He scored a 219 to best the field of 22 entries and was pleased with his horse s performance. It was the first time showing this three-year-old. I mainly wanted to see how he would do, as he was green when I got him. I had to play catch up but I could tell he had talent. He was somewhat of a challenge to train. I wondered if he would be unfocused as we went into the arena but we made a solid run and he will be stepping up from here continuing on to the High Roller Reining Classic and then on to Oklahoma City. There was a tie for Reserve Championship in the Level 4. Mike McEntire on Holly MAQ Gun by Hollywoodstinseltown out of Gunners Doll (by Colonels Smoking Gun) owned by Sari La Maqueline and Sean McBurney on Rsure Shot Of Whizkey by Whizkey N Diamonds out of Gunners Sureshot (by Colonels Smoking Gun) owned by Rhodes River Ranch. They scored a and won over $4,000. Sean McBurney also claimed the Level 3 Futurity Championship on Rsure Shot Of Whizkey scoring a and taking home over $3,000 for that victory. The Reserve title in the Level 3 went to Tom Foran on Select Code by Electric Code out of Lotsa Little Peppy (by Doc O Lena Twist) owned by Copus Performance Horses, Inc. in Santa Barbara, California. They scored a and won over $2,000. Mark Harnden topped the field of Level 2 riders, marking the top score of 212 on Shooting For Chics by Colonels Smoking Gun out of Gay Chic Olena (by Smart Chic Olena) owned by McClellan Quarter Horses LLC. Reserve honors in the Level 2 went to Randy Paul on Nite Eyes by Gunners Special Nite out of Angel Eyes Wrangler (by Starlights Wrangler) with a score of 211. There were two winners in the last minutes of the $7,500 added Non Pro Level 4 Futurity. Jeanne Levine on Whizen Thru The Cash by Big Chex To Cash out of Trouble Lena Whiz (by Topsail Whiz) owned by Bud Boyle. Jennifer Gilliam on Boom Box Dancer by Boom Shernic out of Dancer Nic (by Tinsel Nic) owned by Jennifer Gilliam herself. They scored a and earned a little over $3,000. Jennifer felt confident about her horse going into the arena, I ve had her since December. She is the sweetest horse ever, very easy to ride, and she did everything I asked. I was also very happy for Jeanne. We both ride with Mike and I was just happy that we both did so well. Jeanne on Whizen Thru The Cash and Jennifer on Boom Box Dancer also tied as Champions in the Intermediate Non Pro with their scores of 215.5, each taking over $1,000 home for that victory.

Andrea Fappani Wins the Reining By The Bay Open Derby on Mr Electric Spark Again! For the second consecutive year the Champion of the $35,000-added Lucas Oil Open Level 4 Derby was Mr Electric Spark by Jacs Electric Spark out of Sailin Rowdy (by Rowdy Yankee) and his rider Andrea Fappani. Fappani scored to best the field of 15 other Level 4 riders, adding another $11,000 to his earnings. Despite Fappani having only been with Mr Electric Spark a few weeks, the two went into the arena and won it again! Fappani was confident on Mr Electric Spark. He is strong in his circles, he holds the ground really well, and his maneuvers are consistent. The ground is slick so he had a hard time balancing and he could not go as fast as he could but his turn arounds were excellent. The Reserve Championship in the Level 4 went to Tracer Gilson on Chexmaster by Nu Chex To Cash out of Snip O Gun (by One Gun) scoring a 226 and earning over $9,000. Chexmaster is owned by Joe and Karen Moran in Laguna Hills, California. The 2015 Quarter Horse News Tulsa Reining Classic Stallion Service Auction kicked off August 5 with a select lineup of premier reining stallions available for bid. With more stallions scheduled to be added in the days to come, the total has already exceeded 40 of the industry s top sires. The online stallion auction will conclude on September 4. Tulsa Reining Classic show management team leader Cheryl Cody said, The stallion auction has grown each year, both in number of stallions and in the quality of this elite group. The management and staff of the Tulsa Reining Classic appreciate the support of the owners of these stallions. Colleen McQuay, chairman of the Global Reining Sport August 5, 2015 Page 8 Group, which produces the show, echoed her appreciation and added, We acquired the horse show three years ago, because we believe it is a very important part of our industry and especially our breeding programs. NRHA BYLAW AMENDMENTS & EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEMBER ELECTIONS GO TO THE MEMBERSHIP AUGUST 10! Starting on August 10, members of