Training Service Self-Study Programme 519 The infotainment system of the Golf 2013, 2 e part Design and function
Today, consumers want to access all the information available on the Internet and at any time, so also from their vehicle. This is why it is necessary to create in-vehicle multiplexing structures increasingly powerful and complex. On board the vehicle, functions and a wide variety of functional groups are associated with new components and systems such as embedded Wi-Fi network or new mobile services online. Since it is necessary to manage and transmit more information, high-performance data transmission means are a fundamental requirement. It is therefore not surprising that, for certain components of the modular infotainment platform (MIB) Consumers also want the character of the vehicle is adapted to the driver. This is why driving profiles marketed with the Golf 2013 have been constantly developed and improved. This results in the multiplexing increasingly complex different vehicle systems. The future of infotainment remains exciting. This brochure shows, as examples, the recent developments made in 2013 and the Golf GTI / GTD s519_075 This Self-Study Programme presents the design and operation of innovations Recent techniques! Its content is not updated. For current instructions control, adjustment and repair, please refer to the documentation of Customer Service. Warning Note 2

Introduction What's up? The MOST150 data bus MOST stands for "Media Oriented Systems Transport" which is a standard for multiplexing multimedia systems and infotainment in the automotive industry. MOST is a protocol for rapid transmission of multimedia data, that is to say, image, video and audio. The universal basic principle of the protocol allows the integration of simple and robust devices. For transmitting data on the MOST data bus is often used in an optical fiber cable. The great advantage of technology s519_059 MOST is the standardization of interfaces, that is to say the transmitting and receiving units (Fiber Optical Transmitter - FOT). These interfaces enable the integration of multimedia devices the most diverse in the ring network structure. Compared to the previous model MOST25, the new MOST150 data bus is distinguished by bandwidth transmission of data significantly higher. With 3072 bits per transmission unit (frame) bandwidth has increased six-fold compared to MOST25. Further information on the data bus MOST150 see from page 6. The embedded Wi-Fi network Wi-Fi is a set of wireless communication protocols that describe the characteristics of a wireless local area network ( "Wireless Local Area Network or WLAN"). This wireless LAN, various devices such as a Smartphone, a handheld computer, a tablet or a laptop can connect to exchange data or to obtain via this network secure Internet access. This means a vehicle equipped with an onboard Wi-Fi provides an access point (hot spot) to own this vehicle. Currently, the availability of such an access point is linked to the mobile telephone interface "Premium". s519_060 Further information on the data bus MOST150 see from page 15. 4
mobile interfaces "Comfort" and "Premium" An essential component in the realization of mobile interfaces, is the new storage interface with mobile phone for R265 (connection box) in the center console. This is part of the mobile phone interface "Comfort". The connection box offers, among others, the ability to connect a smartphone to the s519_061 vehicle antenna system without any physical connection. The mobile interface "Premium" allows rsap connection. For more information about this, see from page 12. The premium audio system "DYNAUDIO Excite" The adaptation of premium audio system "DYNAUDIO Excite" to the specific conditions of a motor vehicle has been further optimized. A particularly sophisticated feature is the new subwoofer ( "subwoofer") which is mounted in the spare wheel well and plays an essential role in the tone of the audio system. For more information on the high-end audio system "DYNAUDIO Excite", see from page 20. s519_062 Selecting the driving profile For the Golf GTI / GTD 2013, the selection of the driving profile has been adapted to the specific character of the vehicles. The different driving profiles allow eg to adapt to the driving situation the volume of the noise actuator borne R214 connected in series. For the comparison of driving profiles, see from page 18. s519_058 5
Concept of multiplexing The MOST150 data bus On the Golf GTI / GTD 2013 Volkswagen adopts MOST150 optical data bus. The MOST150 is a new version developed from the MOST25. Data bus MOST150 electronic calculator Information 1 J794 (optional) R78 processor computer DSP sound field J525 TV tuner s519_041 MOST stands for "Media Oriented Systems Transport". It is a serial bus system which transmits audio and video signals and voice signals and At the launch of this model, the MOST data bus mounted on the Golf 2013 has the following characteristics: data, preferably using a fiber optic cable. - data transmission rate 150 Mbit / s (3072 bits per transmission unit) The MOST network has a ring structure that can include up to 64 - ring topology with up to three correspondents MOST devices. - Cyclic data transmission, event-controlled - High level of security against the risk of electromagnetic interference On the bus MOST150 optical data, the exchange of data between connected devices takes place in digital form. The transmission of data using light waves can reach significantly higher speeds. Unlike radio waves, optical waves are of very short length. They generate themselves any stray electromagnetic wave and are insensitive to external electromagnetic interference. The electronic control unit 1 J794 Information is responsible for system management and diagnosis of MOST150 data bus. For more information on diagnosis, eg. diagnosis cut the ring network, see Self-Study Programme 473 "Infotainment Touareg 2011". 6

