2 Modular System For Statutorily Compliant Implementation Track & Trace Many manufacturers in the pharmaceutical and food industry know the challenge of inspecting codes printed on unoriented products as bottles or vials. The difficulty lies not only in the fact that codes may be printed on any side of the package due to different coding scenarios, but also reading a code from a top down view for aggregation purposes is not possible. Benefits For these reasons, METTLER TOLEDO PCE developed a solution that covers all of the described needs and more: The Bottle Mosaic Station (BMS) is an all-in-one vision inspection solution for checking code presence and quality combined with additional code printing capabilities for Track & Trace applications.** It consists of a Mosaic Station and a side grip. How it works The BMS uses its muti-camera technology to obtain a 360 degree view of an unoriented object, e.g. a bottle, allowing it to read label codes wherever they are placed on the bottle s surface. This code contains the serial number. The BMS checks whether the code is present, readable and correct. In aggregation scenarios, where side labels cannot be read during the aggregation process, a helper code must be printed either on the bottle top or bottom side. The BMS reads the helper code with the side grip camera and links it with the label code on the bottle side. Both codes are simutaneously sent to the PCE Line Manager Software. The helper code itself can either be pre-printed on the bottle before it reaches the BMS, or applied to the bottle using an integrated printer. BMS Use Cases and Configurations The BMS provides several configuration options concerning helper codes (HC) and preprinted helper codes (PHC) which can be printed at the top (T) or bottom (B) of an unoriented object. The codes can be printed visible (VI) or using ultra-violet () ink. 3 Track & Trace Bottle Mosaic Station 3.0 Fast, Regulatory Compliant Inspection The Bottle Mosaic Station can carry out different working steps: marking, verifying and code linking. All integrated components, such as the conveyor, printing system, highresolution camera, product transfers and sorting equipment are perfectly matched, ensuring a seamless process. The Bottle Mosaic Station allows for quick changeover in a broad variety of product formats, as well as seamless upgrades to adapt to an ever evolving market. Individual bottles are transferred directly from the filling system using an accurate transport unit. Regulationspecific data such as the serial number, batch and shelf life date, as well as the 2D datamatrix code are read precisely and the helper code is printed on the bottle top or bottom. The BMS consists of five major components: Mosaic Station: This six camera station is used for 360 reading of side label codes. With an optional seventh camera it can read helper codes on top of a bottle. Seventh Camera: The seventh camera is indispensible for reading helper codes. For reading of top visible codes, the camera can be mounted within the Mosaic Station. For helper codes located on the top of the product, there is no need of a side grip. In case of a bottom code, the seventh camera is placed in the side grip. In case of reading -printed codes, the camera is mounted outside of the Mosaic station along with an light. Side Grip: This is only required when the helper code is applied at the bottom of the bottle. In this scenario the print head and the seventh camera will be mounted in the side grip. Printer: This is only required when the helper code needs to be printed in-line. Conveyor: The conveyor is mounted below the Mosaic. It leads goods from one production station to the following. Products that are not up to standard are rejected. This guarantees that only products which fulfill legal provisions continue to be processed. A rejector is available as an optional addition. The label codes are read by the Mosaic and after certain number of bottles have passed, the mosaic station completes the aggregation process and the printer integrated in the CAK prints the case label. After passing the Mosaic, the bottles are packed manually inside the case which then is provided with a label.
