The PA-witch family supports a range of power requirements in either forward or fl yback topologies and offers a variety of package options to maximize design fl exibility. 4 PA-witch in PoE Applications Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a method whereby power is transmitted to Ethernet-connected equipment (VoIP telephones, WAN transmitters, security cameras) from the central switch. Power Integrations has developed circuits for highly cost-effective IEE80.af compliant power supplies. Tested by the University of New Hampshire s Interoperability onsortium (UNH-IO), PI solutions have been shown to work with all available Power ourcing Equipment (PE). The results of the UNH-IO testing are shown on the PI website. Operation: PoE Powered evice (P) fulfi lls three functions to work in conjunction with the sending end PE: detection, classifi cation and undervoltage lockout. etection Phase: The PE checks the P to determine if it is PoE-enabled. uring the detection phase, the PE applies a voltage ramp to the P and looks for a characteristic impedance from the load ( kω). If the signature impedance is detected, the PE moves on to the classifi cation phase. The signature identifi cation voltage is a ramp voltage between. V and. A.9 kω resistor provides the correct signature impedance for detection. lassification Phase: The PE continues to ramp the voltage to the P. Between. V and 0. V, the P must draw a specifi ed current to identify the device class. The classifi cation current describes the amount of power the P will require during normal operation.
