1 61 st Singapore International Photography Award 2014 Organised by: FIAP Patronage PSA Recognition The Photographic Society of Singapore No. 2014/297 No. PSA The coveted Singapore International Photography Award shall be conferred on the entrant who accumulates the highest number of points from the various sections in one Salon. The Singapore International Photography Award Overall Local Best will be awarded for the local entrant with the highest number of points from the various sections in one Salon. In case of a tie, the exhibitor who wins more awards shall be declared the recipient. Entrants are encouraged to submit entries for all the sections. In addition, a FIAP Blue Pin will be awarded to the Best Author who achieved the highest number of total acceptances. 2 61 st Singapore International Photography Award 2014 Conditions of Entry Definitions Singapore International Photography Award ( SIPA ) is open to all photo enthusiasts; however, an entry may be rejected when The Photographic Society of Singapore ( PSS or the Organiser ) in its reasonable discretion, believes the entry does not conform to the exhibition rules and conditions. Entries must be originated as photographs (image-captures of objects via light sensitivity) made by the entrant on photographic emulsion or acquired digitally. By virtue of submitting an entry, the entrant certifies the work as his own and permits the Organiser to reproduce all or part of the submitted images and other information free of charge for publication, posting on websites, and/or display in media related to the exhibition. The Organiser assumes no liability for any misuse of copyright. Images may be altered, either digitally or otherwise, by the maker. Artworks or computer graphics created by the entrant may be incorporated if the photographic content predominates, subject to divisional restrictions. All final works must be photographic digital files. Titles of the pictures will not generally be read at the time of judging unless desired by judges. Definitions of Travel A Photo Travel image must express the feeling of a time and place and portray a land, its distinctive features or culture in its natural state. There are no geographical limitations. Close-up pictures of people or objects must include distinguishable environment. Techniques that add to, relocate, replace or remove any element of the original image, except by cropping, are not permitted. All adjustments must appear natural. Conversion to full monochrome is acceptable. Derivations, including infrared, are unacceptable. Definitions of Nature Nature photography is restricted to the use of the photographic process to depict observations from all branches of natural history, except anthropology and archeology, in such a fashion that a well informed person will be able to identify the subject material and to certify as to its honest presentation. The story telling value of a photograph must be weighed more than the pictorial quality while maintaining high technical quality. Human elements shall not be present, except where those human elements enhance the nature story. The presence of scientific bands, scientific tags or radio collars on wild animals is permissible. Photographs of artificially produced hybrid plants or animals, mounted specimens, or obviously set arrangements, are ineligible, as is any form of manipulation that alters the truth of the photographic statement. No techniques that add to, relocate, replace, or remove pictorial elements except by cropping are permitted. Techniques that enhance the presentation of the photograph without changing the nature story or the pictorial content are permitted. All adjustments must appear natural. Conversion to full monochrome is acceptable. Derivations, including infrared, are unacceptable. Definitions of black and white photography (monochrome) A black and white work fitting from very dark grey (black) to very clear grey (white) is a monochrome work with the varying shades of grey. A black and white work toned entirely in a single colour, will remain a monochrome work able to stand in the black and white category; such a work can be reproduced in black and white in the catalogue of a salon held under PSA and FIAP patronage. On the other hand, a black and white work modified by a partial toning or by the addition of one colour becomes a colour work (polychrome) and will stand in the colour category; such a work requires colour reproduction in the catalogue of a salon held under PSA and FIAP patronage.

