INSTALLATION The OEM Wireless Dialler is extremely easy to install and requires no tools. The normal location for the OEM Wireless Dialler is at the first telephone installed in the premises. This ensures that the OEM Wireless Dialler has priority if it needs to send a message to the Control Centre. The local telephone sits beside the OEM Wireless Dialler to make it as unobtrusive as possible. Another important aspect of the installation is the location of the OEM Wireless Dialler to give optimum radio coverage. To give the best all round coverage it is best to have the OEM Wireless Dialler installed centrally in the premises. This may not always be possible due to the location of the telephone and Mains Power but it must still be a consideration. Once a suitable location is found the installation can take place. INSTALLATION EXAMPLE (This example is based on the common Telstra T200 series telephone) 1. Select the best location, taking into consideration the customers requirements and the above criteria. 2. Unplug the modular telephone plug on the T200 Telephone and plug it into the modular Telephone Line marked LINE on the OEM Wireless Dialler (see diagram to OEM Wireless Dialler FEATURES on Page 2). 3. Using the supplied jumper lead with a modular telephone plug on each end. Plug one end into the socket on the OEM Wireless Dialler marked PHONE and the other end into the T200 Telephone marked LINE (see diagram OEM Wireless Dialler FEATURES on Page 2). 4. Lift the Handset on the Telephone to check that dial tone is present. This completes the Telephone Wiring process. 5. Now connect the Battery (8.4 Volt Ni-Mh) and the Plug Pack to the OEM Wireless Dialler and turn the Mains ON (see diagram OEM Wireless Dialler FEATURES on Page 2). 6. OEM Wireless Dialler is now in Program Mode. Program Mode is indicated by the Radio Link Light Double Flashing (refer to Manual Programming on Page 5). 7. When programming has been completed, test the OEM Wireless Dialler back to the Control Centre. NB: It may be worth while to pre-program the OEM Wireless Dialler prior to arriving at the Customers premises to ensure a smooth installation takes place. 9 7. INDICATORS The following indicator lights are provided on the OEM Wireless Dialler: Mains On Battery Low Radio Link Line Fault (Green) (Red) (Red) (Red) Indicator lights do not remain permanently ON under Mains Fail to conserve the Battery, consequently flashing indicators are used. A Light can be ON, OFF, or FLASHING. Two different flash mode are used to denote different conditions FLASH or DOUBLE-FLASH. 7.1 Line Fault (Light FLASHES or DOUBLE FLASHES) Line Fail (light FLASHES) This occurs when disconnection of the telephone line is detected. This condition is tested for, every 2 minutes; clearing of this condition will also be tested for every 2 minutes. WARNING BEEPS THE OEM Wireless Dialler WILL BEEP FOR 30 SECONDS AFTER DETECTION OF A CONTINUOUS LINE LOSS CONDITION AND THEN EVERY 12 HOURS UNTIL RECTIFIED Dialler Fail (light DOUBLE-FLASHES) This occurs when the OEM Wireless Dialler has attempted to send a message and failed. This condition is tested for at every dial-out attempt. This condition will clear with a successful subsequent dial-out. WARNING BEEPS THE OEM Wireless Dialler WILL BEEP FOR 30 SECONDS AFTER DIALLER FAILED TO SEND A MESSAGE AND THEN EVERY 12 HOURS UNTIL RECTIFIED. 7.2 Radio Link (Light FLASH) The Radio Link light is normally OFF and will FLASH after a valid radio message is received. 7.3 Battery Low (Light ON, FLASHES or DOUBLE-FLASHES) The Battery Low light is normally OFF and will turn ON or FLASHES to indicate the following conditions. Battery Missing (light ON) - If this condition persists after 60 seconds, the OEM Wireless Dialler will report this to the Control Centre. A restore is reported when the Battery has been missing for more than 60 seconds and then a Battery is fitted. Battery Low (light FLASHES) - Alarms if the Battery has discharged below approximately 25% capacity. The OEM Wireless Dialler will report this to the Control Centre. A restore is reported when the Battery has recharged to approximately 75% capacity. OEM Wireless Dialler Installation Manual v2.3.doc 8
10 Battery Capacity Fail (light DOUBLE-FLASHES) - Alarms if the Battery cannot be properly recharged or cannot properly hold a charge. The OEM Wireless Dialler will report this to the Control Centre. A restore is reported when the Battery has been replaced. WARNING BEEPS THE OEM Wireless Dialler WILL BEEP IMMEDIATELY FOR 30 SECONDS UPON DETECTING ANY BATTERY LOW CONDITIONS AND AFTER THAT EVERY 24 HOURS UNTIL RECTIFIED. A Battery Missing or Battery Capacity Fail condition requires Battery replacement. These conditions can be distinguished from a Battery Low condition by the absence of an associated Mains Fail condition. Dynamic Battery tests (ie. Battery Voltage measured with a typical load briefly applied) are performed periodically to determine the Battery s charge level and capacity. A test for a Battery Missing is performed every few seconds. NB: When replacing the Battery, Mains should be left ON or else queued alarms and timers will be reset. 