The Billy Scaife Guide to ICT Exam 2015 Mock Exam 1 (Answers) Mock Exam 2 (Answers)
1. The Smith family want a portrait done of the all the family together 2. The family arrange a PHOTO SHOOT with Image Reflections (a photography company). 3. They book a session using the company website on a booking form. 4. The company arrange a session and the family back to confirm everything is alright. 5. The photographers with the company use DIARY MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE (DMS) to keep themselves organised, so they know what they are doing each day and where they have to be and at what time. 6. The photographer arrives and takes photos. He\She brings a CAMERA, LAPTOP and other TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT. 7. Once the photo shoot is over, the photographer deletes any rubbish shots, then sends the folder (portfolio) of good ones to the company office using the INTERNET. 8. The images files are stored on the SERVER (big computer) at the office. The Customer Information is stored in a DATABASE. 9. The images are given a UNIQUE name (reference number). 10. A few days after the photo shoot, the family are sent some PROOF COPIES of the images to confirm they are happy and decide which of the images they would like to buy.
Types of Computer Desktop Computer Good Comfortable and easy to use, because of having a separate large screen, big keyboard and mouse Fast to process information Robust Lots of extra devices can be attached easily (camera, scanner, printer) Large capacity to store data, such as image files and documents Wired to the network (Ethernet cable) so files in the office or the on the internet can be accessed quickly Image Reflections are thinking about swapping the Desktop PCs with Tablets. Below are some of the good and bad points that need to be considered by the company Bad No battery, so relies on a constant power supply Not portable Tablet Computer Good Portable, so can be carried around easily and taken home to work Battery can be used when there is not electricity supply WiFi (Wireless). No wires to get tangled Bad Slower to process information Less storage space for files Fragile; dropping them hurts them! Keyboard not as good as a desktop keyboard to type with.
Check Box Booking Forms An internet form can be used for many things. You can use it for making bookings or sending information to a website Radio Button Drop down menu or list A FREE TEXT BOX would be needed to add names and addresses and other personal details. It s good to have the above features as it stops people making mistakes and saves time
UNIQUE KEY FIELD Databases: A database is used to keep track of information on a computer. A company might keep your details to contact you. Information FIELDS Customer RECORDS A DATABASE is useful because: You can SEARCH for information easily You can FILTER information, so you only see the bits you want to see You can give a UNIQUE KEY FIELD, so there is no confusion between people or things in your DATABASE
PERSONALISING WEBSITES COOKIES Small file that is placed on the person s computer. It sends information about what the person is looking at. It tracks what you are up to, so the owners of the website can personalise what you see The owners can make adverts (POP-UPS) appear that they think you will be interested in. It makes the website load more quickly and it remembers what you last looked at LEGAL RESTRICTIONS COMPANIES MUST INFORM USERS COOKIES ARE USED. COMPANIES MUST STATE WHAT THEY ARE. COMPANIES MUST SAY HOW TO REMOVE. SUBJECT TO DATA PROTECTION ACT. MORE DETAILS ON DATA PROTECTION ACT
DIARY MANAGEMENT SHARED CALENDARS Diary Management Software (DMS) is a type of software that can be used to organise a person or several people (a company). The company, IMAGE REFLECTIONS, use this type of software to organise their photographers who visit people to take pictures. The Diary is altered at the office and is synchronised when the photographer connects to it with his/her laptop or phone. What is it and what can you do with it? An electronic calendar showing days, weeks, months. Information such as appointments/meetings can be added to the days/week/months These appointments can be shared with other people so they know where you are and what you are doing You can have several calendars (work, personal), so you can separate your work life and social life You can set alarms (notifications) to remind you about things You can organise meetings and invite other people who use the same calendar (shared company calendar) Synchronising with a phone or laptop keeps the photographer constantly up to date with appointments

CAMERA IMAGE VIEWER DIGITAL IMAGE VIEWER OUTPUT (INPUT IF TOUCHSCREEN) FLASH OUTPUT (PROGRAMMED FLASH) ISO SENSOR INPUT FUNCTION BUTTONS INPUT SHUTTER BUTTON INPUT LENS SD CARD READER
Laptop: Good Portable (easy to carry). Can run for a short time on battery. Convenient to work with when out of the office. Has lots of built-in devices (Camera, WiFi, Speakers, Microphone). Bad Fragile (break if dropped or not handled carefully). Can lose the information if not backed-up regularly. microphone INPUT WEBCAM INPUT SCREEN OUTPUT (INPUT ALSO IF TOUCHSCREEN) KEYBOARD INPUT SPEAKERS OUTPUT TOUCHPAD INPUT
