1 Summer Leaves Baby Cardigan - Rena's version (updated with corrections 16 April 2015) Sizes using 3.50 mm needles will fit newborn - 3 months using 4.00 mm needles will fit 3-6 months Materials 100 grams Double Knitting yarn UK no 9/3.5mm/US 5 knitting needles 5 long stitch holders 2 buttons Ribbon or crochet chain to go through neck holes Abbreviations: K knit,p purl, gst garter stitch, k2tog knit next two stitches together (this will give a slant to right), k1sl1psso-knit 1 slip one pass slip stitch over (creates slant to the left..), yfwd/yo - yarn forward/yarn over. Pattern is worked from neck down. to keep a neat edge on the button bands slip the first stitch on every row and knit the last stitch.

2 Note: There are two different neck bands I prefer the Alternative one the ribbon holes are better and the first hole you make is the first button hole Cast on 70 sts neckband 1 Rows 1-4 knit in garter stitch slip the first stitch at beginning of each row (I made a button hole at end of 3rd row...knit to last 3sts then yfwd k2tog k1) Neckband 2 * Alternative neck band on 3 rd row K1* yfwd K2tog* all along the row and this can be the holes for the ribbon, if this is the choice then on 5 th row work as Sl 1 K4 Purl60 K5 then start on leaf pattern row 1 * NOTE: The bands are 5 gst either end so begin each row with Slip1 Knit4 and end with Knit 5 Note: These two rows only apply if your doing Neckband 1 Next row Sl1 k4 for the band then *yfwd k2tog k4* repeat to the last 5sts then yfwd k2tog knit 3 (this is row for ribbon so this row does use one stitch of the button band) Next row Sl1 k4, purl 60,K5 (remember to slip the first st of band) now begin leaf pattern Leaf Pattern Row 1: Sl 1 K4 * k1,yfwd k1,yfwd k1, k2tog* repeat to last 5 and knit them for the band Row 2 and all even rows Sl1 k4 purl to last 5 and k5 Row 3: Sl 1 K4*K2, yfwd k1, yfwd,k2 P1* repeat to last last 5 sts K5 Row 5: Sl 1 K4* K3,yfwd,K1,yfwd K3,P1* repeat to last last 5 sts K5 Row 7: Sl 1 K4 *K4, yfwd,k1,yfwd, K4,P1* repeat to last last 5 sts K5 Row 9: Sl 1 K4*K5,yfwd, K1,yfwd, K5,P1* repeat to last last 5 sts K5 Row 11: Sl 1 K4*K6,yfwd,K1,yfwd,K6, P1 * repeat to last last 5 sts K5 Row 13: Sl 1 K4*yfwd, slip one knit 1 psso (dec made)k11, knit 2 tog, yfwd K1* repeat to end Row 15: Sl 1 K4,K1,*yfwd, slip one knit 1 psso K9, knit 2 tog, yfwd K3* repeat to end (last sts will be yfwd K2 then k5 for band Row 17: Sl 1 K4,K2,*yfwd, slip one knit 1 psso K7, knit 2 tog, yfwd K5*repeat to end (ending will be yfwd K3 then K5 for band

3 Row 19: Sl 1 K4,K3,*yfwd, slip one knit 1 psso K5, knit 2 tog, yfwd K7*repeat to end (ending yfwd K4 then k5 for band Row 21: Sl 1 K4,K4,*yfwd, slip one knit 1 psso K3, knit 2 tog, yfwd K9*repeat to end(ending will be yfwd k5 then k5 for band Row 23: Sl 1 K4,K5 *yfwd, slip one knit 1 psso (dec made)k1, knit 2 tog, yfwd K11*ending yfwd K6 for band Row 25: Sl 1 K4, K6 *yfwd, slip on knit 2tog psso, yfwd k13* repeat ending with yfwd k5 of band Row 26: Sl 1 K4 purl to last 5 sts and knit them for the band. When finished knitting the yoke will have 202 stitches in total (including the 5stitch edge on both sides). From here we divide and separate sleeves and front / back: fronts and back will be worked together as one pc. Divide work as follows 30 sts on holder for right front(includes sts for band) 40 sts on holder for sleeve 62 sts on holder for back 40 sts on holder for sleeve 30 sts on holder for left front (includes sts for band) Sleeves take set of 40 sts from holder and place back on knitting needle Knit 4 rows Stocking stitch(lengthen here is you want long sleeves knit a further 26 rows) *if knitting long sleeves I stopped after row 23 (so I would have purl side facing me) and I made a row of holes before the fluted edge by doing gst for 1 row (to make a ridge) then on 2 nd row k1 yfwd k2tog to end, 3 rd row Knit then continue with fluted cuff* make fluted edging on sleeve please note that on the pattern rows the last repeat will end k1 P1 this is correct as it allows the fluted edge to come neatly together when you sew the sleeve seam Row1: k1 p2 *(k1 yo k1 p3)* Repeat to end Next and every alternate row*purl purl stitches and yo stitches and knit knit sts* Row 3: k1 p2 (k2 yo k1 p3) repeat to end Row 5: k1 p2 (k3 yo k1 p3) repeat to end Row 7: k1 p2 (k4 yo k1 p3) repeat to end Row 9: k1 p2 (k5 yo k1 p3) repeat to end Row 11 : k1 p2 (k6 yo k1 p3) repeat to end
