2 2 General information This manual contains technical information regarding Bayer SeedGrowth Equipment. Please read and understand these instructions completely before proceeding to install and operate the equipment. Bayer reserves the right to change specifications, models, components, or materials at any time without notice. 4 4 EXPLANATORY NOTES EXPLanatory NOTES The 8-Pump Loss In Weight (LW) Application Program operates one Continuous Batch Treater (CBT25, 50, 00 & 200) and up to eight Pump & Weighing Stations. For demonstration purposes only, the CBT200 and it s specific data will be used to help explain using the program and will be referred to in examples throughout this guide. Interactive program screens display on the Human Machine Interface (HMI) touch panel. Each screen provides the same message bar at the top and button icons on the task bar along the bottom. Button icon colors, such as yellow and red shown below, call attention to maintenance & alarm issues. This guide uses the hand cursor icon (shown below) to indicate an action; such as touching a button or device icon to open/close a pop-up or navigate between screens. 5 SYSTEM START-UP 5 SYSTEM START-UP Main Control Panel HMI 2 Initiate the PLC Step : Flip the main control panel power lever up - the power light (when lit) indicates power is ON, as shown above. Step 2: Push the boot battery backup button - the PLC will boot up and display the application program MAIN MENU SCREEN on the HMI touch panel, as shown above Note: the system start-up sequence must be done as described above! Reverse the order for system shut-down.
6 6 main menu SCREEN Maint. Main Menu Screen After the initial boot (page 5), the HMI displays the Main Menu Screen, as shown above. Touch each button icon along the bottom task bar (as shown above) and browse through each screen to become familiar with the application program. Pages 6-39 explain the purpose and functionality of each screen and devices displayed. Step : Touch the Maint. button icon: navigates to the Maintenance Screen Note: once the 8-pump LW batching system has been installed, the application program requires users to be logged in as either default(user level only, no changes), MANAGER (access to make changes, create recipes, password protected) or TREATER (a Bayer associate, total access, used mainly during installation, password protected). See pages for login procedures.
7 maintenance SCREEN 7 Setpoints Touch to change the numerical value on the touch pad pop-up... Enter value ESC closes pop-up Maint. Maintenance Screen The Maintenance Screen allows users to view run time hours set for each Liquid Tank -8 (Pump Station) and Powder Feeder -2. The Treater Bowl VFD, Blower Motor, Atomizer Motor and Air Filter are indicators which display the total hours run. These are all site-specific and set/changed when logged in as Manager. Setpoint Hours accumulate the total hours run for each component and will appear yellow (as shown above) once the component has reached the hours set; e.g Yellow indicates that maintenance or calibration should be completed (refer to the Maintenance Manual for specifics). Once resolved, touch the Reset button icon: yellow indicator color is removed and the timer resets to zero. Also, the Maint. button icon on the task bar will turn from yellow to grey. Step : Touch the Calibrate button icon: navigates to the Calibration Screen Tip: The yellow color is an indicator only and will not stop or interrupt the treating process. The yellow color continues to display as a reminder until resolved and the operator touches the Reset button icon.
