6 About the Editor and Contributors Fereshteh Barei is an academic researcher at LEGOS Laboratory for Health Economics and Management, at Dauphine University, in Paris. Her research program is focused on Innovation strategy in health-care industry, pharmaceutical and biotech industry, and market access issues. As a lecturer, she discusses strategy, disease management, the case of business model innovation, product differentiation strategies, and evolving R&D systems in international workshops. She is teaching for Master s program in International management at Dauphine University. Since June 2014, she has created Bionowin Santé Avenue Association in Paris focusing on workshop organization, academic research, and consulting. Professor Richard Barker has been Director of CASMI since its creation and was instrumental in its inception and launch. He is a strategic advisor, speaker and author on healthcare and life sciences. Richard s 25-year business career has spanned biopharmaceuticals, diagnostics and medical informatics both in the USA and Europe. Most recently he was Director General of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, member of the Executive Committee of EFPIA (the European industry association) and Council member of IFPMA (the international equivalent). His past leadership roles include head of McKinsey s European healthcare practice, General Manager of Healthcare Solutions for IBM and Chief Executive of Chiron Diagnostics. He was also Chairman and Chief Executive of Molecular Staging, a US bioscience company, now part of Qiagen. In addition to leading and advising a wide range of companies, Richard has advised successive UK governments on healthcare issues, and in particular, on developing, valuing and using new healthcare technologies. His was co-founder of Life Sciences UK, a member of the NHS Stakeholder Forum, and vice-chair of the UK Clinical Trials Collaboration. He is also Chairman of Stem Cells for Safer Medicines, a public-private partnership developing stem cell technology for predicting the safety profile of new medicines, and a board member of ico Therapeutics, a Canadian bioscience company. Richard s book on the future of healthcare; 2030 The Future of Medicine: Avoiding a Medical Meltdown, is published by Oxford University Press. He speaks vii

François Bompart, MD is Vice-President, Deputy Head and Medical Director of Sanofi s Access to Medicines department. This department brings together the Sanofi Group s areas of expertise to address the challenge of access to healthcare in developing and emerging countries for specific diseases: malaria, tuberculosis, sleeping sickness, leishmaniases, mental illnesses, and epilepsy. He also chairs, since 2012, the Global Health Initiative (GHI) of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA). The GHI gathers the European research-based pharmaceutical companies which are actively engaged in global health. It aims to encourage collaboration among European political actors to create solutions for shared problems in global health. Contact: francois. bompart@sanofi.com Geoffrey Chun Chen has 7 years of intensive experience in the health-care and biopharmaceutical industry, including 3 years as a Research Manager at Cegedim Strategic Data (currently IMS Health), where he led a quantitative research team to provide data-driven consulting services to Fortune 500 companies. He has also served as a Copresident and Director of sustainable development at Hopkins Biotech Network for 2 years. Currently, he works as a consultant for BioMaryland, a life-sciences-focused department within Maryland s state government. He held a BA in advertising/marketing from Tongji University and an MBA in Health-Care Management from Johns Hopkins University. Satish Chundru is a seasoned pharma professional and has worked with pharmaceutical companies across countries. He has got a wide exposure to both innovators and generics business. He started his career in digital strategy at Sanofi, France, and in his most recent role was appointed to manage business in Southeast and East Asia for Aurobindo Pharma. Prior to that, he worked in the CEO s office as a junior attaché to the CEO. He is a recipient of Novartis International Biotechnology Leadership Camp (BioCamp) and was invited to Novartis Global HQ in Basel, Switzerland. He holds a Masters degree in business from the Grenoble Graduate School of Business. Kay Fisher is the founder and chief executive of a leading customer experience company, Experience Engineers. She is a patient-experience specialist and her work has been fundamental in paving the way to driving measurable, improved patientreported outcomes for pharmaceutical companies (Pfizer, Vertex, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Bristol-Myers Squibb) and many other health-care deliverers (Addenbrookes, RNOH, Cancer Care Groups, Bupa). Website: experienceengineers.co.uk Vanessa Logerais holds a postgraduate diploma in international negotiation (Sorbone Nouvelle), is an expert in corporate strategy and communication, and manages Parangone, a French agency specialized in strategy and communication for sustainable development. She works with public authorities (environmental programs and town and country planning) and with companies (corporate social responsibility

