2 OVERVIEW The 2016 SELECT L.A. Investment Summit is Southern California s premier international trade event that brings together global investors with business and governmental leaders from Southern California to facilitate and secure foreign direct investment (FDI), and gain exclusive insights on market trends and opportunities in the Los Angeles region. This summit provides key components of what every foreign investment requires: detailed research and investment opportunities. This 2 nd annual summit will be held on June at the JW Marriott in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. Los Angeles is home to United States largest county economy, with an annual GDP of over $664 billion. With 88 fantastic cities and over 100 unincorporated areas within Los Angeles County, investment opportunities are unrivaled in the nation. Furthermore, the more than 18 million consumers that live in the 5 counties within the Greater Los Angeles Region create a stable and attractive market place for businesses from around the world. In recent years, we have witnessed numerous international firms open up new operations and their North American Headquarters in the Los Angeles region, accounting for billions of dollars of investment. Over 9,000 foreign-owned enterprises have already selected Southern California as their home in the U.S., and we are seeing more entering our region every single day. The needs of international companies are unique, and a holistic approach must be carefully developed to navigate the business channels in Los Angeles. This the essence of SELECT L.A. The summit will provide international and local companies with a comprehensive understanding of the investment ecosystem throughout the region with actionable insights that can guide key business decisions. SELECT L.A. offers the perfect environment to create and foster new relationships with individuals who are responsible for turning a conversation into an investment opportunity. Just as important, is understanding the local processes and protocol to ensure successful transactions within the diverse industries and verticals in the Los Angeles region. SELECT L.A. is designed to be a prelude to the third annual SelectUSA Summit, scheduled for June 19-21, 2016 in Washington D.C. The SelectUSA Investment Summit is hosted by President Barack Obama and the US Department of Commerce, and attracts over 2,000 participants from more than 70 international markets. We expect over 100 international investors who are on their way to SelectUSA to stop over in Los Angeles to learn more about the region, and network with hundreds of local business leaders and companies. The World Trade Center Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation will jointly host the summit, and will work to present an array of opportunities to match international investors with local partners, such as table exhibits, one-on-one interactions, seminars and panels led by local and international executives, and an interactive match-making session. Furthermore, regional leaders and influencers will be on hand to interact with at the summit, as well as the VIP Reception taking place the night before. The panel will be comprised of experienced local real estate experts and executives, in addition to foreign investors that have deployed capital throughout the region. 12:15pm 2pm: Luncheon - Keynote Speaker & Plenary Session 12:45pm 1:15pm: Keynote Speech City of Los Angeles Mayor - Eric Garcetti The 42 nd Mayor of Los Angeles City, Eric Garcetti, will discuss investment trends and patterns in the region. As the 2 nd largest city in the United States, Los Angeles continues to be the premiere destination for foreign investment. It is paramount we understand rapid market changes with a critical eye towards capital intensity, deal flows, and the interactions with governmental policies and regulations. 1:15pm 2pm: Plenary: Rethinking Mega Infrastructure Developments in Los Angeles: How International Companies are Disrupting Traditional Development Patterns Top officials from Los Angeles World Airports, Port of Los Angeles, Port of Long Beach and Los Angeles Metro will engage in a thoughtful discussion on the ongoing infrastructure projects in the region totaling billions of dollars in investments. These mega projects have a significant impact on international business and trade for not only Los Angeles, but for the entire nation. The officials will describe how the enormous investment into local infrastructure will keep LA as the nation s most attractive destination for international trade, and how international firms are playing an increasingly significant role in this field. 2pm 3pm: Plenary: Trends in Technology Deal flow, Structure, and Capital Sourcing A discussion surrounding recent foreign investment trends in the region s burgeoning tech industry will illuminate specific deals, their process and outcomes. For example, Tencent Holding s acquisition of Riot Games, Faraday s $1 billion investment into electric vehicle production, and Alibaba s $200 milllion Snapchat investment signal significant changes in the regional tech investment ecosystem. Unique perspectives on what the future holds for this industry and its capital sourcing will be presented. 3 5pm: Matchmaking Session The culmination of the day s program will be one-on-one sessions between local companies and foreign investors. International attendees will be able to select private, 20 minute meetings with companies of their choice. The matchmaking session provides personal interactions with top executives and decision makers and
