4 The Museum The Museum of Art of Chianciano hosts a series of collections ranging from Neolithic and Asiatic to Contemporary art. There are approximately a thousand works on display. Visitors are able to view paintings and sculptures by artists such as Tom Nash, Salvador Dali, Sir Henry Moore, Frances Turner, Mario Schifano, Damien Hirst, Brian Willsher and Albert Louden, drawings by the likes of Magritte, Guttuso and Munch; historical works from Royal Collections and original etchings by masters such as Dürer and Rembrandt. The museum is known for organising annual international events, including the Chianciano International Art Award and the Biennale of Chianciano. 7 The Critic Timothy Warrington was born in Birmingham in 1944 and is a critical writer and curator based in London. Warrington s career has taken him all around the world in the search for art to exhibit in London. He was part of the organisation that hosted the largest and most important exposition of Bulgarian art ever curated outside Bulgaria, showing 300 artists. The exhibition was hosted in collaboration with the Bulgarian Embassy in London and was inaugurated by the Bulgarian Ambassador Mr Stancoff. The Slovenian Printmakers Exhibition was another reminder of the wonderful talent that Timothy brought to London, artists that are recognised and respected all around the world. Italian Views at the Lord Leighton Museum, curated by Timothy, was also a great success and a spotlight into contemporary Italian Art from institutions such as the Academy of Fine Art in Florence, Academy of Fiorino in Florence and The Academy of Fine Art in Rome. Warrington has curated numerous books and writes opinions and exhibition critiques in the UK and the USA. Notably, he was responsible for the main publication related to Brian Willsher s Bronzes, an artist who taught at the Tate and was praised by Sir Henry Moore as an artistic genius. Timothy s critical writing is very sophisticated - he has the power to translate the artist s thoughts to the viewer with extreme clarity and competence. He was a member of the jury of Chianciano International Art Award alongside people like Gerard Bruneau who started his career with Andy Warhol. 7

9 The Artist In 1963, contemporary artist Lydia Panart was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Panart lived and studied in this artistic hub for three decades, which has a significant impact on her appreciation and passion towards the arts and culture. Inspired by the beauty of its European-influenced architecture, Panart studied at the National University of Buenos Aires, and graduated as an architect in In the course of her professional practice, she took additional classes in Art History, Semiotics and Aesthetic Theory. Panart has participated in numerous Central and South American juried exhibitions and travelled internationally, including Europe and Brazil. Everything she had experienced along the way contributed to the progression of her painting from figurative to abstract representations. In 1998, Panart moved to Canada with her family. She integrated quickly into the local artistic community as an active painter and instructor. Panart has received many awards, including the Mississauga Art Council s Visual Arts Award, in In the same year she participated in a group exhibit in Bogota, Colombia. Her international exposure includes invitations to art symposia, among them the EMAAR 3rd International Painting Symposium in Dubai, UAE, and the Maiden Tower 5th International Art Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan. Panart represented Canada and Argentina respectively in these important annual events which were organized to promote local historic and artistic culture welcoming artists from all over the world in an exchange of ideas and expressions. Panart also participated in art exhibitions promoted by the Argentine Embassy and the Consulate General of Argentina in Toronto. Her large solo exhibit Huellas in Toronto brought her a great deal of exposure which led to invitations to exhibits in Canadian and American venues. As part of Toronto s hosting the 2015 Pan and Parapan American Games, Panart was invited to participate in Art of The Americas exhibit, which included the works of internationally renowned artists. Panart was also honoured with an award for ArtTour International Magazine s Top 60 Masters of Contemporary Art 2016 in Montagnac, France. In addition, she was invited to participate in Art Expo New York 2016, Florence Design Week, held at the Grand Palazzo Borghese, Red Dot Miami as part of Art Basel Miami, and most recently the London Art Biennale Panart has promoted the arts at many institutions including The McMichael Canadian Art Collection and the Art Gallery of Ontario. Her philosophy is that art should be accessible to everybody rather than be a privilege. Panart regularly donates her work to charitable art auctions for fundraising purposes. In 2016, she was nominated for TD Bank s Most Influential Hispanic Canadians. 9

11 The Critique In each individual artwork, a multitude of vivid clashing colours and alluring depictions of texture simultaneously contradict and conform, whilst appearing to pulsate and breathe on the canvas. Observing the creations by Lydia Panart, the complexity of these works is astonishing as they provoke an overwhelming emotional impact from the enthralled viewer. Panart s thought-provoking compositions, that inspire us to delve deeper into our subconscious, are redolent of the Great Masters of Colour, such as Cézanne who once stated that colour is the place where our brain and the universe meet. From the intense contrasts in Pierre Bonnard s landscapes to Hans Hofmann s modern gems, Panart recalls and harmonises Post-Impressionist tendencies, based on fierce hues induced by sunlight, with Avant-Garde theories related to the American Colour Field movement and its atmospheric immersive quality. Panart electrifies each colour area with dynamic, energetic and vivid brushwork composed of complementary shades, creating dominant fields of flat surfaces suddenly fractured by distinct drops of colour sporadically spread across the canvas. Philosophically speaking, this Canadian artist emphasises the meditative, intellectual and meaningful result of her compositions, focusing on a conceptual implication, albeit exquisitely emotional. Overall, Panart s artworks show an impressive consistency of form and balance, united in a visual rhythm that unravels before us: the spectator is enchanted by a superb alternation between solids and voids, silence and noise, stillness and action. Authentic and ethereal hues become central characters in the complex plot that is endlessly transpiring on the canvas, thus revealing boundless capacity for interpretation. Panart s creations do not solely embody pigments, although the interactions between colour remain integral in her reduced formats. Sensual and deeply expressive conceptions challenge one s perceptions by unfolding into complex structures, and evolving into a sublime mosaic of polychromatic textures. So forth, Panart s paintings reveal the innermost essence of an introspective personality, in a space where the viewer can connect with something personal, and perhaps mythic, which exceeds the limitations of imagery and colour. Dense areas of unbroken surface on the flat picture plane contain a myriad of gestural articulations, composite dots and fervent hues that illuminate the surrounding shades and tones. The observer becomes an active part in the recognition of the infinite possible interpretations hidden in Panart s immersive and fluid contours that permit a wonderful inception of pure emotions.
