2 2 VORTEX StrikeFire Red Dot Scope Manual Thank you for your purchase of the Vortex StrikeFire Red Dot scope! We are sure you ll be pleased with the versatility, performance and durability offered by this compact scope. Allowing rapid, both eyes open use, the StrikeFire is ideally suited for fast action shooting situations with a wide variety of firearms. 3 Installation: 4 To get the best results from your Vortex StrikeFire red dot riflescope, proper mounting is essential. Although not difficult, the correct steps must be followed. If you are unsure of your abilities, it would be best to use the services of a qualified gunsmith. Mounting Use an appropriate Weaver or Picatinny type base for your firearm (not included) and attach per manufacturers instructions. These may be readily purchased at most firearms dealers. Use the included 30mm ring. Remove upper ring and attach saddle part of ring to the base making sure that it is solidly seated in base groove. Place StrikeFire on ring saddle so that lens covers flip straight upwards. Position cap on top of scope, align screw holes and attach cap screws. Position the scope so you have at least four inches of eye relief once the StrikeFire is attached to prevent recoil injury (see diagram). Because the StrikeFire has unlimited eye relief, the scope can be mounted further away if desired. Checking that clamp and saddle are hooked around outside of base, press saddle forward and tighten clamp screw. Tighten cap screws evenly until all are snug (use caution so as not to over-tighten). Once tight, the scope should have no movement. It is a good practice to re-check mounting and base screws regularly to be sure they haven't loosened under field conditions. 5

4 6 StrikeFire Adjustments Powering Up Install battery in compartment with (-) end facing the cover (see diagram). Use the power on/off button to activate the illuminated dot. This button will also change the illumination color from red to green with an additional click. Pushing the button once more will turn the unit off. If you forget to turn the StrikeFire off after use, it will automatically shut down in one hour. Brightness and Color Adjustments The StrikeFire dot features 10 illumination brightness settings in both red and green color. To change the dot color, press the On/Off button. Dot brightness may be increased or decreased by using the appropriate button. (top button increases brightness, bottom button decreases brightness). Night Vision Device Mode If you are using a night vision device (not included) with the StrikeFire, pushing the NV button will activate the Night Vision mode. The Night Vision mode will set the brightness to the lowest possible level, which will work best with most night vision devices. While in NV mode, the brightness Up/Down buttons will yield 2 brightness adjustments if desired. To de-activate the NV mode and return to the standard daytime mode, simply press the NV button one more time. The StrikeFire will automatically return to your previously selected daytime brightness level. When you return to the NV mode, the StrikeFire will also automatically return to the previously selected brightness level. Doubler The StrikeFire red dot sight includes a removable 2X doubler which may be used for longer distance shooting. To attach the doubler, thread it into the eyepiece end of the scope. Use the focus knob to adjust for sharpest image. 7

5 8 Centering of Dot Your Vortex StrikeFire red dot scope is pre-set from the factory with the dot in the center of the adjustment ranges. This is the ideal position to begin sight-in. If you have changed the settings and wish to reset the dot to the center, it can be done easily. Turn the dial (windage or elevation) fully until stopped in one direction or the other. Carefully counting the clicks, turn the dial in the other direction until stopped. Turn the dial back again half the amount of clicks counted previously and that adjustment will be centered. Do this with both windage and elevation dials and the dot will be centered. Windage and Elevation Adjustment Vortex StrikeFire red dot scopes incorporate coin adjustable elevation and windage dials with audible clicks. To adjust your settings, first of all remove the covers. To make adjustments, turn the adjustment dial in the appropriate direction Up/Down, Left/Right indicated by the arrows. Move the dials in the direction you wish the bullets point of impact to change. Each small click will move the point of impact 1/2 Minute of Angle. 1/2 MOA will correspond to 1/2" at 100 yards, 1" at 200 yards, 1.5" at 300 yards etc. Ex. At a 100 yard sight-in distance, it will take 2 clicks to move the bullets point of impact one inch. Bore Sighting After mounting, initial bore sighting of the StrikeFire at short range (25-50 yards) will save time and money at the range. This can be done using a bore sighter (following manufacturers instructions), or by removing the bolt and sighting through the barrel on a bolt action rifle. With the rifle solidly placed on a bench and the bolt removed, sight through the bore and center the target inside the barrel. With the bullseye centered in the bore, make windage and elevation adjustments until the illuminated dot is also centered over the bulls-eye. 9

6 10 Range Sight-In Final sight-in should be done at the range using the exact ammunition you expect to hunt or shoot with. After your StrikeFire has been bore sighted, fire a shot or two at your desired zero distance to check that you're roughly on target. If necessary, adjust dot to put you near the center of the target (see section on Windage & Elevation Adjustment). Next, fire a three shot group as precisely as possible. Using the center of this group as a reference, make necessary adjustments for windage & elevation correction. Adjust the dials in the direction you wish the group to move. Fire a final three shot group to confirm proper adjustment. Repeat as necessary. Shooting Your StrikeFire The key thing to remember when shooting with your new StrikeFire red dot scope is to keep both your eyes open!* This will allow you to take full advantage of the StrikeFire s ability to get on target very quickly. The StrikeFire is parallax free beyond 50 yards. This means that eye placement is not critical if your target is further than 50 yards away if you can see the dot on your target, you ll hit there! *When using the add-on doubler for distance shooting, you may find it easier to shoot with one eye closed due to the increased magnification. Maintenance Cleaning Your StrikeFire red dot scope will require very little routine maintenance other than periodically cleaning the exterior lenses. When cleaning the lenses, be sure to use products designed for use on coated optical lenses (ex. Vortex Lens Pen and Cleaning Kits). Be sure to blow away any dust or grit on the lenses prior to wiping the surfaces. Using your breath or a very small amount of water or pure alcohol can help remove stubborn things like dried water spots. If desired, the scopes exterior may be cleaned by wiping with a soft, dry cloth. 11

7 12 Lubrication All components of Vortex riflescopes are permanently lubricated and no additional lubricant should be applied. Do not attempt to disassemble any components of your riflescope. Storage Avoid storing your Vortex StrikeFire exposed to direct sunlight or any very hot location. Storage and use in extreme cold will shorten battery life. Keep lens covers closed when scope is not being used to protect lenses. Remove battery when storing for extended periods Battery To replace the battery, remove the outer cover and drop battery out. Install new battery with (-) end facing the cover. When replacing cover, be sure it is snug and that sealing O-ring is in place. Typical Battery Life 2000 hours Replacement Battery Lithium CR2 Troubleshooting Please check the following items prior to returning a scope for service: Dot does not illuminate: Dead battery Replace. Incorrect battery install - Install battery with (-) facing the cap. Loose cover - Verify cover is snug and contact points are clean. Problems zeroing rifle: - Many times, problems thought to be with the scope are actually mount problems. Be sure the mounts are tight to the rifle, and the scope is secure in the ring. You should not be able to twist or move the scope in the ring. - Insufficient windage or elevation adjustment range can indicate alignment problems with base mount holes drilled in rifles receiver, base mounts or alignment problems with barrel and receiver. Re-center reticle (see Centering of Reticle) and then check Bore Sight. If reticle is way off the target (while centered), there may be a problem with the rifles mounting holes. - If rifle is failing to group well, there are several things to check. Be sure the rifles action is bedded correctly, and all mounting screws are properly tightened. The rifles barrel and action should be clean and free of excessive oil or copper fouling. Some rifle/ammunition combinations simply dont work well together - try shooting a brand and type of ammunition known to previously group well in the rifle. 13