the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) will begin voting on important bylaw amendments that appointed task forces and committees have been hard at work developing in order to streamline Association business, create efficiencies within the organizational structure and adopt established best practices of governance. These bylaw amendments are a result of long-term planning sessions initiated in 2014 and are intended to allow NRHA and its elected leaders to better serve the membership throughout the calendar year. NRHA President, Rick Clark commented, NRHA is constantly looking to improve its services, streamline workflow patterns and enhance opportunities to better assist and better communicate with members. Reviewing our bylaws each year allows us as a membership to ask the question are we doing the best we can, or is there a better way to conduct business? Clark further explained how proud he was regarding the positive response received by the membership and is glad NRHA members are always willing to go the extra mile to ensure their Association is as efficient as possible and follows best practices for non-profit boards. In an effort to be more transparent to the membership and to ensure all interested members are properly informed, NRHA has provided a detailed factsheet available to the public at nrha.com/bylawchanges highlighting the proposed amendments and giving very specific examples as to how these amendments will allow NRHA s leadership to better serve the membership. In addition to making critical changes to the NRHA bylaws, NRHA members will have the opportunity to elect three members to the Executive Committee. For the convenience of the membership, bios on the Executive Committee candidates are available in the member s only section online. I am very proud of NRHA s committees, task forces and staff for taking the extra step this year to inform the membership of the Executive Committee candidates and how making these amendments brings NRHA to today s association standards by effectively reviewing the configuration of our organization, evaluating the use of technology and taking a fresh approach to the governance structure to conduct business. This is an exciting time for NRHA, and I personally hope all members exercise their right to vote, added Clark. Both the bylaw amendments and Executive Committee voting are conducted by a third party company via eballot, August 5, 2015 Page 9

10 so every member will have an equal and fair opportunity to cast their vote between August 10 and September 9, Any questions regarding the bylaw amendments, Executive Jim Blumer Spring Brook Twp, Pennsylvania I was born and live in Moscow, Pennsylvania, and was educated as an accountant prior to a career in health care accounting. I am currently a tax accountant and horse breeder for more than 20 years. I also employ trainers at our Pennsylvania and Oklahoma ranches. We have raised and trained horses to compete in both NRHA weekend & aged events since 1992, utilizing this experience will be helpful in serving on the NRHA board. My NRHA experience includes serving as chair of the Finance Committee for five years, as an NRHA Directors for three years and as an Executive Committee member for two years and currently chair the Judging Working Environment Task Force. My involvement came about because, like many of you, I love the sport of Reining! If elected to the Executive Committee, I will utilize and apply my experience in show management, breeding reining horses, coaching youth, etc. to guide my votes and decisions. My goals include always protecting the NRHA brand, striving to open communication between the NRHA board, staff and members. I will suggest new rule changes to protect the longevity of our horses. I will always do my utmost to maintain and improve the quality judging system already in place at NRHA. I will work to empower NRHA staff to do the best job they are able, and promote Futurity, Derby and weekend shows. In addition, I will continue to strengthen NRHA through strong local affiliates. Thanks for considering me as a candidate! Mike Hancock Rocky Mount, North Carolina Mike Hancock has been married to his wife Bryan since They are the proud parents of Catherine and Rebekah. In the professional arena, Mike is currently the Executive Vice President of Boddie-Noell Enterprises, Inc., a multi-state privately held company with over 10,000 employees primarily in the restaurant and land development business. Mike has been an NRHA and Southeast Reining Horse Association member since 1980, and has served on the