These are critically important traits for business owners in today s marketplace and central to understanding who we are in Northeast Indiana. Economic development is a systematic effort to preserve and enhance the vitality of a community s economy. I believe it is best described as a team sport most resembling a long-distance relay race. Everyone on the team has a role to play and must successfully pass the baton to the next team member to keep the team competitive in the long run. Mark Wickersham Today, amid the uncertainty in the global marketplace, employers large and small continue to grow, prosper and diversify in Northeast Indiana. This report highlights the 2014 accomplishments of the economic development team in Huntington County as we work to help make Huntington County an even better place to live and work. But to make a long story short, 1. Unemployment is down. 2. Occupancy of industrial sites is up. 3. The local industrial base is stable and supporting new retail and service businesses. 4. Our local units of government are pro-business and fiscally sound. We are a proud part of the Northeast Indiana Region, relentlessly reliable, standing on our conviction that through hard work and determination we can achieve virtually anything. Saint Francis of Assisi is quoted as saying, Do what s necessary; then do what s possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible. There are numerous clients, donors, governmental officials and others in Huntington County tenaciously working toward making the impossible become a reality. The 2014 Committee members enjoyed luncheons at various locations throughout Huntington including, the historic Public Service Indiana (Duke Energy) Building, the Herald-Press Building, Norwood Golf Course, the Huntington City-Township Public Library, and the historic Wabash Railroad Depot. Nick s Kitchen has been an anchor in downtown Huntington since 1908.