Concept of multiplexing MOST data transmission protocol Data to be transmitted are divided into packets called frames. On the bus MOST150 data, each frame has a length of 3072 bits (on the MOST25 = 512 bits). The purely digital useful data length of 3040 bits (on the MOST25 = 480 bits). This means that the MOST150 transmit much more information per data packet. The total length of a frame is composed as follows: - A data field for administration - A data field for control data - Two data fields The maximum amount of storable data in the two data fields is limited by the fixed distribution. Data is transmitted via three channels (control channel, channel synchronous and asynchronous channel): - control data for control channel - synchronous channel for transmitting audio and video data (synchronous transmission in real time, without intermediate storage) - asynchronous channel for quite large data volume, eg. audio file metadata (Asynchronous transmission, event, with the possibility of intermediate storage) 1 frame = 3072 bits 64 bit 32-bit 2976 bits data Data field for synchronous (Synchronous channel) data Data field for asynchronous (Asynchronous channel) Field data to control data data field for administration (Control channel) s519_042 8
The composition of the fiber optic cables The optical fiber cable is composed of several layers: - The colored outer sheath allows the identification and provides mechanical and thermal protection. - The inner shell protects the heart against external light radiation. - The optical fluoropolymer sheath, low index of refraction of light surrounds the heart. This layer a few microns thick confined optical waves in the heart by reflecting light from the edges toward the heart of the center to avoid the light falloff at the edges of the heart. - The heart is the core part of the fiber optic cable. It is composed of Plexiglas specially conditioned. The heart transmits light received virtually no losses. eg outer sheath. orange always black inner sleeve front side Heart cladding s519_043 For flawless data transmission, the front face of the fiber optic cable should have a cut at right angles, smooth and clean. Dirt or scratches on the face can cause disruptions and losses in the data transmission and reduce the cable transmission capacity of optical fiber. 9
Concept of multiplexing The antenna system In the arrangement of the antenna system, there are two fundamentally different variants: - The antenna system for mobile interface "Comfort" with signal amplifier 2-way mobile phone J984 and storage interface with mobile phone for R265 (connection box) - The antenna system for the "Premium" telephony interface with direct connection to the GSM antenna on the R205 electronic computer information J794 1 The systems are represented the maximum equipment variant proposed for the European market. The design of the antenna system can vary from one market to another, functions specific national versions. 16 phone prep packages The embedded Wi-Fi network Wi-Fi is a set of wireless communication protocols that describe the characteristics of a wireless local area network ( "Wireless Local Area Network or WLAN") constituting an access point (or hotspot) for the exchange of data. So far, the media devices and phones can be connected wirelessly as through the Bluetooth interface of the infotainment system. Through the onboard Wi-Fi access point, it is now possible to connect eg. tablets or laptops on the Internet via the mobile interface "Premium". The system then uses Integrated UMTS interface into the phone module. Data transmission is via the GSM antenna R205 or by a compatible mobile phone connected via Bluetooth rsap or by a SIM card for connecting to the Internet, inserted into the SIM card slot of the electronic calculator of 1 information J794. For data transmission, the system uses the UMTS 3G standard. It is then of the UMTS standard for the third generation with which the data transmission rate can reach up to 42 Mbit / s. On this access point can be used simultaneously 8 devices at maximum. Use the access point by unauthorized persons is limited by the low range of this access point outside the vehicle as well as the SSID (Service Set Identifier). This code is the name and port of the board Wi-Fi and it also allows access to the network after entering a password. The access point is built into the phone module and serves as an interface for wireless communication devices, the Wi-Fi network. Up to 42 Mbit / s s519_057 16
WiFi IEEE b and g SSID Service Set Identifier (Also: network name) The SSID is the name assigned to a wireless network based on the IEEE standard. The SSID can be up to 32 characters. It is configured by the access point for a wireless network (Wi-Fi) and must be entered on each of the devices that need to access it. The sequence of characters, unencrypted, is added at the head of each of the data packets. SSID to seven characters s519_065 When a device requests access to a WiFi network, all access points that are within range emit their SSID. This gives a list from which you can choose the wireless network on which you want to connect. Encryption WPA and WPA2 WPA stands for Wi-Fi Protected Access ( "Protected Access") which defines a method of encryption for wireless networks. WPA2 is more secure than WPA, insofar as it also uses the password set by the central computer. The user can still use the conventional method WPA. s519_066 What does IEEE ? IEEE defines an IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) for communication over wireless networks. The standard is continuously developed and its value increases with each new version. At present, the family of has 12 standards that differ mainly bandwidths, radio frequencies and data transmission speeds. In its current configuration, MIB applies the b and g standards, that is to say, it can communicate with all devices compatible with one of these two standards. The data transmission rate of b is 11 Mbit / s over a frequency band 2.4 GHz. The data transmission rate of g is 54 Mbit / s over a frequency band 2.4 GHz. 17