NRHA Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Reining Horse Sports Foundation and various committees since 1981 when he served on the organizing committee for first NRHA Derby. He is currently chair of Finance Committee and serves on Bylaws Committee and multiple task forces. Mike has held judging cards with NRHA and the American Quarter Horse Association for more than 25 years, and has won multiple NRHA Reserve World Championships, the Saddlesmith Championship and has been a winner of many aged events. On an regional level, he is chair of Carolina Classic Derby, a premier event for 25 years, vice chairman of Board of Trustees North Carolina Wesleyan College and a past president and board member of several non-profit or educational organizations. Currently the NRHA serves many different factions of the Reining Horse world. It must balance the needs of the Aged Events, the Affiliates and the International expansion. It must work in a coordinated effort with other organizations within the equine world such as AQHA and FEI. These needs are sometimes the same, but are often very different. It requires listening, understanding and good judgment to make the best decisions for all. The Executive Committee serves as the dayto-day manager that requires dedication and commitment. The Executive Committee must listen to the Board of Directors and the membership to give guidance to the NRHA staff. August 5, 2015 Page 10 Committee elections or voting process may be answered in the NRHA Handbook or directed to the NRHA Headquarters by calling (405) or visiting nrha.com. NRHA OFFICER ELECTIONS & BYLAW PROPOSALS Executive Committee candidates are listed below with their bios. Please visit the Members Only area of nrha.com of the July NRHA Reiner magazine to view 2016 NRHA Bylaw amendment proposals. Voting for officers and bylaws runs at the same time. 11 I have experience at show management, judging, exhibiting, breeding, administration and governance. As the NRHA has grown, I have been along for the enjoyment and growth as well. If elected, I will use both my experience and judgment to make sure all areas of NRHA are listened to and represented. Casey Hinton Whitesboro, Texas NRHA Professional and current Executive Committee member Casey Hinton joined the National Reining Horse Association in 1991 and became a Life Member in While serving on the NRHA Board of Directors during the 1990s, he was chair of the Youth Committee. It was during his tenure that the Youth Scholarship Program kicked off with the memorable Town Talk luncheon at the NRHA Derby. He again answered the call to serve NRHA and its membership by returning to the Board when he was elected in He has served as chair of the Nominating Committee and vice chair of the Professionals Committee. Casey believes there are even greater things to come in the future for NRHA and its membership. As an NRHA Professional, he has been a Top 20 NRHA Professional and Owner multiple times, as well as winning American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association and Palomino Horse Breeders Association World Championship titles. His commitment to the reining discipline is further stated as he also is an NRHA Judge. Casey and his wife Kathy owner and operate Cedar Ridge Stallion Station in Whitesboro, Texas, where they stand some of the top stallions in the industry and train world-class competitive horses and riders. Rick Ramsey Rush, Kentucky I am running for a term on the Executive Committee and would like to update you on my recent activities on behalf of the membership and NRHA. I currently serve on the Sale, Judges and Compensation Committees. In addition, I am heading a Task Force on Global Governance which, when our job is completed, should enable our group to recommend a way for NRHA to address each area s concerns and needs without affecting the concerns and needs of other regions globally. Also, I have put forth a proposed rule change which would affect the eligibility requirements for continuing to remain a Non-Professional. I proposed this rule in an effort to stimulate a conversation among our membership as to what constitutes a true Non-Pro competitor, as opposed to the perceived Professional Non-Pro who appears to have certain advantages. My hopes are that this conversation will start to bring our membership to a consensus on this issue. On the surface it appears to be a controversial proposal, but unless the problem is put forth, it will continue to be an issue among our membership for many years to come. Personally, I am the owner of a