ch. 1 to Ch. 7 with Selcall ID 2 (OEM format) VKS-737 and HF-Tel calls are made on the same channels. Option 2. Channels 1 to 7 VKS737 Ch. 1 to Ch. 7 with Selcall ID 1 (International format). Channels 11 to 17 HF-Tel Ch. 1 to Ch. 7 with Selcall ID 2 (OEM format). HF-Tel calls can only be made on Channels 11 to 17. Version 2 This version was released in May Ensure that your VKS-737 Selcall number is programmed as Default OEM 1 Ensure that your unlisted HF-Tel Telcall number is programmed as Default OEM 2 Suggested channel programming and channel labels are: Channels 1 to 7 VKS-737 Ch. 1 to Ch. 7 with Default OEM 1 / OEM 2 Selcall as above VKS-737 and HF-Tel calls are made on the same channels. Version 1 and Version 2 using Default Selcall / Telcall ID s set up as above. Ensure that Selcall is set for 6 digit only not 4 digit compatable. Ensure that Telcall is set for Codan format not RDD format. 5 Codan Envoy fitted with Firmware Version 1.08 Firmware and VKS-737 v108.0 Profile The following Envoy instructions are only applicable for radios with Firmware Version 1.08 and VKS-737 v108.0 Profile; for any other profiles contact the Codan dealer who programmed the radio for instructions on how to make HF-Tel calls. The VKS-737 Radio Network cannot offer any assistance to subscribers with Envoy radios that are not fitted with Firmware Version 1.08 and VKS-737 v108.0 Profile. Ensure that normal 4 digit Selcall is programmed into VKS-737 Network and 6 digit unlisted Telcall self ID number is programmed into HF-Tel Network of radio profile. Option 1. Commence procedure with the radio scanning. or scroll to choose number from call log Scroll to choose Base Station from list to place the call. When a telephone call is completed: Option 1. Call has been terminated by telephone subscriber. Press Scan Press Close Option 2. Call has NOT been terminated by telephone subscriber. Press Scan Press Hangup Option 2. Commence procedure with the radio set on the Channel you wish to make the call or scroll to choose number from call log Scroll to choose Base Station from list to place the call. When a telephone call is completed: Option 1. Call has been terminated by telephone subscriber. Press Scan Press Close Option 2. Call has NOT been terminated by telephone subscriber. 6 Codan NGT Aust Recreation Version 5.37 (VKS-737 & HF-Tel) Profile The following NGT instructions are only applicable for Aust Recreation Version 5.37, 5.38 & 5.39 (VKS-737 & HF-Tel) Profiles; for any other profiles contact the Codan dealer who programmed the radio for instructions on how to make HF- Tel calls. The VKS-737 Radio Network cannot offer any assistance to subscribers with NGT radios that are not fitted with Aust Recreation Version 5.37, 5.38 & 5.39 (VKS-737 & HF-Tel) Profiles. Ensure that normal 4 digit Selcall is programmed into VKS-737 Network and 6 digit unlisted Telcall self ID number is programmed into HF-Tel Network of radio profile. Note: This Telcall procedure is only valid for transceivers profiled with Aust Recreation Version 5.37 and Grouping is enabled. Scroll to the required Base Station Press to place the call. Press On Hook (Scan) you are prompted with Send Hangup? Press to send Hangup After hangup is sent you are prompted with Hangup Repeat? Press to repeat or Press X to resume scanning Due to a firmware limit of 10 telephone networks on the NGT it is NOT possible to make HF-Tel calls through Adelaide 2, Alice Springs 2, Cairns 2, Carnarvon, Charleville, Charters Towers 2, Meekatharra, Mount Isa, & Port Hedland bases using Aust Recreation Version 5.37 Profile. Codan NGT Aust Recreation Version 5.38 (VKS-737 & HF-Tel) Profile Ensure that normal 4 digit Selcall is programmed into VKS-737 &! Default Networks and 6 digit unlisted Telcall self ID number is programmed into HF-Tel Network of radio profile. Note: This Telcall procedure is only valid for transceivers profiled with Aust Recreation Version 5.38 and Grouping is enabled. Display will show Phone link addr? to place the call. Press On Hook (Scan) you are prompted with Send Hangup? Press to send Hangup After hangup is sent you are prompted with Hangup Repeat? Press to repeat or Press X to resume scanning Aust Recreation Version 5.38 Profile is not restricted to 10 telephone networks as the base station address is manually entered using similar to all other makes and models of radio. 7 Codan NGT Aust Recreation Version 5.39 (VKS-737 & HF-Tel) Profile Ensure that normal 4 digit Selcall is programmed into VKS-737 &! Default Networks and 6 digit unlisted Telcall self ID number is programmed into HF-Tel Network of radio profile. Note: This Telcall procedure is only valid for transceivers profiled with Aust Recreation Version 5.39 and Grouping is enabled. Display will show Phone link addr? Scroll to either of the following options: 1. One of the listed Primary HF-Tel Bases i.e Adelaide, Cairns etc. 2. Telcall No. If Option 1 to place the call. If Option 2 to place the call. Press On Hook (Scan) you are prompted with Send Hangup? Press to send Hangup After hangup is sent you are prompted with Hangup Repeat? Press to repeat or Press X to resume scanning Aust Recreation Version 5.39 Profile is not restricted to 10 telephone networks as the base station address can be manually entered using similar to all other makes and models of radio or the choice can be made to use one of the nine primary HF-Tel Base presets..
