3 Introduction Safety. Observe safe practices when handling your rifle and follow the manufacturer s safety instructions when doing so. Take extra care when working on your rifle. Ensure that the rifle has the safety catch is set to safe and is absolutely not loaded with ammunition and the area is safe. Initially the DSW may cause distractions to normal shooting routine. Be aware of this until you are totally familiar with its operation whilst fitted to your rifle. Page 3

9 DSW Technology Overview The Rowan Engineering Digital Side Wheel is designed to collate and process main shooting parameters in order that the shooter can access these in an intuitive and clear format during competition shooting or out in the field. The DSW measures and records the following parameters. Focus wheel positing and set range. Compass heading of the shot taken. Cant angle, elevation angle. Temperature. Movement of the rifle in 3 axis. The DSW has an inbuilt Bluetooth interface such that connection to a PC / tablet or phone is easily accomplished. The Bluetooth function enables the facility to backup and restore the DSW settings and also update the firmware when new versions become available ensuring the shooter can use the latest firmware. 10 Application: The DSW is designed solely for use with telescopic sights fitted to rifles. See warranty for further information. Fitting DSW to a telescopic sight / rifle. Safety. It is the users responsibility to ensure that their own safety and that of any other person that may be in a proximity that could be affected. Page 10

11 Battery Installation. CAUTION RISK OF EXPLOSION IF BATTERY IS REPLACED BY AN INCORRECT TYPE. The DSW is designed to be powered by a CR123 CR123A 3v lithium battery. We recommend the use of Duracell 3v Ultra lithium or Panasonic 3v photo lithium batteries only. Other types may be suitable but the DSW has only been tested and certified for use with the above batteries. DO NOT use any other type of battery. Installation of the battery is accomplished by unscrewing the rear battery cap anticlockwise and inserting the battery + positive end first. Page 11

12 The DSW is reverse polarity protected in the event a battery is inserted inadvertently the wrong way, but damage caused by incorrect battery installation is not covered by the warrantee. Battery Replacement. The DSW Info>Status screen shows the approximate battery capacity remaining providing parameter #27 is set to the correct type. It is recommended to exchange an exhausted battery with a fresh battery when Page 12

13 the capacity display shows less than 20% remaining. Remove the exhausted battery by unscrewing the battery cap anticlockwise and place the cap safely to the side. Remove the old battery and insert the new battery + positive end first, refit the cap ensuring that the o-ring seal is in place. Disposal of the exhausted battery must be undertaken ensuring that local regulations are adhered to. The battery must be kept separate from normal household waste. I.e. Dispose at a local recycling centre. We recommend that battery fitted to the DSW and also spare batteries that may be needed during the course of a shoot are checked prior to starting. We have occasionally found an unserviceable battery in new unopened packaging! Page 13

14 Caution: The DSW is designed to be powered by a CR123 / CR123A 3v lithium battery only. We recommend the use of Duracell 3v Ultra lithium or Panasonic 3v photo lithium batteries only. For safety, the DSW is fitted with a self resetting polymer fuse. This fuse will automatically open in the event of abnormal current flow and reset automatically. If you suspect that this is occurring, we recommend that you return your DSW to us for servicing. If the DSW is not to be used for an extended period remove the battery from the battery compartment. 15 Installation. Fitting the wheel. The wheel comes fitted with 5 jaws. They may be moved in to different configurations to match the shape and number of notched in the parallax turret. It is possible to use :- 5 jaws spaced at 72 degrees. 4 jaws spaced at 90 degrees. 3 jaws spaced at 120 degrees. To change the jaw positions first remove the 8 x cap head screws lift off the retaining ring. Set the desired number and position of the jaws to best suit the PA turret. Usually the jaws will be positioned to fit in to the grooves of the turret. Note the 2 indents in the retaining ring and wheel body for alignment. Start with a jaw in the detent position and then place subsequent jaws spaced as required. Re position the grub screws in the retaining ring to match the jaw positions. Page 15

16 Re assemble the ring over the jaws and on to the wheel using the 8 x M3 cap head screws. Place the wheel on to the PA turret and gently tighten the grub screws evenly to centre the wheel in the required position. Adjust the wheel so it runs true. Check that the join in the sensor track on the inside rim of the wheel does not pass the pickup sensor when the parallax knob is turned through its full motion. 17 Fitting The Sensor Mounting bracket. Fit the sensor pick up lead assembly and stainless steel mounting in to the recessed side of the bracket. Fit the M5 nut, and finger tighten as the position of the sensor and bracket will have to be adjusted further. Page 17