two small businesses involved in the real estate land title and oil and gas land work. I have reached a place in my life, nearly 70 years now, where I can devote the time to a few of my passions and the reining horse is one of those. I have no agenda other than seeing NRHA grow and continue to prosper, and for this reason, I would like to spend the next two years finishing some work I have started. Along with other members of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, we are working toward bringing parity to our sport and to provide a forum where we can prosper and enjoy our discipline. These efforts will become more and more noticeable in the foreseeable future and with those efforts being successful growth should be accelerated at every level of the sport of Reining. This is who I am and what I am about and I would truly appreciate your vote so I can continue to serve the membership and NRHA. Thank you. Brian Welman Hastings, Minnesota I have been an NRHA member for 30 years and have been an NRHA Judge since Prior to this, I attended the University of Wisconsin - River Falls and have operated the Brian Welman Training Center in Minnesota. I am currently the president of the North Central Reining Horse Association (NCRHA) after being a board member for several years. I have served on the NRHA Board of Directors in 2008 and 2011 through I also have donated my help with NRHA Regional Clinician several times. I have been a reining horse trainer for over 25 years. and I am actively involved with all aspects of the reining horse industry. As an NRHA judge, I have judged all of the major August 5, 2015 Page 11

12 events including the NRHA Futurity, NRHA Derby and NRBC to name a few. I have a large no pro clientele bass in my business, therefore I feel I m able to be a representative for the non pros, NRHA Professionals, the weekend horse shows and the aged events. I believe my many years of vast experience in the reining horse industry have prepared me to be a valuable person to serve on the NRHA Executive Committee. SILVAS SPONSOR HOLLYWOODSTINSELTOWN OPEN FUTURITY & GUNNERS TINSELTOWN TULSA KIDS TIME Dave and Bonnie Silva are well known the reining horse world for their commitment to the industry as breeders and owners and have supported the Tulsa Reining Classic with the naming sponsorship of the Hollywoodstinseltown Open Futurity for years. In 2015 they have expanded their commitment with the new Gunners Tineseltown Tulsa Kids Time for the show set for the Tulsa Expo Center August 31 September 6. As their family has grown, spending time with granddaughter Haley Ordner has deepened their appreciation for special kids activities at equine events. Bonnie Silva was quick to get on board with creating a new daily session for kids 10 & Under at Tulsa. Gunners Tinseltown Tulsa Kids Time will be held daily beginning September 1. Free to everyone, each session will include a craft project, physical activity and fun learning activities. We are thankful for Bonnie s support in growing this kid s program at the NRBC, said Colleen McQuay, President of Global Reining Sport Group, which produces the Tulsa Reining Classic. She added, Dave and Bonnie have been dedicated to the reining industry and their breeding program for many years with much success. Sponsoring The Gunners Tinseltown Kids Program is an example of their dedication to kids and family and it means so much to many of the parents coming to Tulsa! We continue to appreciate the Silvas and all they do for us and for the industry! Bess Bouley will head up Gunners Tinseltown Tulsa Kids time, providing daily fun for the kids. Bouley, from Maple Plains, Minnesota, began her career working with kids in a special education program and has nearly thirty years experience in child care and preschool. The Hollywoodstinseltown Open Futurity returns to the Tulsa Reining Classic on Saturday, September 5. The popular event features $60,000 added and is named for the Silva s outstanding young stallion, Hollywoodstinseltown. For Dave Silva, supporting the Tulsa Reining Classic reflects his philosophy of giving back to an industry that he loves. I want to promote the reining horse industry and try to help have a nice futurity for people to attend, he said. Plus, I love the Tulsa Expo Center. There are lots of places to prepare your horse and a nice pen to show in. The Silva family has had a long and productive history in the reining industry and continues to enjoy all facets of the sport. Dave has National Reining Horse Association lifetime earnings over $129K and continues to be an active Non Pro competitor. As an owner, he was honored in 2012 to join the exclusive NRHA Million Dollar Owner ranks as horses he owns have earned over a million dollars. Though the years, many outstanding Silva horses have worked their way into the NRHA record books. Hollywoodstinseltown, for whom the Tulsa Futurity is named, is the horse about which Dave says, He s the best one we ever raised. With a royal pedigree, Hollywoodstinseltown, was destined to be a champion. The 2004 palomino stallion is sired by NRHA Five Million Dollar Sire and Hall of Famer Hollywood Dun It and out of Silva s NRBC Open August 5, 2015 Page 12

