17 Tennis in Drexel Hall of Fame Barbara Boyle (Sullivan) Class of 1958 Induction Class of 1977 (Field Hockey, Softball, Women s Basketball, Women s Tennis) Barbara Boyle Sullivan was one of the most decorated women athletes in the history of Drexel University. She won 12 letters in four sports. Boyle Sullivan played four years of basketball and field hockey and played two seasons on both the tennis and the softball teams. Boyle Sullivan was just the second woman ever elected to the Hall of Fame. She won the Blazer Award, Drexel s highest honor for a woman athlete. In addition, Boyle Sullivan won the Athlon Plaque Award for earning three letters in the same year. She won that award three times. During her years at Drexel, Boyle Sullivan was also active in the Women s Athletic Association, serving as the secretary-treasurer and as the social chairman. Randall S. Burkert Class of 1982 Induction Class of 1989 (Men s Basketball, Men s Crew, Men s Tennis) Randall Burkert was a four-year letterwinner on the basketball team. Burkert was the recipient of the Thomas Greene Award as Drexel s Outstanding Graduating Athlete in As a senior, he led the team win scoring with 374 points and helped guide the Dragons to a school-record 19 victories. He was also named a Second Team All-East Conference Coast pick and a Region II Academic All-American. Burkert, a co-captain as both a junior and senior, was also awarded the General Greene Award as Drexel s Outstanding Sophomore Athlete. He was the ECC Rookie of the Year as a freshman and became just the sixth Dragon to score more than 1,000 career points.

18 Tennis in Drexel Hall of Fame Ralph C. Connell Class of 1924 Induction Class of 1971 (Football, Men s Basketball, Men s Tennis, Track and Field) Ralph Connell played four seasons of both basketball and football while in University City. He captained the basketball team as a senior and led the team in scoring during the 1924 season. Connell was a key member of the football team. He scored four touchdowns and had an extra point in the team s win vs. Washington and had 15 first downs in a victory against West Chester. Connell, who graduated in 1925, also played two years on the track team and one year on the tennis team. He later worked as a professor at Drexel. Janet Lamon (Ciocciola) Class of 1968 Induction Class of 1986 (Field Hockey, Women s Basketball, Women s Lacrosse, Women s Tennis) Janet Lamon Ciocciola was a recipient of the Athlon Award in each of her four seasons at Drexel for earning varsity letters in at least three different sports. She earned four of those letters in field hockey, four more in basketball, three on the lacrosse field and one in tennis. As a junior and senior on the field hockey team, she was chosen Honorable Mention All-College. As a member of the basketball team, her teams lost only once in her four years. A co-captain for two seasons and one in basketball, she graduated first in her class in women s business administration in Lamon Ciocciola served in the Women s Athletic Association three years and was the publicity chairman as a junior.

19 Tennis in Drexel Hall of Fame Al Laverson Induction Class of 1996 (Men s Tennis) Al Laverson was one of the longest tenured coaches in Drexel history. He was a member of the Drexel Athletic Department for more than 45 years which spanned the term of nine U.S. Presidents. Laverson was the men s tennis coach for 32 years. He also served as an assistant soccer coach at Drexel for more than 30 years. Laverson was an assistant under Drexel Hall of Fame coach Don Yonker for 29 years and for another 14 seasons under Johnson Bowie. During his undergraduate days at Temple University, Laverson was a three-year letterwinner who was named an All-America. He also played in the Maccabian Games in Israel and played professionally with the Philadelphia Americans. Marian Layton (Lloyd) Class of 1964 Induction Class of 1978 (Field Hockey, Softball, Women s Basketball, Women s Tennis) Marian Layton Lloyd excelled in four sports at Drexel and earned a total of 11 letters in her four years at the school. She played on the basketball and field hockey team for four seasons each. Layton Lloyd also played two seasons of tennis and a year of softball. Layton Lloyd was one of the finest field hockey players ever to play at the school. She was named to the Philadelphia All-College First Team. She twice received the Athlon Award for winning three varsity letters in one season. Layton Lloyd also won the Blazer Award.

20 Tennis in Drexel Hall of Fame Nancy Morrison (Keiper) Class of 1958 Induction Class of 1993 (Women s Tennis) Nancy Morrison Keiper was a four-year letterwinner on the tennis team and was a captain for three of those years. She was a two-time selection the Middle States Women s Intercollegiate Championships. Morrison Keiper was also a four-year letterwinner in badminton. She played at first singles on the team before she graduated in After graduation, Morrison Keiper went on to coach three separate high school teams to state titles and voted the 1990 Delaware Tennis Association s Coach of the Year. Norman Parmet Class of 1947 Induction Class of 1973 (Football, Men s Basketball, Men s Tennis) Norman Parmet was a truly versatile athlete who played and excelled in three different sports while at Drexel. Parmet starred on the gridiron as well as on the basketball and tennis courts. While Parmet s collegiate athletic career was interrupted when he answered the call to serve his nation in World War II from , he returned to Drexel to complete his degree and settle scores on the playing field. When he returned to Drexel for the season, Parmet was a starting guard on the Dragons basketball team which posted a 7-2 record and finished second in the Middle Athletic Conference. Parmet was equally skilled on the tennis court, playing predominantly at first singles for the Dragons throughout his career. He also captained the netters as a senior. In 1947 Parmet earned the Alumni Varsity Club Award as Drexel s most outstanding senior athlete.

21 Tennis in Drexel Hall of Fame F. Clark Walton Class of 1956 Induction Class of 1982 (Men s Tennis, Wrestling) F.C. Walton was a member of both the wrestling and tennis teams during his career at Drexel. He was undefeated in his wrestling career in dual meet competition. Walton was 19-0 at the 130-pound weight class in his three years of varsity wrestling. Walton also played two seasons of tennis. He was undefeated in singles play in Walton, who was an assistant coach for the wrestling team for two years after his playing days, graduated in Louisa Willcox (Sweeney) Class of 1956 Induction Class of 1996 (Field Hockey, Women s Basketball, Women s Tennis) Louisa Willcox Sweeney earned 12 varsity letters in her career at Drexel. She was a member of the women s basketball, field hockey, tennis and badminton teams. Sweeney was a standout field hockey player who was named a Fourth Team All-College All-America selection. On the tennis court, Sweeney won the 1959 Eastern States Clay Court Championships and was ranked in both Philadelphia and the Middle States.