18 Attach the sensor bracket to the scope tube and position the sensor so it is facing the sensor track inside the wheel with an initial gap of about 1.0mm. The gap between the sensor and track will be 0.25 to 0.5mm when finally fitted with the wheel running true. It is important that the wheel does not touch the sensor track over the full movement of the wheel. See below for setting the correct position of the sensor. Page 18

20 Fit the DSW mounting bracket to the forward section of the scope tube. Set the DSW with the housing level and gently tighten the DSW mounting bracket in position. Connect the sensor cable to the socket on the rear face of the DSW housing. The connector and socket are 'bump polarised' Ensure the alignment of the plug and socket are correct with the lead pointing to approximately the 1 o clock position. DO NOT FORCE the plug in to the socket. Gently tighten the connector locking ring. Page 20

21 Checking the sensor alignment. Power on the DSW. 2 LEDs are fitted to the sensor to indicate the distance the sensor is from the track. The optimum position is indicated when only the Red LED is on. Red & Green on = gap too far. Red on, Flashing Green, = maximum gap. Red LED on, Green off = optimum gap. Red flashing, Green off = minimum gap. Red and Green off = gap too close. Adjust the clamping jaws on the wheel and use the LED s as a guide to get the wheel running true. Page 21

22 Operation. Key pad operation. The 4 buttons on the front face of the DSW allow all operation and settings to be carried out. In addition to the buttons, movement of the sidewheel also acts as an input device. A 'short press' of the up or down arrow moves the cursor up / down one line and steps through the menu options on screen. To enter a sub menu 'short press' the centre 'menu' button. Typically when in a bottom level menu, it has input options to change values with in the menu. Pressing and holding the down arrow button for approximately 1 second (long press) enables 'edit mode' and then by rotating the sidewheel the value can be changed. Edit mode is indicated by the cursor flashing. 'Long press' the down arrow again stores any changes made and exits edit mode. A 'long press' on the menu button exits the current menu. Page 22

23 Powering on the DSW. Press the power button in the top centre of the DSW for about 0.5 sec. A start up screen is displayed with an instruction to set the sidewheel to the zero position. It is ESSENTIAL the sidewheel is rotated to its closest focus point and set against the end stop before continuing. Once the wheel has been turned to the zero position press the menu button. To turn off the DSW press the power button for about 1 second.when the 'Shutting Page 23

24 Down' message is displayed release the power button. Setting up the DSW. Overview of the main steps for setting up the DSW are:- Check and set the sidewheel focusing direction. Set required parameters to suit your scope. Set the distances that you will use to calibrate sidewheel. Calibrate your sidewheel by focusing at each of the distances. Enter your click values if using clicks. Please read and complete the following set up steps carefully. A number of parameters need to be set before continuing with the distance / focus calibration procedure of the DSW. Page 24

25 The following Parameters must be set correctly for your scope and shooting configuration :- Side wheel rotational direction. To check the wheel direction, select the info menu. Long press the 'menu' button until the top menu is displayed with DSW at the top of the screen. Press the Down arrow button one step until the cursor is adjacent to the Info menu option. Page 25

26 Short press the menu button to enter the Info menu screen. The Info menu screen shows current temperature, battery condition and the encoder value which also shows the rotational position of the sidewheel. The encoder value should increase as the focus distance increases. If it doesn't then parameter #18 will need to be changed as follows. Long press the menu' button to escape up out of the current Info menu. Page 26

27 The top level menu screen should be displayed. Press the Down arrow button to the Config menu option by pressing the down arrow button. 'Short press the menu button to enter the Config menu. Config. 1 menu should be displayed. Page 27

28 The cursor should already be adjacent to the Parameters menu option. 'Short press' the menu button again to enter the Parameters menu. The first 4 parameters will be displayed. Page 28

29 Move the side wheel to scroll through the list of parameters until parameter number 18 is at the top. It is labelled P18 SwRevs. (Sidewheel reverse) 'Long press' the down arrow to enter edit mode. Move the sidewheel and change the value from 1 to 0 or vice-versa depending on the previous setting. 'Long press the down arrow to exit edit mode. Changing the sidewheel direction parameter only takes effect on the next power on sequence. (Most other parameter changes take immediate effect.) Changes to the parameters must be saved before powering off. To save the parameters 'long press' the menu button to escape to the top menu. Page 29

30 Cursor down and select the Config. menu again. Config 1 menu will be displayed. Cursor down to the 'Save Settings' menu option and short press the menu button. Page 30