8 8 CALIBRATION SCREEN PT Calibration Screen The Calibration Screen displays the high, low and current weight values and allows users to calibrate each Pump Station [LT-8], Powder Hopper [PT-2] and the seed Inlet Hopper [hopper]. Each component will need to be calibrated separately. This procedure will be covered later on in the guide (page 40). Step : Touch the Priming button icon: navigates to the Priming Screen
9 PRIMING SCREEN 9 2 Priming Screen The Priming Screen allows users to dispense chemical from each Pump Station [LT-8] to the Static Mixer as well as powder from each Powder Feeder [PT-2]. This procedure will be covered later on in the guide (page 46). Step : Touch the Batch Recipe Edit button icon: navigates to the Batch Recipe Edit Screen
10 0 BATCH RECIPE EDIT SCREEN Batch Recipe Edit Screen The Batch Recipe Edit Screen displays the treater Machine Parameters, hopper Seed Count, Powder & 2 and Pump Station [LT-8] set points. Recipes and set points can be changed or edited from this screen when logged in as Manager. This procedure will be covered later on in the guide (page 55). Step : Touch the Batch Recipe button icon: navigates to the Batch Recipe Screen
11 BATCH RECIPE SCREEN 2 Batch Recipes Screen The Batch Recipe Screen is the main run control screen where users can view device status: ENABLed, DISabLed, StoPPed or RUNNING. This procedure will be covered later on in the guide (page 6). Step : Touch the Bowl Graphics button icon: navigates to the Bowl Graphic Screen
12 2 BOWL GRAPHIC SCREEN Bowl Graphic Screen The Bowl Graphic Screen allows users to view and access equipment devices, which are configured when logged in as Manager. Equipment device details will be covered later on in the guide (page 24). Step : Touch the Totals button icon: navigates to the Totals Screen
13 TOTALS SCREEN 3 Totals Screen The Totals Screen allows users to view the accumulated totals for each Liquid Tank (-8), Powder Totals (-2) and the Seed Hopper. Users can toggle the numerical values display between Metric Units or Imperial Units (US Units) by making the selection and then touching the Reset Totals button icon under the Display Options block (circled above). Step : Touch the Reports button icon: navigates to the REPORT INFORMATION pop-up
14 4 reports 2 Report Information Pop-up The REPORT INFORMATION pop-up displays as a layer on top of an active screen (as shown above on top of the Totals screen). Step : If an alarm is displayed (as shown above), touch the Acknowledge Alarms button icon to remove the alarm. The Alarms button icon on the task bar will turn from red to grey. 16 6 LIQUID tank devices - LIQUID TANKS -4 SCREEN LIQUid TANK DEViceS LT 3 LT 4 Liquid Tanks -4 Screen The LIQUID TANKS -4 Screen* displays up to four graphics of each enabled pump station (LT -4). Pump stations and devices are enabled when logged in as MANAGER (see EQUIPMENT OPTIONS, page 5). Each pump station features the following devices: a Rinse Solenoid Valve (RINSE-SV), a Supply Solenoid Valve (SUP-SV), a proximity sensor (PX), a weight transmitter (WT), a transfer pump (SUPPLY), a dosing pump (DISCH) and a Discharge Solenoid Valve (DIS-SV). The following pages help explain each device purpose and functionality. Touch each device: a device pop-up appears as a layer on top of the LIQUID TANKS -4 screen, as shown on page 7 *Touch the TANK GRAPHICS 5-8 button icon on the task bar: navigates to LIQUID TANKS 5-8 Screen, which displays up to four additional pump station graphics (LT 5-8) and allows access to the same station features of each enabled device.
17 LIQUID TANKS -4 SCREEN - LIQUID TANK 2 RINSE VALVE POP-UP 7 AUTO By touching, Auto is highlighted. The device cannot be energized ENERGIZE In MANUAL mode, by touching, is highlighted and opens or starts the device MANUAL By touching, Manual is highlighted, the device can be energized and displays the manual mode icon next to the device... ENABLE / DISABLE Touch the Enable button. The Enable button toggles to display Disable and the message appears: Soft Lock Enabled This prevents the device from being energized (used) and also displays the locked mode icon next to the device... 2 DE-ENERGIZE In MANUAL mode, by touching, is highlighted and closes or stops the device Liquid Tanks -4 Screen - Rinse Valve Pop-up Step : Touch the RINSE-SV device icon: displays the LIQUID TANK 2 RINSE VALVE device pop-up. This device is used to introduce water during the rinse-out process and should be left in the Auto: DE-energiZED mode (as shown above). The device activates automatically, according to the recipe time line set by the Manager. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.
