2 Learning Targets 1. I can describe, analyze and reflect on the work of a contemporary ceramic sculptor by presenting a PowerPoint of their work and my research to my peers. 2. I can connect my own sculpture design to the work of the contemporary ceramic sculptor in my process, presentation, surfacing or concept. 3. I can create a detailed drawing of my idea and execute my idea in the form of a ceramic sculpture that illustrates an element of my personality either abstractly or representationally. This can be something you love or dislike about yourself (ie. Anxious / Funny / Worrier / Afraid of / Introvert.)

6 STEP 1: Get Inspired Research PROFESSIONAL ceramic artists that interest you. ONLY use museum, gallery, university or artist websites for research. YOU WILL NEED TO INCLUDE A SLIDE OF WEBSITES UTILIZED. NO ONE CAN DO THE SAME ARTIST! Talk to each other. NO EXCEPTIONS. The artist you choose must: Create sculptural work, not purely functional ware. Be alive.currently. Have a website and/or gallery representation. USEFUL WEBSITES TO GET YOU STARTED: **TIP TO GET YOU STARTED: Going to school for art? Look up professors working at your school and find their artist websites**
7 STEP 2: Create a PowerPoint Create a 10 slide PowerPoint with the following: SLIDE 1: Title Slide with the following information: Artist s Name Year of Birth Where they are from Your name SLIDES 2-9 : 8 examples of the artist s sculptural work in chronological order with the following information: Title of Work Material(s) Size Year Created SLIDE 10: List of websites/resources utilized completed PowerPoints to rabrown@cbsd.org
8 STEP 3: Present Your Artist PRESENT TO PEERS FRIDAY APRIL 29 TH. PowerPoint must be ed to me prior to Friday April 29 TH to receive credit. (follow formatting directions in previous slide) Be prepared to discuss your artist s work and describe the following: > their artistic process > work > evolution of work / process > common themes / concepts represented in their work > why you are interested in this artist s work specifically > connect their work to your sculpture idea
9 STEP 4: Rough Draft LEARNING TARGET: I can create a detailed drawing of my idea and execute my idea in the form of a ceramic sculpture that illustrates an element of my personality either abstractly or representationally. SCULPTURE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Pre drawn in detail with prior approval before building (at least ½ scale). Must be sculptural -> non functional. Can be no shorter than 12 and no taller than 24 (unfired). Sculpture must utilize the design elements of movement, repetition and line. Every side must be considered and elements of interests added to create movement around the entire work. Well crafted, light weight and free standing (balanced) or hung from a wall. Must be low fire glazed Must represent an element of your personality (abstract or representational) YOUR OWN ORIGINAL IDEA! No copying from artists or people found online.
10 STEP 5: Build! LEARNING TARGET: I can connect my own sculpture design to the work of the contemporary ceramic sculptor in my process, presentation, surfacing or concept and execute my idea in the form of a ceramic sculpture that illustrates an element of my personality either abstractly or representationally.
