ADELE RENAULT Les Hommes Intègres
Adele Renault was born in 1988 into a family of musicians, growing up on a farm in the Belgian Ardennes. At age 14 she traveled abroad alone; lived in Venezuela on an exchange, then two years in Brighton, England. Following studies at the Académie royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and a rich and varied creative career (graphic arts, painting, drawing, graffiti, etc.), she decided to devote herself entirely to pictorial art.
Kambia 2015 Oil on linen 60 x 80 cm
Tanaouma 2015 Oil on linen 60 x 80 cm

The artist is fascinated by the inconspicuous beauty of every day objects and subjects. She observes closely those and that not considered worthy of a second look. She paints portraits of faces, the elderly, the homeless and pigeons - which she picked out as a central theme of her first show Pigeon Voyeur at art is just a four letter word Gallery Soest/ Germany in September in a realistic style.
Nahal 2016 Oil on linen 60 x 80 cm
Kenedji 2016 Oil on linen 60 x 80 cm
Her art is distinguished by a realism whose sincerity is equalled only by its purity. A purity intensified by systematic overexposure in her portraits. Considered a photographic error, in this context, overexposure is the fruit of a deliberate move. The portraits series have no ambition to expose any social injustice. Well beyond that, they underline by their materiality and evocative force an elegance that is omnipresent and accessible to all.

Nampiéra 2016 Oil on linen 60 x 80 cm
Tekeledjie 2016 Oil on linen 60 x 80 cm
In 2015 Adele Renault spent a month in Burkina Faso. With a local friend she traveled through Le pays des hommes intègres (The country of genuine people) the nickname of Burkina Faso and visited many different villages meeting, talking and photographing people, especially the elderlies. Adele s repetitive use of overexposure gets an even deeper meaning under those latitudes where the sun is over present.

Koufien 2015 Oil on linen 60 x 80 cm
Héma Foubie 2016 Oil on linen 60 x 80 cm

Renault s choice of painting the whole body of work in monochrome was a bold one giving the rich array of colors of the fabrics, the people and the surroundings. But she was strongly inspired by the color of the earth the country is covered with red dust, which settles on everything. The shades of red changes from village to village some have more of a yellow tint, some more of a red tint.
Sibane 2015 Oil on linen 60 x 80 cm
Heman Ditjian 2016 Oil on linen 60 x 80 cm
Mains Intègres carat gold leaf and oil on linen 120 x 100 cm each
By transferring this variety of red colors to her paintings, the artist takes the beholder on a guided journey to the country which she loves so much. It isn t just the face which tells the story of the person. It is also the color which provides an inside into this foreign country, into the history of the villages and the people who live in their own rhythm of life.