13 Champion Miss Tinseltown. The sparkling golden stallion had it all incredible looks, phenomenal movement, and a great mind and those attributes earned quick rewards in the show pen. He was an NRHA Futurity finalist, then an NRBC Intermediate Open Champion, NRHA Derby Reserve Champion and member of the 2010 Gold Medal-Winning World Equestrian Games Team with Tim McQuay. His lifetime earnings exceed $185,000 and when his foals began showing it was easy to see that he was passing on his incredible ability. Bred and owned by Silva Reining Horses, Gunners Tinseltown, known as Gunny, was the 2012 NRHA Open Futurity Reserve Champion, 2013 Whizkey N Diamonds 4 Year Old Stakes L3 Reserve Champion, 2014 Cactus Reining Classic L3 Open Derby Champion, 2014 NRBC L3 Open Reserve Champion and Gunners Tinseltown 2014 NRHA Derby Res. Win PicL4 top 5, 2014 NRHA L3 Open Derby Reserve Champion and L4 top 5, and has earned over $300,000 through the 2015 NRBC. A half-brother to Hollywoodstinseltown, Gunny is sired by the NRHA and AQHA Hall of Fame sire Gunner (AKA Colonels Smoking Gun), who has produced NRHA earners of over $5.5 Million to date and was an earner during his lifetime of over $173,000. For more information on Hollywoodstinseltown, Gunners Tinseltown and Silva Reining Horses, visit the web site at To learn more about the Tulsa Reining Classic, go to LETTER FROM NRHA PRESIDENT RICK CLARK Dear NRHA Membership, As a fellow member and your president, it is my personal responsibility and ultimate goal to consistently and correctly inform you, a valued member of NRHA and friend in Reining, of the decisions your elected board of directors makes, as well as how your staff executes those decisions to enhance the sport of Reining and your overall experience with NRHA. It is often said that one must consider an issue from multiple perspectives prior to forming an opinion. To that end, I ask for the opportunity to express my view on the most recent developments in the field of animal welfare and humane treatment as it pertains to administering medications to our valued equine athletes. I ll begin with a brief recap of the medications program and continue on to more recent events. In 2011, your leadership approved the NRHA Animal Welfare and Medications Rule to be added the 2012 NRHA Handbook. In addition to the rule, the board also approved two implementation policies. A European policy started the penalty phase in 2013 at specified events in Europe. The second policy, for events in areas outside of Europe, contained a multi-year research phase, followed by a penalty phase. I will be referring primarily to the latter throughout the rest of this update. Beginning last fall at the August NRHA Board of Directors meeting, the board considered a proposal that would have made significant alterations to the medications rule. In light of the proposal and surrounding discussion, the board did not approve the changes, but agreed to extend the medications policy research phase for an additional year; and the board agreed to appoint a task force to review the current medications rule and policies. The task force convened and reported back to the board in November After consideration of the input, the board agreed to revert back to the previous policy that called for a penalty phase in However, we felt even more work was needed before the penalty phase could begin, so the immediate past August 5, 2015 Page 13 president appointed a new task force to continue analyzing our rule and policies, as well as penalties and testing procedures. This second task force met several times and then communicated its findings to the board in February The board reviewed their recommendation, debated numerous options and voted on several amendments. They ultimately approved more detailed definitions of penalties including fines, suspensions, probations, etc., as well as more restrictive penalties at select levels. As a