driving profiles Selecting the driving profile on the Golf 2013 The driving profiles "Comfort", "Normal", "Sport", "Eco" and "Individual" is available on the Golf 2013, the Golf SW 2013 and the Golf GTI / GTD 2013, to the extent that these vehicles have selecting the driving profile optional. Since the adoption of the modular transverse engine platform (MQB) on the Golf GTI / GTD 2013, new features and new systems were integrated into the selection of the driving profile. This is for example the internal and external sound control and the regulation of front differential lock, which are explained in this chapter. 19 Driving profiles of the Golf GTI / GTD 2013 For driving profiles of the Golf GTI / GTD 2013, in addition to configuring profiles specific to the vehicle, there are primarily three characteristics: - Regulation of front differential lock (VAQ) - The noise actuator borne R214 - The actuator 1 of R257 engine sound generator (optional and only for GTD) s519_051 - s519_055 Regulation of front differential lock (VAQ) With the Golf GTI "Performance" is a new feature appeared on the running gear: the front differential lock. Ensuring electronically controlled differential lock computer before J647 distributes the drive torque depending on the driving situation, and actively involved in the turns to avoid understeer. It is possible to act on the regulation characteristics of the differential lock before selecting the driving profile "Normal" or "Sport". The noise actuator borne R214 One of the new components fitted to the Golf GTI / GTD 2013 J869 is borne noise calculator. It controls the actuator borne noise R214 excites the windshield, by vibrations, and thus generates an artificial engine noise in the cabin. The steering actuator regulates the intensity of the vibrations generated depending on the speed and takes into account the respectively selected driving profile. The actuator 1 generator engine noises R257 The installation of active exhaust, developed specifically for the Golf GTD 2013, is part of the Sport pack and optional Audio. The J943 engine sound generator computer is connected to the CAN data bus Engine. 23 tone characteristics An impressive feature of the DYNAUDIO sound system is its range of tone settings ( "soundsettings"). The user can vary the sound environment at will. With digital signal processing capabilities, this innovation of DYNAUDIO facility has also been integrated into the audio system developed for the Golf The driver of a Golf has five specific tone controls that define different sound characteristics: - Authentic - Soft - Dynamic - Speech - Individual Authentic This setting ensures the faithful reproduction of music with the original tone, without any modification. s519_029 Soft This tone characteristic slightly reduces the bass and treble. s519_030 Dynamic This tone characteristic is characterized by deep bass and treble attenuation. s519_031 23
audio system Speech This boosts the midrange for better reproduction of speech. s519_032 Individual The displayed cursors allow individual control of bass, middle and treble and bass of the intensity of the subwoofer. s519_033 Through the tone control menu "Settings Tone", the user accesses the possibilities of setting sound characteristics, spatial sound reproduction as well as adjusting the subwoofer. s519_034 24
spatial sound reproduction Sound reproduction according seat positions The calculator DSP surround sound processor J525 sets the spatial sound reproduction. This is significantly more sophisticated than the simple adjustments to the balance and fader. It does not only modulate the various sound output levels of each speaker. By performing a delay corresponding channels and adapting in more frequencies, the system adjusts the dynamic sound so that the sound reproduction is centered on the seat position or that its center may be individually determined using the characteristic tone "Individual". The basic adaptation takes place depending on the specific form of the passenger and the vehicle dimensions. s519_035 s519_036 s519_037 s519_038 individual setting Individual adjustment of the fader can be performed using the reticle or the arrow keys. s519_039 25
Service Diagnosis and interventions MOST150 data bus The procedure for the ring network failure diagnosis corresponds to a large extent, control plan Touareg For the Golf 2013, a modified tool, optical spare computer VAS 6778 is however necessary because transmitting and receiving units faster. ring network failure diagnosis with the optical spare computer VAS 6778 The optical computer spare VAS 6778 allows monitoring and troubleshooting of optical fiber cables (defective calculators location or defective portions of a fiber optic cable). s519_070 Repair Kit for optical fibers VAS 6223B Repair Kit for optical fibers VAS 6223B enables the repair of cables with integrated optical fibers infotainment system. Since in the case of repair cables new optical fibers must be laid next to the vehicle wiring harness, this results in a difference in length compared to the original wiring harness. To ensure perfect operation, it is necessary that the optical fiber cable is installed with well-defined radii. This is why a special adaptation of the length is essential. s519_071 The cutting pliers VAS 6228 This clamp is provided for the clean cutting of cables plastic sheath or rubber. It is used far on the Touareg in the Repair Group 43 "Running gear" for work on the air suspension. s519_072 26
Update navigation data Path to follow The update navigation data requires an SD card with a capacity of at least 32GB for the "Discover Pro" and an SD-ADC card with a capacity of at least 8GB for "Discover Media". Volkswagen recommends using SDHC Class 10 for "Discover Pro" and a special SD-CDA 8GB card for the "Discover Media". This card can be supplied by the Volkswagen partner. The volume of navigation data can reach more than 17 GB for the "Discover Pro" and more than 4 GB for the "Discover Media". Depending on the country or the importer, different Internet addresses are available for downloading navigation data: areas for the German market and for other markets worldwide. These pages contain, in the language concerned, detailed information for data download and installation. For the installation of the navigation data, follow the instructions in the attached to the vehicle operating instructions. During the copying process the data, the ignition must be; the navigation function is unavailable. Due to the large volume of data and depending on the SD card used, the process can last up to 4 hours. This is why it is necessary to first check if the battery voltage is sufficient to ensure complete update. If necessary, connect a suitable charger to the vehicle. 27