3 Entries by Online Submission only Entrants are to submit their entries through on-line submission at Each entrant may submit work in all 5 sections, up to 4 entries per section. All entries must be in JPG file format. File size of individual image should not exceed 4MB. The image dimensions including any borders on the longer side is maximum 1920 pixels (for horizontal photos) and the vertical side is maximum 1080 pixels (for vertical photos). Smaller images are permitted but will be projected smaller on screen. An entrant s four images will be distributed throughout four rounds of judging for each section. The judging of the photos will be through Full HD TV screens. The images EXIF details for Nature Section must be intact for the images to be qualified for awards. Any image previously won any award in the past Singapore International Photography Award is not eligible for submission. Late entries shall not be judged. Entrant MUST NOT submit the same entry in other sections. The decision of the Organiser is final. No appeal shall be entertained. The submission of entries signifies the entrant s acceptance of the Conditions of Entry. The Organiser shall not be held responsible for any entry which is lost or damaged. The Organiser reserves the right to reproduce images for catalogue and any other publicity purposes. Images File Name Coding The file name coding, ONLY IN ENGLISH and in BLOCK letters, MUST NOT have more than 20 characters, and shall be in the following 3 groups and must be consistent. Entrants are encouraged to submit fees by PAYPAL to Salon Chairman, THE PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY OF SINGAPORE Cheque or bank draft will not be accepted, cash payment must be paid in US/Singapore dollars to our club house, the Organiser does not take any responsibility for cash sent by postal services. Any registered photographic society or club which has more than 10 of its members participating, with each member participating in at least TWO sections or more and submitting jointly can apply to the Organiser for a special 10% group discount. Awards and Acceptances This Salon is conducted in accordance with PSA and FIAP regulations. Acceptances and awards will be taken into account for the PSA Star Ratings, Who s Who in PSA, and credited towards the PSA and FIAP distinctions. Winning entries will be uploaded in the SIPA Website after judging. Notifications and score cards will be sent by , entrants may download them from SIPA website. A certificate for each Accepted or Awarded image will be issued to entrants by downloading from our SIPA website. SIPA s Local Best Entry Award in each section shall only be awarded to Singapore Citizen and Permanent Resident entrants.

4 Catalogue A photo catalogue presenting the award winning works and list of accepted entries will be sent to each overseas entrant by ordinary post. Additional copy of the SIPA Catalogue will be charged at US$20.00 per copy. Entrants may request the SIPA catalogue to be sent by Air Courier Services, however the courier charges of US$50.00 must be paid together with the entry fees in advance. The Organiser shall not be held responsible for any catalogue or awards which are lost or damaged during transit. Local Entrants will have to collect the catalogue and or awards from PSS Clubhouse personally. 5 New Exhibition Distinctions The distinctions are open for application when an Exhibitor has met the rules and conditions as described below:- 1. Exhibitor Bronze level - EBPSS Beginning from 2014, any Exhibitor(s) who had accumulated a total of 10 acceptances from SIPA exhibitions are eligible to apply for the BRONZE level EBPSS distinction. Exhibitors may use acceptances obtained from any sections in SIPA. In other words, combine acceptances achieved from CPID, Mono PID, PTD and/or ND. Any previously accepted image(s) from former SIPA exhibitions must not be used. 2. Exhibitor Silver level - ESPSS Any EBPSS title holder(s) may apply for the ESPSS distinction when the Exhibitor(s) have accumulated another 20 acceptances in SIPA exhibitions. A total of 30 SIPA acceptances are required for the SILVER level. The rules and conditions for application for Bronze level shall apply and Exhibitors must hold the EBPSS for a period of 1 year before they may apply. 3. Exhibitor Gold level - EGPSS Holders of ESPSS may apply for the EGPSS distinction when the Exhibitor(s) have accumulated another 30 acceptances from SIPA exhibitions. A total of 60 SIPA acceptances are required for GOLD level. The EGPSS is our highest order of recognition given to Exhibitors of SIPA. The general rules and conditions for application of Bronze and Silver levels shall apply and Exhibitors must hold the ESPSS for a period of 1 year before the Exhibitor(s) may apply for the EGPSS. When an Exhibitor is qualified to apply, he/she is required to prepare a spreadsheet using MS Excel indicating the (a) Year, (b) Section and (c) Title of the acceptances. The spreadsheet should be submitted together with an application form to PSS along with an application fee of SGD40 (local) or USD40 (overseas). The applicant should be an active member of PSS at the time of application. All successful applications will received a formal certificate along with a high quality medal accompanying the distinction. For more details, kindly the Salon Chairman at sipa@pss1950 org