board, we felt these additions were appropriate and reaffirmed our commitment to ensuring the health and welfare of our horses. As the medications policy has stated since its inception, NRHA must give members 180 days notice of a change. Therefore, it has been posted in the Members Only section of nrha. com since February 13, 2015, just five days after it was approved. This stipulation was added originally in 2011 to give you, a valued member, time to become aware of the changes before you might face possible repercussions. Due to this, the interpretation at the time was that we could not test for penalty at the NRHA Derby, but must begin that phase starting with the 2015 NRHA Futurity. This interpretation was made after review by the current Medications Task Force chair and executive staff, with my endorsement following their deliberation. You should know, this was

14 not a delay or reactive stance from your leadership, but an interpretation of the 180 day clause while trying to manage many, many alterations and amendments that occurred in less than a year s time. With hindsight often being 20/20, I concede there may have been a better way to handle this very complicated process. Your elected board will assess this action at its August meeting and give feedback to help improve the process for the future. As a board we must always strive to improve our association and to never rest in that endeavor, but I am proud to celebrate the proactive efforts we ve made for our sport, and primarily for our horses. With that said, we continued with the research phase during the 2015 NRHA Derby. A total of six horses in the non pro and six in the open derby were tested. This count was based on a balance of medications fees paid by Derby entries and an estimation of testing expenses. As to how horses were selected, staff used a random number generator prior to the draw. The random numbers were then correlated to a count of horses in the show pen, not a draw number or back number. With late entries and scratches occurring amidst the show, it was absolutely impossible to predict if a certain horse would be tested. This type of selection is an industry standard and supports random testing to ensure the integrity of the program, which exists to provide for the proper care, and welfare of our animals. We recently received results from the laboratory, and I m glad to report the show results would not have been affected had we been in the penalty phase. In August of this year, your board of directors will be presented with a proposed rule change that includes a medications testing fee for NRHA events. This rule change proposal follows a similar approach used by other organizations, and allows NRHA to develop a fund to test horses on a broader level, pay for testing officials, laboratory testing, educational materials and funding for necessary legal and administrative costs. Above and beyond all of this, I want you to know that I take the welfare of our horses personally, and I hope you are as proud as I am for what NRHA has done. We have taken serious consideration and thoughtfulness to create a medications program for the horse; with the same love and passion as if we were caring for our own family. Their welfare is, and will always be, of the utmost importance to us. I will stand beside you and promise that NRHA will never sacrifice the horse due to any outside pressure. As always, if you have questions or concerns, I am at all times available to visit with you, and to hear your concerns so that we can make our NRHA relationship stronger. Sincerely, Rick Clark NRHA President July 16, 2015 August 5, 2015 Page 14

15 As the Scriptures say, No one is righteous--not even one. Romans 3:10 A few facts; my life is not falling apart, it is coming together; my faith has given me a renewed strength, an eternal and powerful hope and an undeserved, unfailing love. However, I am a real person with real struggles. I do things I shouldn t be doing, say stuff I shouldn t be saying, think stuff I shouldn t be thinking and have stuff I shouldn t be having. I am a work in progress, and even though I am a hypocrite, and I mess up all the time; it bothers me so much more now when I do. Sinning against the one who gave it all for me tears me up. I pray that my actions, my speech, my behavior will never interfere with your walk with Jesus in a negative way. I am not where I want to be, but I thank God I am not where I was! Ruben van Dorp grew up in The Netherlands and began training horses over 22 years ago. His equine experience in many different