7.4 Mains On (Light FLASHES) Upon detecting a Mains Failure, the Mains On light FLASHES until Mains Power is restored. If the Mains Failure persists for more than 1 hour, a Mains Fail Alarm is reported to the Control Centre at a random time within the next hour. When the Mains Failure has ceased, a Mains Fail Restore is reported to the Control Centre (only if a Mains Fail had been previously reported). WARNING BEEPS - THE OEM Wireless Dialler WILL BEEP FOR 30 SECONDS AFTER ONE HOUR OF CONTINUOUS MAINS FAILURE AND CEASE UNTIL MAINS POWER IS RESTORED. System timing is derived from 50/60 Hz on the Mains. During Mains Failure, the OEM Wireless Dialler derives its timing from the crystal oscillator. Mains Failure and restore is reported over a 1 hour period to minimise Control Centre traffic when whole suburbs are blacked out. 8. ALARM REPORTING The OEM Wireless Dialler is connected to the telephone line such that when it attempts to send a message to the Control Centre, it unconditionally seizes the line and temporarily disconnects any other equipment sharing the line. The received dial tone is checked before the OEM Wireless Dialler dials out. However, when no dial tone has been received then the tone Link will be tested to see what type of tone has been selected. Phone Number 1 and 2 - Reports are usually sent on Phone Number 1 but if unsuccessful in connecting, it will dial Phone Number 2. The OEM Wireless Dialler alternates between each phone number approximately 5 times. When the OEM Wireless Dialler is not sending a message, other equipment will be able to operate normally. OEM Wireless Dialler Installation Manual v2.3.doc 9
11 Queuing Messages - The OEM Wireless Dialler is capable of simultaneously receiving radio messages and forwarding messages to the Control Centre, queuing messages if required up to a limit of 18 messages. If the OEM Wireless Dialler is unable to send a message due to a line fault, it queues the message and sends it when the fault condition is cleared. If the alarm queue overflows, the oldest messages shall be discarded. If an alarm is received during an Up/Download session, the message will be queued until the session is completed. 8.1 Radio Key Pendant Alarms The programmed Radio Key Pendants transmit alarms to the OEM Wireless Dialler which reports the alarms to the Control Centre. Possible Radio Key Pendant alarms are: 1. PANIC - Any Radio Key Pendant may send a Panic alarm (In this case a 130 Contact ID alarm) by pressing the PANIC Button (or the ON Button on a 3 Button Key Pendant) upon which the OEM Wireless Dialler will start beeping for 15 seconds. If fitted with a 3 Button Key (ON, OFF & PANIC), the Panic alarm can be aborted (within 15 seconds pre-alarm warning) by pressing the OFF Button or Restores any outstanding Alarm on that particular Channel. The Cancel Button on the unit will Restore all outstanding Alarms on all Channels. 2. Battery Low - Any Radio Key Pendant may transmit a Battery Low alarm, and when replaced, send a Restore. The OEM Wireless Dialler reports both of these to the Control Centre. 8.2 Contact ID Reporting The OEM Wireless Dialler uses the Contact ID protocol with the exception of Panic reporting on the 130 alarm (special application). This reporting is used to transmit alarms from a subscriber s site to a Control Centre via the telephone. The transmission is done using DTMF tones. 14 digits are sent to report an alarm. The format is as follows: SSSS 18 Q XYZ GG CCC E SSSS 4 digit subscriber ID 18 Uniquely identifies this format as Contact ID Q Event qualifier: (1 = New Alarm and 3 = Restore) XYZ Event code, see table below GG Group Code. 12 9. UP/DOWNLOAD Client Account Number, Phone Number 1 & 2, Test Call Time and First Test Call Time, Silent or Audible Beeper and Key ID can be changed using Upload and Download. This function allows a connection to be made to the OEM Wireless Dialler over the telephone line, initiated from the remote end using a suitable PC, modem and the UpDownload Software. The OEM Wireless Dialler uses an answering technique called Fax defeat. Fax defeat is done by calling the OEM Wireless Dialler, hanging up and calling back. The OEM Wireless Dialler will answer the phone as soon as the call back ring is detected. If a session is not established within 30 seconds, the OEM Wireless Dialler will hang-up. Once a session is established, the OEM Wireless Dialler will unconditionally hang-up after 5 minutes if hang-up is not requested sooner by the remote end. 9.1 Remote Programming Procedures 1. Control Centre - Control Centre calls Customer to inform them that a change is required and instructs Customer on procedure. Control Centre then uses UpDownload Software to remotely program the OEM Wireless Dialler via a modem. 2. Customer - The telephone rings at customer site and the OEM Wireless Dialler auto answers telephone. 3. When Remote Programming is complete, the OEM Wireless Dialler hangs up and resumes normal operation. 9.2 Data Format The programmable data is to be Uploaded or Downloaded in the following format. Byte number 1 is sent/received first; the least-significant bit of each byte is sent/received first.