18 8 LIQUID TANKS -4 SCREEN - LIQUID TANK 2 SUPPLY VALVE POP-UP 2 Liquid Tanks -4 Screen - Supply Valve Pop-up Step : Touch the SUP-SV device icon: displays the LIQUID TANK 2 SUPPLY VALVE device pop-up. This valve allows chemical to flow from the Work Tank to the pump station 20L Supply Tank and should be left in the Auto: DE-ENERGIZED mode (as shown above). The device activates automatically, according to the recipe time line set by the Manager. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.
19 LIQUID TANKS -4 SCREEN - LIQUID TANK 2 HIGH LEVEL PROX POP-UP 9 2 Liquid Tanks -4 Screen - High Level Prox Pop-up Step : Touch the PX device icon: displays the LIQUID TANK 2 HIGH LEVEL PROX device pop-up. The High Level Proximity Sensor device displays off when no chemical is sensed inside the 20L Supply Tank (as shown above) or ON when the high level of chemical is detected inside the 20L Supply Tank. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.
20 20 LIQUID TANKS -4 SCREEN - LIQUID TANK 2 WEIGHT POP-UP control deadband Touch to change the numerical value on the touch pad pop-up... Enter value ESC closes pop-up 2 Liquid Tanks -4 Screen - Weight Pop-up Step : Touch the LT WT field: displays the LIQUID TANK 2 WEIGHT device pop-up. This device displays the current 20L Supply Tank level (High to Low) in total grams. The two (2) grams delay (as shown above) is the recommended delay time setting for this device. Step : Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.
21 LIQUID TANKS -4 SCREEN - LIQUID TANK 2 SUPPLY PUMP POP-UP 2 2 Liquid Tanks -4 Screen - Supply Pump Pop-up Step : Touch the SUPPLY graphic: displays the LIQUID TANK 2 SUPPLY PUMP device pop-up. This device allows users to manually operate the Supply Pump in either Forward or Reverse for priming, calibration or pre-checking for functionality. Follow these steps to switch the device from Forward to Reverse: touch Manual > Forward (pump runs forward) > Stop > Reverse (pump runs in reverse) > Stop. Return the device pop-up to the Auto: StoPPed mode. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.
22 22 LIQUID TANKS -4 SCREEN - LIQUID TANK 2 DISCHARGE PUMP POP-UP 2 Liquid Tanks -4 Screen - Discharge Pump Pop-up Step : Touch the DISCH graphic: displays the LIQUID TANK DISCHARGE PUMP device pop-up. This device allows users to manually operate the Discharge Pump in either Forward or Reverse for priming, calibration or pre-checking for functionality. Follow these steps to switch the device from Forward to Reverse: touch Manual > Forward (pump runs forward) > Stop > Reverse (pump runs in reverse) > Stop. Return the device pop-up to the Auto: StoPPED mode. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.
23 LIQUID TANKS -4 SCREEN - LIQUID TANK 2 DISCHARGE VALVE POP-UP Liquid Tanks -4 Screen - Discharge Valve Pop-up Step : Touch the DIS-SV device icon: displays the LIQUID TANK 2 DISCHARGE VALVE device pop-up. The Discharge Valve allows chemical to flow from the pump station to the Static Mixer and should be left in the Auto: DE-energiZED mode (as shown above). The device activates automatically, according to the recipe time line set by the Manager. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes. 24 24 EQUIPMENT DEVICES - BOWL GRAPHIC SCREEN EQUIPMent DEViceS Bowl Graphic Screen The Bowl Graphic Screen displays each equipment device. The following devices are enabled when logged in as MANAGER: SV, SV2, Air Pressure SWITCH, Calibration Weight, HOP-WT, HOP-SV, PT-VIB, PT-WT, PT-VFD, DIS-SV, BLOWER, ATOMIZ- ER, BOWL-VFD, the Static Mixer AIR PURGE SV, HOT RINSE SV, LT DIS SV, LT2 DIS SV. For demonstration purposes, only one () optional powder feeder [Powder ] is enabled, as shown above. The following pages help explain each device purpose and functionality. Touch each device: a device pop-up appears as a layer on top of the Bowl Graphic Screen, as shown on page 25
25 BOWL GRAPHIC SCREEN - HOPPER - SUPPLY VALVE 2 POP-UP 25 AUTO By touching, Auto is highlighted. The Enable button toggles to display Disable and the message appears: Soft Lock Enabled This prevents the device from being energized (used) and also displays the locked mode icon next to the device... 2 DE-ENERGIZE In MANUAL mode, by touching, is highlighted and closes or stops the device Bowl Graphic Screen - Supply Valve 2 Pop-up Step : Touch the SV2* device icon: displays the HOPPER SUPPLY VALVE 2 device pop-up (*Touch the SV device icon for the same results as SV2 device icon). CBT200: The storage hopper has two solenoid valve devices: SV & SV2 (as shown above). Each supply valve device operates an independent clam shell gate, which opens and fills the weigh scale hopper to 75% of a determined weight of seed. One gate will shut while the other slowfills the remaining amount of seed, for better accuracy and should be left in the Auto: DE-ENERGIZED mode (as shown above). The device activates automatically, according to the recipe time line set by the Manager. CBT25, 50 & 00: These models all have a single solenoid valve device which opens to fill the weigh scale hopper with seed. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.