31 The display will indicate the settings are being saved and will automatically return to the top menu when completed. Switch off the DSW by pressing the power button for about 1 sec. and power it on again. Don't forget to set the wheel to the zero position as indicated on the start up screen. Select the Info>Status menu and confirm the encoder value does increase as the focus distance is increased. Page 31

32 Set up to use clicks If you use 'clicks' for setting your turret position when shooting the following parameters need to be set. The display can be configured to display distance only, clicks only or both. Set parameter #40 to the desired setting in the Config1 > Parameters menu. Display distance #40=1, Display Clicks #40=2 Display both #40=3. If the display is set to show 'clicks' the following parameters must also be set. Set Parameter #19 to the total number of clicks to make one full turn of the turret. Set Parameter #20 to the Turret number increment. Eg if the numbers marked on the turret increase by 1 s eg set parameter #20 = 1 Eg if the numbers marked on the turret increase by 2 s eg set parameter #20 = 2 Page 32

33 Set Parameter #21 to the number of divisions between each number. If the turret is marked for example:- set parameter #21 = 3 Or if the turret is marked for example:- set parameter #21 = 5 Set Parameter #22 to 1 or 0 depending on the direction the numbers are marked. If the turret is turned anti-clockwise to increase the click, set parameter #22 = 0. If the turret is turned clockwise to increase the click, set parameter #22 = 1. Page 33

34 This example of the turret display above has the following parameter values set. Parameter #20=2 (Number values increase in 2) Parameter #21=3 (3 'ticks' between each number) Parameter #22=1 (Turret direction, clockwise) Set Parameter #35 and #36 to the MOA (minutes of Arc) for the turret. If the turret has 1/8 MOA clicks Set parameter #35=1 and parameter #36=8 If the turret has 1/4 MOA clicks Set parameter #35=1 and parameter #36=4 Page 34

35 Don't forget! Save any changes made to the parameters in the Config1 > Save Settings menu. 50 foot adaptor settings. Many shooters use a 50ft adaptor to enable close focusing of the telescopic sight. If your set up includes a 50ft adaptor or other similar optical device set Parameter #39=1. If you're not using a 50ft adaptor check this parameter #39=0. Setting the calibration distances. The DSW has a set of calibrations distances pre-set for Field Target, 8 to 55 yards, but these can be changed to any desired distances usually to suit the practice targets at the 'plinking range'. Some disciplines have different maximum and minimum target distances but for most users the pre-set distances will be a good starting point. Page 35

36 To change the calibration distances select the menu Setup > Wheel Dist. The ranges are shown as vertical bars. The figure in the top left shows which set of ranges are currently active. Set 1 shows the ranges when the telescopic sight used 'straight through' Set 2 shows the ranges when a 50ft adaptor is used. The figure in the top right of the screens shows the distance. The figure in the centre shows the cursor position. Page 36

37 The closest distance must be set on the left bar and be set to the minimum distance that will be shot. The furthest distance must be set on the last bar on the right and should be set to the furthest distance that will be shot plus a few yards or metres. Note - at this point you are not looking through the scope or focusing on any object, you are only using the wheel movement as an input method. To change an already set distance use the Up / Down buttons to move the cursor under the desired bar. 'Long press' the down button to enter edit mode and move the side wheel until the figure in the top right of the screen shows the required distance. The bar will increase / decrease in size representing the range set. 'Long press' down button to exit edit mode. The default number of distances is 10. This can be changed by altering parameter #6 Page 37

38 If a 50ft adaptor is not in use, only Set 1 calibrations distances are available. If you are using a 50ft adaptor, set 2 becomes active To select which set of distances are being used, select the Shoot menu. At the top of the screen, Shoot 1 or Shoot 2 is displayed. Shoot 1 is displayed when shooting using the scope straight through. Shoot 2 is displayed when shooting using the scope with the 50ft adaptor in place. 'Short press' the menu button toggles between the Shoot 1 and Shoot 2 screens. 'Long press' the menu button on the desired Shoot screen to escape to the top menu screen. Changes to the distances set are now made according to which Shoot display was last shown. Shoot 1 = set 1. Shoot 2 = set 2. Don t Forget! Save the changes made to the settings so far. Go to menu Config1 > Save Settings. Page 38