IMAGE FILE FORMATS Image files can be saved/made in 2 ways: PROPRIETARY: Can only be opened in a certain type of image software RAW: The basic information from a camera that cannot be viewed without some specialist software. You can alter lots of detailed information when it is in this format. PSD: Can only be edited using Photoshop software SPP: Can only be edited using Serif Photo Plus OPEN: Can be saved and opened in most image editing programs JPEG: Most common file type used for images. Can be opened by all image editing programs PNG: An image file used in Macro Media Fireworks. It has layers that can be altered separately to modify an image. GIF: A small image file that supports frame animation (moving image) TIFF: A high quality image file. It s a big file and requires a lot of storage to save. BMP: A older image file type. Quite a big file. Not used that much now, with people preferring to use JPEG
HARDWARE/SOFTWARE- PHOTOGRAPHER HARDWARE CAMERA (guess!) BATTERIES (to power the camera) TRIPOD (to place the camera on to keep it steady) LENS (can be changed depending on the type of photo to be taken) SD CARD (inside the camera to save the images to) LAPTOP (so the family and the photographer can see the images taken and decide which are best DATA CABLE (to connect the camera to the laptop) CARD READER (the SD card can b removed from the camera and read on a laptop using this) SOFTWARE PHOTO EDITING SOFTWARE (to alter the images when on the laptop) WEB BROWSER (to access the photographers website or online calendar)
IMAGE MANIPULATION SOFTWARE WHAT IS IT? CROPPING REFERS TO THE REMOVAL OF THE OUTER PARTS OF AN IMAGE HUE REFERS TO A SOLID COLOUR YELLOW, ORANGE, GREEN, BLUE, VIOLET AND PURPLE SATURATION THE INTENSITY OF COLOR IN THE IMAGE THE COPYING AND PASTING OF CERTAIN PARTS OF AN IMAGE USED TO RESTORE/CHANGE OTHER AREAS ADJUSTING CONTRAST MEANS CHANGING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIGHT AND DARK ADJUSTING WHITE BALANCE MEANS ENSURING WHITE IMAGES IN REAL LIFE APPEAR WHITE IN YOUR DIGITAL IMAGE TECHNIQUE SHARPNESS NOISE RED EYE REMOVER WHAT IS IT? ADJUSTING THE SHARPNESS OF AN IMAGE MEANS CHANGING THE SHARPNESS OF THE EDGES OF OBJECTS WITHIN AN IMAGE REMOVING SPECKLE WITHIN AN IMAGE REMOVES RED EYE OFF IMAGES, CREATED BY LIGHT HITTING BLOOD VESSELS AT BACK OF EYE
Transferring Data Is widely available and cheap to use. It is good for a small number of small files. Cloud/File sharing website: Is also widely available and good for sharing large files. It can take a long time to send large files from a computer to a suitable website, where the files are to be shared. The speed of the connection from the computer to the website you are sending to is key to the speed of this process. Connecting to the Internet To use the Internet you must first connect your device to a network that will allow you to access the Internet WIRED OPTIONS VIA ETHERNET CABLE WIRELESS OPTIONS VIA WIRELESS DEVICE/3G OR 4G PROS CONS PROS CONS Secure Fast Requires a connection to a router with a suitable connection Requires a cable, so can break Widely available Fast Convenient Possible poor connection No mobile signal Might not be secure (open) Could require a security key (WEP, WPA)
Storing the images CURRENT SYSTEM A REFERENCE IS MADE UP OF THE FIRST FOUR LETTERS OF A SURNAME OF A PERSON WHO BOOKED THE SESSION AND FOUR DIGITS BASED ON THE ORDER OF THE PHOTO BEING TAKEN PROBLEM!!! What if lots of people with the same surname book a session? Lots of mix-up of images = Company looks daft when they send out images of the wrong people to the wrong address How can this be improved? Store all images in a database with a Unique Reference OR Key Field, doing this will make sure all images are correctly linked to the correct people LOOK AT THE SLIDE ON DATABASES FOR SOME HELP!! Backing the images up Images need to be backed up just in case the machine they are one breaks. Do this by: Save to a portable hard drive (stores a lot, but can still break) Save to a website (The cloud): Can be accessed anywhere in the World. Needs an Internet connection Save to a pen drive (small capacity, can be lost and broken).
Methods of providing the customers with proof copies of the images HARD COPY (printed)(same AS YOUR SCHOOL PHOTOS) PROS PHYSICAL PRINTOUT OLDER GENERATION WHO DON T HAVE INTERNET ACCESS STILL ABLE TO VIEW IMAGES. CONS COSTS MONEY COSTS POSTAGE DIGITAL (as an album on the Image Reflections website) PROS QUICK TO VIEW ALLOWS HIGH QUALITY IMAGES TO BE SHOWCASED CHEAP TO PRODUCE CAN BE PASSWORD PROTECTED CAN BE VIEWED AT OWN LEISURE CONS OPEN TO IMAGES BEING COPIED/EDITED PROBLEMS WITH COPYRIGHT/DATA PROTECTION REQUIRES INTERNET CONNECTION
Image reflections are worried that the images they store in the office are vulnerable to be lost. Suggest a way they might back the images up.