26 26 BOWL GRAPHIC SCREEN - BOWL AIR PRESSURE SWITCH POP-UP DEB OUNCE TIMER Touch to change the numerical value on the touch pad pop-up... Enter value ESC closes pop-up 2 Bowl Graphic Screen - Air Pressure Switch Pop-up Step : Touch the SWITCH device icon: displays the BOWL AIR PRESSURE SWITCH device pop-up. This device pop-up gives access to view and change the debounce timer (delay time) of the air pressure switch. The two (2) second delay (as shown above) is the recommended delay time setting for this device. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.
27 BOWL GRAPHIC SCREEN - HOPPER CALIBRATION SV POP-UP 27 2 Bowl Graphic Screen - Calibration SV Pop-up Step : Touch the Calibration Weight device icon: displays the HOPPER CALIBRATION SV device pop-up. This device pop-up gives access to verify if the calibration weight is within spec. This is normally checked on the Calibration screen but can be done when the treater is not running and should be left in the Auto: DE-ENERGIZED mode (as shown above). The device activates automatically, according to the recipe time line set by the Manager. This procedure will be covered later on in the guide (page 40). Follow these steps to switch the device from ENERGIZED to DE-ENERGIZED: touch Manual > Energize > (this manually lowers the calibration weights down onto the scale load cells) > De-energize (this manually raises the calibration weights up off of the scale load cells). Return the device pop-up to the Auto: DE-ENERGIZED mode. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.
28 28 BOWL GRAPHIC SCREEN - HOPPER WEIGHT POP-UP control deadband Touch to change the numerical value on the touch pad pop-up... Enter value ESC closes pop-up 2 Bowl Graphic Screen - Weight Pop-up Step : Touch the HOP-WT device icon: displays the HOPPER WEIGHT device pop-up. The weigh scale Hopper Weight transmitter device displays the current Hopper seed level (High to Low) in total kilograms (kg). Users can view and change the Control Deadband timer (delay time) of the transmitter switch. The two (2) second delay (as shown above) is the recommended delay time setting for this device. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.
29 BOWL GRAPHIC SCREEN - HOPPER DISCHARGE VALVE POP-UP 29 2 Bowl Graphic Screen - Discharge Valve Pop-up Step : Touch the HOP-SV device icon: displays the HOPPER DISCHARGE VALVE device pop-up. This device operates the hopper gate, which allows seed to flow from the hopper into the mixing bowl and should be left in the Auto: DEenergiZED mode (as shown above). The device activates automatically, according to the recipe time line set by the Manager. Follow these steps to switch the device from ENERGIZED to DE-ENERGIZED: touch Manual > Energize > De-energize. Return the device popup to the Auto: DE-ENERGIZED mode. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.
