2 Naila Art Gallery Located in Saudi Arabia s capital Riyadh, Naila Art Gallery is an independent and innovative gallery showcasing work by both emerging and established artists. The Gallery itself is unique in the Saudi art community as an infinitely reconfigurable space able to host international exhibitions, local shows, and art symposiums alike. While the Gallery is still young, it has been host to a number of local and international exhibitions, including non-profit exhibitions promoting art and culture such as 25 years of Arab Creativity from Paris Institute du Monde Arabe, and Out of Arabia: Landscape throughout the Arabian Peninsula in collaboration with the British Council. Solo exhibitions at the gallery have included Zaza 2013 by Muhammad Zaza; Splendors of Calligraphy & Illuminations from the Islamic Arts by Abdulrahman Al Soliman; Imad Taher s solo exhibition, Muse ; France-based Syrian artist Ahmad Moualla s solo exhibition, Ripples: Deriving Secrets. In 2014, The Gallery has exhibited Dutch-artist Caroline Havers s collection, Sands and Serendipity, which explored the artist s new Saudi setting; a collection of work by Egyptian abstract artist Farouk Hosny; as well as Circles of Memory, Syrian-artist Toufic Hamidi s first solo exhibition. Beyond exhibitions and international collaborations, Naila Art Gallery represents a number of emerging and established local and international artists, including Muhammad Zaza, Toufic Al- Hamidi, Fahad Al-Niemah, Abdullah Al Marzook, Ghada Al-Hassan, and Ayman Zedani. Naila Art Gallery also has an established education program in place, which includes art symposiums, workshops and seminars for both artists and the public. Naila Art Gallery is also committed to helping foster artistic talent with an established fund. Future collaborations in the upcoming year include both international and local creative partners. 4 is a Syrian artist, who was born and raised in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in He attended Aleppo University to pursue his interest in art and graduated with a degree in Fine and Applied Arts in 2010, and was later worked as a teacher assistant from 2010 to Zaza s tends to work on large-scale canvases, with amorphous figures and a poignant color scheme reigning supreme. Zaza work redefines the concept of ugliness and challenges the idea of havoc and chaos. His large work forces the viewer to focus not only on the general images, but to pay attention to the epicenter of the work itself with all of its details. Zaza has also worked with video production, working in collaboration with musicians to bring his sketches to life. 5 Artist Statement The path and the movement of the universe does not happen out of coincidence; it is always in motion and we see in each particle as a result either of that awareness or the lack of it. Coincidence is a physical, and has the potential to have a form and occupy a space and move in all directions. Where to consider coincidence? With the movement of time into the future all shapes from one source in understanding through their mechanism. For example, by separating or tearing apart two entities, we have the option of creating a something brilliant visually, beautiful or ugly, but still harmonious. It is the beauty of the universe with its different worlds that are not aware of each other while still moving toward a common form. The role of the mind is only imagination in the vision of countless of unseen pictures. There is no coincidence in the narrative. When I pass my sight on the present I am governed by its dimension and the habit until I create this gap where elements move in it. It is in this space I reform the shape and adhere together all these topography elements. I try to adjust the flow of color and the shape of protrusions. When I draw something I save myself from the tough rhythm of this nature on its surface. It is through these formalism models that I understand very well that human being is a cell of the universe and his shape forms him. In this work I make the scene part of the viewer he entrants it with dimensions that resemble to his, and a shape that rise endless dialogue. I adjust all directions trying to floating and moving. Not a single detail is lost when I draw coincidence. 8 9