breeds and disciplines led to nine European championships. After relocating to the United States in 2002, he started Vandorp Inc., DBA Vandorp Reining Horses. With his success in the United States, Ruben s current lifetime National Reining Horse Association earnings are over $625,000. In 2003, Ruben married the love of his life, Melissa. They currently reside in Cross Roads, Texas with their beautiful children, Skylar and Peyton. Ruben and his family are very involved in their church, COC Metro, where he and his wife began and lead the PowerPack Ministry. This program currently feeds over 275 elementary school kids per month who are in need of food on the weekends. Ruben has a passion to share the knowledge of Jesus saving grace and see lives changed. He was inspired by a friend to write and share a daily devotional via text messaging which he has continued daily for the past two years. 16 ANCILLARY ACTION AT THE NRHA EUROPEAN AFFILIATE CHAMPIONSHIPS In the $10,000-added NRHA Open, sponsored by Serequine, Bernard Fonck thrilled the public and the judges riding What A Wave (Tidal Wave Jack x What A Sunrise x Sunrise Surprise) for owners Vennietvelt and De Pauw, who purchased the talented stallion following the NRHA Futurity last year. Once the pair had performed their last stop, the score that appeared on the board was a 224. I am very thrilled with this great horse, said the NRHA Million Dollar rider and past multiple NRHA Open World Champion. I have to give credit for Craig Schmersal for taking the time to stay with us after the 23 Classic to help us all out with our horses. What A Wave was very good to me tonight, especially considering the big score we took home last week at the CS Classic. Bernard was also second, with a 223.5, riding his all time team mate Sail On Top Whizard (Whizard Jac x Miss N Sis x Miss N Cash), owned by Danny and Mireille Cerato. Aka Topper, the 10-year-old stallion boasts over $ LTE and has always been ridden by Fonck, who broke and trained him. My goal is to reach the $300,000 mark, said Bernard. I only started putting him back in training a little over a month ago and he was just great. Baeck and Mestdagh are the Serequine $5,000-added Non Pro Co-Champions Tying to win the Serequine $5,000-added NRHA Non Pro with a score of 219 were Susy Baeck riding Pop Gun Cash BB and Piet Metsdagh with his own Reining Whiz between the reins. Owned by Eifel Gold Ranch Baeck, the flashy 7-year-old palomino stallion by Nu Chex To Cash and out of Sugar Pop Gun (by Gunner) boasts over $ LTE and has earned many prestigious European titles with Susy Susy Baeck & Pop Gun Cash BB August 5, 2015 Page 16 Bernard Fonck & What A Wave in the saddle. I m really proud of my horse and as usual he was very special for me. The reason we decided not to run off is because both our mounts did well for us and also because Piet is running for the World title with his, said Susy. Reining Whiz, an own son of Topsail Whiz and out of Rush N Cat (by Little Rush), is an 8-year-old stallion who has won over $44,500 in NRHA competition. I like my new horse so much and he s been great in all the four competitions we ve shown in since I bought him at the beginning of this year, including this one, said the past NRHA Non Pro Reserve Champion. I really appreciate the fact that Susy agreed on not running off today and I look forward to showing him in the upcoming big NRHA approved non pro classes that will be held in Europe this year NRHA European Affiliate Championship The EA Limited Non Pro Championship, sponsored by AGP Imprimerie, opened the day in Le Pin. Winning the first title of the day, and keeping the French flag high, was Jean Francois Ayoul riding his 10-year-old Quarter Horse gelding Slide On Sal (Lenas Wright On x Smart Sally x Smart Chic Olena). My goal coming here was the podium, so actually taking the title is just great, said the NRHA France vice-president who closed his run with a 213. Piet Metsdagh & Reining Whiz