30 30 BOWL GRAPHIC SCREEN - powder feeder vibrator POP-UP 2 Bowl Graphic Screen - Vibrator Pop-up Step : Touch the PT-VIB device icon: displays the POWDER FEEDER VIBRATOR device pop-up. This device operates the optional powder feeder vibrator, which helps powder flow from the hopper into the mixing bowl and should be left in the Auto: DE-ENERGIZED mode (as shown above). The device activates automatically, according to the recipe time line set by the Manager. Follow these steps to switch the device from ENERGIZED to DE-ENERGIZED: touch Manual > Energize > De-energize. Return the device pop-up to the Auto: DE-ENERGIZED mode. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.

This device operates the optional powder feeder motor, which dispenses powder from the hopper into the mixing bowl and should be left in the Auto: DE-ENERGIZED mode (as shown above). The device activates automatically, according to the recipe time line set by the Manager. Follow these steps to switch the device from Forward to Reverse: touch Manual > Forward > Stop > Reverse > Stop. Return the device pop-up to the Auto: StoPPed mode. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.
33 BOWL GRAPHIC SCREEN - BOWL DISCHARGE DOOR SV POP-UP 33 2 Bowl Graphic Screen - Discharge Door SV Pop-up Step : Touch the DIS-SV device icon: displays the BOWL DISCHARGE DOOR SV device pop-up. This device operates the mixing bowl discharge door and allows treated seed to exit the mixing bowl and should be left in the Auto: de-energized mode (as shown above). The device activates automatically, according to the recipe time line set by the Manager. Follow these steps to switch the device from ENERGIZED to DE-ENERGIZED: touch Manual > Energize > De-energize. Return the device pop-up to the Auto: DE-ENERGIZED mode. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.

This device operates the bowl air blower motor, which dispenses air into the mixing bowl and should be left in the Auto: StoPPed mode (as shown above). The device activates automatically, according to the recipe time line set by the Manager. Follow these steps to switch the device from Forward to Reverse: touch Manual > Forward > Stop > Reverse > Stop. Return the device pop-up to the Auto: StoPPed mode. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.

This device operates the atomizer motor, which dispenses chemical into the mixing bowl and should be left in the Auto: StoPPed mode (as shown above). The device activates automatically, according to the recipe time line set by the Manager. Follow these steps to switch the device from Forward to Reverse: touch Manual > Forward > Stop > Reverse > Stop. Return the device pop-up to the Auto: StoPPed mode. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.

This device operates the bowl motor, which turns the mixing bowl and should be left in the Auto: StoPPed mode (as shown above). The device activates automatically, according to the recipe time line set by the Manager. Follow these steps to switch the device from Forward to Reverse: touch Manual > Forward > Stop > Reverse > Stop. Return the device pop-up to the Auto: StoPPed mode. This device operates the air purge valve used to clear chemical out of the static mixer at the end of a batch run and should be left in the Auto: de-energized mode (as shown above). The device activates automatically, according to the recipe time line set by the Manager. Follow these steps to switch the device from ENERGIZED to DE-ENERGIZED: touch Manual > Energize > De-energize. Return the device pop-up to the Auto: DE-ENERGIZED mode. Step 2: Touch the Close button icon: pop-up closes.

67 Exposure Control 67 ExpoSUre Control Always use caution and common sense when working with chemicals. Read the product label and SDS carefully and follow their instructions exactly as described. The following Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) recommendations and best practices help promote safe use in seed treatment. Wear protective clothing Wear disposable or reusable coveralls with long sleeves. Hand protection required Wear chemical-resistant gloves. Treatment products Keep products in a locked room that has been approved for crop protection products. Wear a mask Wear respiratory protection. Wear rubber boots Wear chemical resistant rubber boots. Eye protection required Wear protective eyewear. Labels Label recommendations and directions for handling must be followed, including treatment procedure (use of sticker) as well as the safety requirements. Calibration Seed treatment equipment must be checked and calibrated regularly to ensure accurate and safe application. Clean seed Use well cleaned seed to avoid creation of polluted dust that will contaminate the treating facility, workers, farmers and the environment during sowing. Cleaning Use a vacuum to clean machines and coveralls. Never use compressed air. Laundry Wash soiled reusable clothing separately. Workers must take a shower after each shift. Empty containers Non-returnable empty containers must be triple rinsed before they can be disposed. For others the recommendation of the producer must be followed. Spillage Spillage must be avoided; it must be thoroughly cleaned up to avoid contaminating the environment and waterways. Maintenance Keep machinery clean between treating sessions.