39 Calibrating the focus positions. The DSW has the facility to calibrate the focus positions at 2 ambient temperatures which would normally be a winter setting and a summer setting. The DSW can then be set to use either the high or low setting or compute a thermally compensated value between the high and low settings based on the current ambient temperature. The wheel calibration records the sidewheel focus position at the distances entered in the steps above. The telescopic sight is now focused at each of those distances. Select menu Setup > Cal Wheel > and choose the low temp or high temp according to current temperatures. The sidewheel position (encoder counts) are shown as vertical bars. Page 39

40 The figure in the top left shows which set of ranges are currently active. Set 1 shows the ranges when the telescopic sight used 'straight through' Set 2 shows the ranges when a 50ft adaptor is in position. Select the Shoot1 or Shoot 2 menu for the correct set of ranges. The figure in the top right of the screen shows the target distance to focus on. The figure in the centre shows the sidewheel encoder position. For example the image above shows the 50ft adaptor ranges are selected and the Page 40

41 cursor is set to the 25 distance where the sidewheel encoder count reads Start calibrating by using the Up / Down arrow buttons to select the first and closest distance. Long press the down arrow button to enter edit mode and carefully focus the telescopic sight on the target at the distance indicated in the top right of the screen. Long press the Down arrow button again to set that focus position and exit edit mode. Now select the next range and continue focusing on the complete set of ranges. If the telescopic sight is being used with a 50ft adaptor ensure the correct set of ranges are selected. Select the Shoot 2 screen in the Shoot menu so the correct Set of ranges are used. Note: When edit mode is selected in this menu it automatically saves the current temperature for the particular calibration. It is advised that the full range of distances shown on a single screen are calibrated together and with in a reasonably short Page 41

42 space of time to minimise ambient temperature changes during the calibration. The temperature at which the wheel calibrations were carried out can be reviewed on menu Setup > Cal. Wheel > Temperatures > Cal. Temps Set 1 Low is the low temperature recorded for the scope used straight through. Set 1 High is the high temperature recorded for the scope used straight through. Set 2 Low is the low temperature recorded for the scope used with 50ft adaptor. Page 42

43 Set 2 High is the high temperature recorded for the scope used with 50ft adaptor. Don t forget! Save the changes made to the settings so far. Go to menu Config1 > Save Settings. Page 43

44 Entering elevation turret click values. If your elevation turret is marked with yardages the following section can be skipped and you are ready to shoot. Long press the 'menu' button until the top menu is displayed. Select the menu Setup > Set Clicks. A graphical representation of the elevation turrets is displayed. The figure in the top left shows which set of ranges are currently active. Set 1 shows the clicks and ranges when the telescopic sight used 'straight through' Page 44

45 Set 2 shows the clicks ranges when a 50ft adaptor is used. Select the Shoot1 or Shoot 2 menu to ensure the correct set of clicks are entered for the ranges. For reference the figure in the top centre shows the turret position in individual clicks from zero. eg C26 The click value is also shown in standard form eg 12.2 The figure in the top right shows the currently selected range. eg D8 First check the numbering and intermediate ticks on screen match the turret exactly. If it is incorrect, check parameters & 22 are set correctly. The shooter will usually have a range card with their clicks already noted down and these click values can be entered by following the steps below. Use the Up / Down arrow buttons to select the first and closest distance. Page 45

46 Long press the down arrow button to enter edit mode and then move the sidewheel to set the turret display to the correct click value for the selected range. Long press the Down arrow button again to exit edit mode. Now select the next range using the Up arrow button and continue setting the click values for the complete set of ranges. If using a 50ft adaptor repeat the procedure for both distance sets. Don t forget! Save the changes made to the settings so far. Go to menu Config1 > Save Settings. Once the above settings have been entered the DSW is ready to shoot. Page 46

Count down timer is started & stopped by short press of the Down arrow button. Page 47

48 Count down timer is reset by short press of the Up arrow button. The count down timer duration is set by the value of parameter #5 Info. Pressing Menu button cycles through 6 information and function screens. Info > Status. Displays current temperature. Battery condition. Sidewheel encoder count. Page 48

49 Info > Temp Log. Displays a temperature record in degrees C. Parameter #43 changes the interval between temperature readings. The default interval between readings is 15 seconds. The log displays 30 readings with the most recent reading on the right hand side of the display. Page 49

50 Info > Compass. Displays compass North indicated by N. Wind heading is indicated by the pointer. To set the wind direction, face in to the wind and long press the down arrow button. The arrow points the wind direction in the same way as a wind sock / wind-indicator. The compass should be calibrated before use. See Compass calibration. Parameter #24 can be set to 0 to disable the compass function. Page 50