17 I purchased this horse three years ago and unfortunately last year he was injured so we slowly started showing again in I cannot thank my trainer, Fabien Boiron, enough for the great work he has done with me and my horse and of course my friends Catherine and Philippe Castel, owners of Maqueline Reining Jean Francois Ayoul & Slide On Sal Horses, who are huge supporters of the sport of Reining. Michelle Maibaum of Germany rode Chics Lil Revolution (Einsteins Revolution x Dun It By Chick x Hollywood Dun It), owned by Juergen Maibaum, to second place honors with a score of I ve been showing this horse for a little over a year and I really like him, said Michelle who also qualified two other horses for the EAC Youth finals. He is very talented and I m happy we got this result today. My trainer at home is Alex Ripper and, since he did not qualify any horses for the Championship, my thanks go to Ann and Bernard (Fonck) who helped me out here. Third place honors, with a 211.5, went to Gilles Huyghe of Belgium riding Docs Lil Gun. The 8-year-old gelding, owned by Annick and Tom Huyghe, is by Lil Gun and out of Miss Bright Doc (by Exclusively Ours). The EA $1,500-added Intermediate Open Championship, sponsored by Equita Lyon, counted 19 entries. Claiming the title for The Netherlands was Petra Van Ede riding Spook So Fly for owners De Bruin Reining Horses. The 6-year-old gelding by Smart Spook and out of Fly Flashy Petra Van Ede & Spook So Fly Jac (by Boogies Flashy Jac) has been shown by Petra since Words cannot express how happy I am to have made it to the highest step of the podium especially after coming in second behind Doug for the last two shows, said Petra who boasts two Limited Open EAC and who closed her run in Le Pin with a 218. The reserve championship, with a 215, went to Doug Allen of Great Britain riding Christine Brazeau s Hangten Shiner (Hang Ten Surprize x Ebony Shines x Shining Spark), a 7-year-old stallion. My horse was really good for me today, he tried really hard, he s so good minded, athletic and talented, said the NRHA Professional. We came here right after the CS Classic, so we ve been on the road for a while and he s a little tired. I would like to thank Christine Brazeau for giving me the opportunity to ride him. Tying for third place honors, with a 214.5, were Valentina Sagmeister of Austria aboard Robert Hahn s SZ Gunners Newcomer (Gunner x Cowboys New Comer x Dunnit Like A Cowboy) and Frank Perret of France riding his own ND Tiger Woods (Little Gump x Codys Diamond Dun It x Hollywood Dun It). The Youth Competition sponsored by DP Western In the EA Youth Championship, 25 riders representing eight nations rode for the prestigious title (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands). Competition was tough and Indy Henrard of Belgium topped the final standings with a with her 9-year-old Quarter Horse stallion, Steadys WR Diamonds (Steadys Dude x Arc Oak Diamonds x Doctor In Diamonds) between the reins. I ve had my horse for 2 years now. He is really sweet and a great spinner and stopper, said the 16-year-old rider. I have to thank my trainers Patrick and Jurgen Poels for helping me achieve this great result. The second step of the podium was also for Belgium as Gilles Huyghe rode Docs Lil Gun to a 216. The pair had Indy Henrad & Steadys WR Diamonds August 5, 2015 Page 17

18 already claimed third place in the EAC Limited Non Pro held in the morning. Today I showed him in the morning but this afternoon he was super, says Gilles. The level of competition is getting better evey year in the youth classes and it makes showing here more and more fun. With a 214.5, Gina Maria Schumacher of Switzerland rode Jesses Major Affair (Major Vaquero x Jesses Affair x Jesses Impression), a 6-year-old gelding, to the third step of the podium. Twenty-one riders from six countries (Austria, Belgium, France, Great Britain, Italy, The Netherlands) left their mark in the pen vying for the EA Youth 13 & Under Championship. Marie Baralon of France and her 7-year-old mare Chicken Sandwich (Ricochet Rooster x Ms Sanditch Whiz x Topsail Whiz) were second but last to enter the pen and with a 216 they took the title. I just love my mare who I ve had since the beginning of this year, said Marie. Anything I ask of her she tries to give me back, even though I truly have to be very focused when I m in the show pen. I would like to thank my parents for giving me this opportunity and my trainer, Ann Sophie Guerriero. I now look forward to showing her at the European Derby. Matteo Cappello, who had set the bar with a early in the draw riding his 5-year-old gelding RS Knockout Olena (Spat Olena x Boogie Bar Linda x Boogie Mania), settled for second place. My goal was that of qualifying for the Championship and hopefully earning the title, said the Italian rider. I m happy with the way my horse went for me today, even though I can t hide the fact that I was hoping to win! Belgian Jinke Stevens and her 8-year-old gelding Don John Escapes BB (Don Quixote Escapes x Soft Whizpers x Topsail Whiz) posted a taking third place honors. Youth Team Tournament: The 2015 Youth Team Tournament counted 13 teams.