The pump bearings could be worn. High pump speed. 3 Low Capacity / pressure Low output or poor discharge pressure of the pump could be the result of: A closed valve in the suction or discharge lines. Tubing failure: the pump housing will fill with product. A blockage of the suction line or the lack of product in the pump. 4 High Capacity / pressure High output or discharge pressure of the pump could be the result of: Pump speed is set too high. A high specific gravity of the product. Tubing diameter is too small for the volume required. 5 Pump selection The pump chosen is inadequate for the required pump speed, product travel, or viscosity of product could result in: Leakage in the suction line. 6 Vibration and hammering of the pump and lines The pump has a pulsating flow which could be the result of: Improperly installed product lines: sagging suction or discharging lines. 7 Tubing stress A decreased tubing life span could be the result of: Improper selection of tubing: non-resistant to the chemical product used. 8 Pump speed stress Low pump speed can extend the tubing life span; high pump speed can decrease it and result in: High pump speed can over-stress the tubing and reduce the tubing life span. 9 Retracted tubing into pump housing Tubing pulled into the pump housing could be the result of: Insufficient or lack of lubricant. This guide provides recommendations for responsible stewardship practices and proper seed treatment procedures that can help maximize the benefits to your customers operations by supporting bee health and ensuring a healthy environment and abundant food supply for future generations. Live by the label For your own safety and to protect the environment, we recommend the following precautions: Read and understand all product labels prior to application. Read and understand your seed treatment equipment operator s manual. Keep seed treatment products and treated seed out of reach of children, livestock and wildlife. Store seed treatment products and treated seed under appropriate conditions. Wear protective clothing and gloves to avoid contact with skin and respiratory tract during seed treatment application and equipment cleaning. Refer to product label and MSDS for required PPE. Storage & Disposal After seed treatment is completed, review this checklist: Ensure that any leftover product is returned to the original containers and properly stored for future use. Do not reuse empty seed treatment product containers for any other purposes. Dispose of empty containers according to local and state regulations and container return policies. Offer empty containers for recycling if permitted. Return empty returnable containers to the manufacturer promptly. Dispose of contaminated seed treatment wastes according to local and state regulations.
78 78 Recommendations for Good Seed Treatment Application Applying Seed Treatment When it s time for seed treatment applications, consider these guidelines: Treat only high-quality seed that has been cleaned well and is free of seed dust fragments to avoid creating dust in the treating facility, as well as during seed handling and planting by the grower. Utilize only high-quality seed treatment products designed specificallyand / or recommended for seed treatment by the manufacturer. Use appropriate seed conveying equipment to minimize mechanical damage and the creation of seed dust both prior to and after treatment application. Assure that seed treatment equipment operators are trained in the proper use of the equipment, including calibration and procedures to ensure accurate application. Assure seed treatment equipment is appropriate for the crop, treatment and rates being applied. Follow the seed treatment manufacturer s coating recommendation. Coatings can provide a number of benefits including improves seed flow and plantability, but are principally used to control the loss of active ingredient from treated seed. Do not eliminate the coating or deviate from the manufacturer s recommended dose, as it will increase the potential for loss of active ingredient as well as exposure from dust abrasion. Monitor the seed treatment application accuracy by comparing the amount of product used versus the amount of seed treated to avoid under- or over-applying. If out of balance, recalibrate the seed treating equipment. If spills occur, clean area promptly and dispose of spilled material properly according to local regulations.