51 Info > Focus. The focus screen is a training aid for practicing focusing. Focus 1 indicates that focus is carried out with the telescopic sight used 'straight through. Focus 2 indicates that focus is carried out with a 50ft adaptor Focus on a target and after the wheel has been stationary for 2 seconds the focus position is recorded. Repeat focussing on the same target with the average distance displayed for the last 5 focusses. 'Short press' the up arrow button to clear the results. Page 51

The telescopic sight is focused at each distance and the position of the sidewheel recorded. Setup > Set Clicks. The click value is entered for each distance. Setup > Temp Response. Page 53

54 The temperature response function requires the user to have a good knowledge of the temperature characteristics of the scope in use. Most users will opt not to use this function and simply switch between the summer high cal. and winter low cal settings as required. Some telescopic sights do not exhibit a linear change in focus position from a high ambient temperature to a low one. A scope may be stable from 30 degrees to 10 degrees but then show a sudden change in focus from say 10 degrees to 0 degrees. The scope may then be stable at lower subsequent temperatures. The response graph can be set so that the temperature compensation function of the DSW follows more closely that of the scope in use. Parameter # 41 sets the way the DSW compensates for temperature. Parameter #41 1= Use low temperature wheel calibration. 2= Use high temperature wheel calibration. Page 54

The temperature response is plotted on the graph with temperature along the horizontal axis and percentage vertical. The example response graph above shows that when the temperature is at 35 degrees the DSW uses 100% of the Cal High Temp calibration values. As the ambient temperature drops to 30 the temperature response is adjusted using 95% of the Cal High Temp calibration value and 5% of Cal Low Temp calibration value. As the ambient drops further to 25 degrees the temperature compensation is adjusted from 25% of the Cal High Temp calibration value and 75% of Cal Low Temp calibration value. The coordinates of temperature and percentage can be set to the user requirements. Page 55

56 To adjust a point on the graph short press the up and down arrow buttons to move the main cursor at the top of the screen which alternates between percentage and temperature. On the graph a second cursor indicates which point on the graph is being adjusted. Move the graph cursor to the point that needs adjusting and then set the main cursor to either temperature or percentage. Long press the Down arrow button to enable edit mode. If the temperature field is selected moving the sidewheel adjusts the point on the graph horizontally. If the percentage field is selected moving the sidewheel adjusts the point on the graph vertically. When the adjustment has been made 'long press' the down arrow button to exit edit mode and continue to make adjustments as necessary. Page 56

57 Config. Config1 > Parameters. Many functions and settings of the DSW are controlled by setting the corresponding parameter values. See parameter table for description of each parameter. Page 57

Used in conjunction with the DSW Android or PC App. Settings can be sent over Bluetooth for backing up. Multiple rifle / scope configurations can be saved. Config1 > Restore Settings. Settings previously backed to an Android device or PC up can be reloaded on to the DSW. Page 58

59 Config2 > Cal. Compass. Calibrates the onboard compass to balance out any iron or ferrous objects near the DSW. Config2 > Cal. Level. Calibrates and zeros the onboard accelerometer and gyroscope. Place the rifle on a flat steady surface. Follow the instructions on the display. Config2 > Cal. Shot. Currently not fully implemented. Teaches the DSW the mechanical sound of the action firing. 60 A subsequent release of DSW firmware will record shot data each time the rifle if fired. This data will be to be downloaded to the App for analysis. Config3 > Bluetooth. Turns on the Bluetooth communications. Not currently implemented. This menu option will be used for the Shot Data analysis functions. Config3 > System Info. Displays the DSW serial number, type, version and PCB board revision. Page 60

61 Upgrading Firmware. The DSW must be set in to 'Bootloader' mode to allow the firmware to be upgraded. Proceed as follows. Turn off the DSW. Press and hold both Up & Down arrow buttons and keep them pressed while pressing the power on button. The DSW will indicate it is in bootloader mode by showing a continuous green LED. The DSW firmware can then be upgraded by running the DSW PC / Android App. See App instructions for further information. The display will remain blank while the firmware is being updated and once completed the DSW will start up normally. Page 61

62 Parameter description. Start up screen Parameter 1 The menu screen which is displayed on DSW power on. Screen brightness Parameter 2 Lower values will consume less power. Sleep time Parameter 3 The time in minutes where the DSW enters a power saving mode. The screen is turned off. Press any button or move the wheel to continue using the DSW. Power off time Parameter 4 If the DSW is inadvertently left switched on it will automatically power off after this time is elapsed. Any button press or wheel movement will reset the timer. Count down timer Parameter 5 The duration in seconds of the Shoot countdown timer in the main shoot screens. Page 62