Being a journalist and presenter, she regularly hosts national and international events, trainings and conferences, takes part in think tanks and is the author of specialized articles and publications. is Chief Executive Officer of AJ Biologics and Regional Partner for Switzerland at Mérieux Développement. He is also Non-Executive Director to the Board of Theradiag since March 2012, a company focusing on in vitro diagnostics in auto-immunity, infectious diseases and allergy, as well as Non-Executive Director to the Board of Eurocine Vaccines since December 2013, a company dedicated to developing nasal vaccines. He holds a Doctorate of Pharmacy from Lyon University, France, a Master in Business Law from the Lyon Law School and a MBA from ESSEC, France. He is also an alumnus of INSEAD, IMD and MCE executive programs. Pierre has over 26 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biological industry, both in marketing positions (from product marketing at country level to global marketing strategy) and in operations (from business unit head to general manager). Through these local and global positions, he has acquired direct experience with blockbuster products in diverse markets (primary care, specialty care, hospital, vaccines, and biotechnology), geographies (US, Europe, Japan, China, India, Emerging Markets) and organizations. He spent 2 years at ICI-Pharma, followed by 8 years at Synthelabo, then a division of L Oreal. He joined Aventis Pasteur in 1998, then he had diversified experiences in operations at Yamanouchi Pharma, BMS, Drug Abuse Sciences, Schering-Plough, Bio Alliance Pharma and Sanofi Pasteur. He joined AJ Biologics from Cegedim where he was Chief Marketing Officer and member of the Executive Committee. Eduardo Pisani As IFPMA Director General, Eduardo leads since 2010 the dialogue between research-based pharmaceutical companies and associations with the United Nations and its specialized agencies. Together with his team and working with IFPMA President and Vice Presidents, Eduardo shares the expertise and perspectives of the industry in global health discussions. He has been instrumental in shaping many of IFPMA s leading initiatives such as the Framework for Action on NCDs and the London Declaration on NTDs. An industry leader with two decades of pharmaceutical experience, in particular with Bristol-Myers Squibb and Baxter, he has seen health policy and patient access discussions evolve from a close vantage point, and is convinced that platforms for constructive policy discussion are essential to effective policy making. Building on success establishing the first cross-sectoral industry advocacy group on healthcare policy in Brussels, he is similarly engaged in Geneva demonstrating that informed debate and partnerships are important for moving forward. An attorney, Eduardo is Italian and is the proud father of two children. You can follow him on Linkedin and Prof. Dr. Alexander Schuhmacher has been promoted to professor in 2012 at Reutlingen University (Germany). He teaches both in business management and

Prior to his academic career he worked for 14 years in the pharmaceutical industry in various positions in R&D. The most transformative years of his industry career occurred when he was heading the function of strategic planning & business support at Nycomed, whereupon he was also co-heading the R&D integration team following the merger of Nycomed and ALTANA Pharma in 2006/2007. Alexander has in depth experience in project portfolio management, project evaluation, management of pharmaceutical R&D and drug discovery. In addition, he gained general experience in heading and coordinating various senior management committees, as well as in strategic management and change management. Alexander received its Ph.D. in molecular biology at the University of Constance (Germany). He graduated in biology at University of Constance (Germany) and in pharmaceutical medicine at Witten-Herdecke University (Germany) and he is also a graduate of the Executive MBA program at the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland). Virgil Simons is the Founder and President of The Prostate Net, a nonprofit patient education and advocacy organization. When he was diagnosed, there was little to no readily accessible information to help prostate cancer patients and their families make informed treatment decisions. Using the experiences gained as a marketing professional, a 19-year survivor of prostate cancer, and a patient advocate, he has built an international organization that uses a matrix of informational techniques (Web site, 800#, and personal team counselors, public forums, newsletters, and community disease interventions) to address disease risk awareness and early disease interdiction. Sjaak Vink (Co-founder of mytomorrows and CEO) is a business economist with more than 20 years experience as an entrepreneur, promoter of innovation and source of inspiration for impact creating entrepreneurs and managing boards worldwide. He is founder of the Virus of Change and initiator of the Manifesto of Entrepreneurial Change. The entrepreneurial challenge to change the system and improve the lives of many patients around the world inspired Sjaak to co-found mytomorrows.