63 Ranges Parameter 6 The number of distances to calibrate at. Rifle Cant indicator LED. Parameters The LED is controlled by 3 parameters #7 #8 #9 Parameter #7 cant limit 1. If the cant is below this value the LED is Green Parameter #8 cant limit 2. If the cant is below this value the LED is Amber. Parameter #9 cant limit 3. If the cant is below this value the LED is Red. If the cant is above the value in parameter #9 the led is turned off. Rifle Cant indicator Enable. Parameter 10 The cant indication can be turned off completely by setting parameter #10 = 0 LED brightness Parameter 11 Sets the brightness of the LEDs on the front panel. Gyro Sensitivity Parameter 12 Adjusts the sensitivity of the Gyro display in the Info>Gyro Page 63

64 Shot sensor tolerance Parameter 13 Adjusts the allowable limits of what noise the DSW considers as a shot being fired. Shot sensor training Parameter 14 The number of shots fired for training the shot sensor. Focus backlash compensation Parameter 15 Adjusts the amount of backlash compensation is applied to the focus position when reversing focus direction. This function is not yet fully implemented. Enable backlash compensation Parameter 16 Backlash compensation enable 1=on 0=off. Sidewheel offset Parameter 17 Adds an offset to the sidewheel reference position. 67 Elevation Compensation Parameter 37 When shooting an up hill or downhill shot the DSW calculates the hold under. The hold under compensation is displayed in the top right of the shoot screen. The DSW has been designed to be as maintenance free as possible. There are no user serviceable parts inside the main housing. DO NOT open the main housing as this will void the warranty. After use wipe over with a dry soft cloth to remove any moisture or dirt. Page 71

72 The housing and brackets are rust proof and do not need coating with a corrosion inhibitor / gun oil for example. Wipe the display with a soft cloth. DO NOT use solvents or abrasive cleaners. Periodically check the air-gap between the position sensor and sensor track. The Sensor should not contact the track. Check the security of the sensor connector; this should be gently tightened to ensure that the connector seals are waterproof. Page 72

73 Troubleshooting. Display will not turn on:- Check battery cap is tight. Check with new battery. Ranges displayed are inaccurate:- Switch off, set wheel to zero position and restart the DSW. Check the gap between the sensor and sensor track is not too wide. Sidewheel was moved too rapidly. Turn wheel at a slower rate. Can not connect to the App via Bluetooth. Move the DSW closer to Bluetooth receiver. Page 73

Rowan Engineering warrants to the original purchaser that the product is free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase. Provided it is returned post prepaid and proof of purchase date. Rowan Engineering at its discretion, agrees to repair or replace the unit free of charge within the warranty period. The warranty on any replacement parts will last for the remainder of the original warrantee period. Rowan Engineering reserves the right to offer an alternative product(s) where the original is no longer available. The Warranty applies to the original retail purchaser from the date of the original purchase date and is none transferrable. Proof of purchase is required. This warranty does not cover damage resulting from accident, disassembly, lack of reasonable care, misuse or application that was not in accordance with the user manual. Page 74

Rowan Engineering will not be liable of any incidental of consequential damages or loss caused by the breach of any expressed or implied warranty. Except to the extent prohibited by applicable law, any implied warranty of merchantability of fitness for a particular purpose is limited for 2 years. This warranty does not cover the battery which is considered a user serviceable part or display screen cover. The warranty does not affect your statutory rights. Repair. In the unlikely event the product requires service or repair we recommend that you contact the Rowan Engineering technical support on in the first instance, or contact us by , info@rowanengineering.com If there is a fault that we are unable to resolve then we will issue you with a returns Page 75

To return your DSW under warranty, send it suitably packed with the battery removed with postage prepaid, a note indicating the returns reference number and a brief description of the fault, with proof of purchase to our main office. Disposal. DO NOT dispose of with household waste. Electronic waste disposal is controlled by the "Waste Electric and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013 that became law on the 1 st January 2014 and covers such equipment as the DSW. Please recycle where facilities exist. If the DSW is to be disposed of this must be undertaken in accordance with the WEEE regulations. Normally this will simply require the equipment to be taken to a local waste recycling facility. Check with your local Page 76

77 authority or our technical team for recycling/disposal advice as regional variations apply. Battery should be removed before disposal and recycled separately.
