2 PROFESSOR DATO DR. AISHAH BIDIN Professor Dato Dr. Aishah Bidin is the Professor of Corporate and Insolvency Law and the Dean of the Faculty of Law, National University of Malaysia. Currently she is the Commissioner in the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM) responsible for Business and Human Rights. She was the former legal advisor at UKM Holdings Sdn. Bhd. Her areas of specialization include company and corporate finance law, securities regulation, bankruptcy and insolvency law. Currently, her teaching and research areas include Energy Law. Professor Dato Aishah is a Visiting Professor at the World University of Economy and Diplomacy, Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Previously, she served as a visiting professor at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia (2007) and visiting research fellow at University of New South Wales ( ). Currently she is also a member of the Australian Corporate Law Teachers Association and a member of INSOL Academics and INSOL Europe. Professor Dato Aishah is also a Board Member of the Companies Commission of Malaysia, former Board Member of the National Legal Aid Foundation of Malaysia, a member of the Advisory Board of Intellectual Property of the National University of Malaysia, a member of the Advisory Board of Malaysian Legal and Tax Information Centre and was a member of the Steering Committee of the Malaysian Corporate Law Reform Committee ( ). Professor Dato Aishah also served as a member of the Review Committee of Bankruptcy and Corporate Insolvency Law of Malaysia, under the Insolvency Department, Prime Minister s Department of Malaysia (2011).
3 DATO SAW CHOO BOON Dato Saw Choo Boon holds a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) Honours from the University of Malaya. He joined Shell Malaysia in 1970 and served in various capacities in Manufacturing, Supply, Trading and Planning in Malaysia, Singapore and Netherlands. He was then appointed the Managing Director of Shell MDS (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd in 1996 and the Managing Director for Oil Products (Downstream) Shell Malaysia in In 1999, with the globalisation of the Shell Oil Products business, he assumed the role of Vice- President of the Commercial business in the Asia- Pacific region and in 2005, he managed Shell s Global Marine Oil Products business. He was appointed the Chairman of Shell Malaysia from 2006 until 2009, and Senior Adviser until 30 June 2010, when he retired from Shell after 40 years of continuous service. Currently, YBhg Dato Saw is a Non-Executive Independent Board Member of Shell Refining Company (FOM) Bhd., RHB Capital Bhd., RHB Investment Bank Bhd., Digi.Com Bhd., and Guinness Anchor Bhd. where he is also the Chairman. He is also the co-chair of the Government s Special Task Force To Facilitate Business (Pemudah), and President of the Federation Of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM).
4 PETER LIM THIAM KEE Peter Lim Thiam Kee is the Managing Partner of audit assurance firm T. K. Lim & Associates, Chartered Accountants and has over thirty (30) years of experience in public practice providing audit assurance, corporate taxation, corporate consultancy and advisory services. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business degree in accounting from Curtin University, Western Australia. He is a fellow member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (London), Certified Practising Accountants (Australia), and a member of the Malaysian Institute Accountants, the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia. Peter Lim is currently the President of the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, Deputy President of the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia and a Council member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He served as a Council member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants from September 2004 to September 2008 and from September 2009 to September He also served as the Chairman of the Public Practice Committee and Investigation Committee from September 2006 to September 2008, Chairman of the Tax Practice Committee from September 2009 to September 2012 and is currently a member of the Executive Committee, Public Practice Committee, Practice Review Committee and Taxation Committee since September 2012 to date. He is currently the Chairman of the MICPA s Public Practice Committee. Peter Lim served as the Chairman of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, Malaysia Chapter from 2001 to He also served as a member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), Small Medium Practices Committee from January 2006 to December He was appointed as a member of the Panel of Interviewers for Audit and Liquidator License by the Malaysian Institute of Accountants since 2006 and continues to serve on the Panel to-date. He was also appointed by the Bar Council as a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board since 2002 and continues to serve on the Committee to-date.
5 TOH WEE SAN Wee San graduated from the National University of Singapore with a degree in law in She joined the Singapore Legal Service and was formerly a Deputy Public Prosecutor/State Counsel with the Attorney's General Chambers. She was posted to ACRA (then known as the Registry of Companies and Businesses) as a legal officer in In ACRA, she was rotated to various operational and policy units over the years. Presently she is the Assistant Chief Executive (Business Facilitation and Law Reform) of ACRA and oversees the registry, client engagement and law reform departments.
6 MOHAMED ZANYUIN ISMAIL Mohamed Zanyuin was appointed as the Deputy Chief Officer (Operations) [DCEO (Operations)] with effect from 1 July He oversees the functions of the Registration and Services Division, Marketing and Business Development Division, the Corporate Development & Policy Division and Branch Operations which is responsible for the supervision and monitoring of 14 states offices, four (4) branch offices and service counters nationwide under UTC. Mohamed Zanyuin holds a Bachelor Degree in Social Science (Hons) from Universiti Sains Malaysia. He was first appointed as Registration Officer/Assistant Registrar of Companies under the Ministry of Trade and Industry in 1980; Deputy Registrar of the Registry of Business in 1995; Senior Manager for Business Registration Section in 1995 and after the establishment of SSM, he was appointed as the Director of Registration Services in 2003.
7 TAN SRI YONG POH KON Tan Sri Yong Poh Kon is Managing Director of Royal Selangor International Sdn Bhd, manufacturer and exporter of pewter products. He graduated from the University of Adelaide with First Class Honours in Mechanical Engineering in For over three decades, Tan Sri Yong has been associated closely with the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM), and is currently its Immediate Past President. Tan Sri Yong has served as a Board member of Bank Negara Malaysia and as a founding Commissioner of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. In 2007, he was appointed by the Prime Minister to be the Co-Chair together with the Chief Secretary of Malaysia, of PEMUDAH the Task Force to Facilitate Business until he stepped down in September During this period, Malaysia s ranking in the World Bank s Ease of Doing Business Survey improved from number 25th to number 6th in the world. In February 2009 he was appointed as a member of the Advisory Board of the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission. Tan Sri Yong is also a member of the Economic Council chaired by the Prime Minister.
8 DAVID ANTHONY JONES David is General Manager for RUAG Aviation Malaysia where he is responsible for both their operations and business Development activity in SE Asia. RUAG is a Swiss owned total solutions provider in the aerospace and defence markets. Prior to this David was Vice President Sales Asia Pacific for SR Technics and prior this ran an independent consultancy covering the fields of aerospace and manufacturing focused on joint ventures, business planning, market strategy and supply chain development offering support to government bodies, financial institutions as well as small and medium size enterprises. David has also worked for a number of years as consultant for MiGHT. David was employed for more almost 10 years with Rolls-Royce including being Regional Director for Malaysia where he was actively involved in the developing the aerospace and defence markets. Whilst with Rolls-Royce he led the team responsible for the development of the new aftermarket strategy TotalCare and the successful development of Rolls-Royce's customer e.business portal aeromanager. For nineteen years David worked with two leading international airlines namely Malaysia Airlines and British Airways where he held various engineering and commercial roles. David has lived in Malaysia for 23 years and is a director of Pemudah, a government industry body as well as being Aerospace Committee Chairman of the EU Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. David was formerly Chairman of the same chamber for seven years and has led a number of other senior posts in chambers of commerce, education establishments and charitable organisations. David holds an MBA from University of Nottingham, an honours degree in Aeronautical Engineering and is a Member of both the Chartered Institute of Management and Chartered Institute of Marketing
9 STEWART JAMES FORBES Stewart Forbes is the Executive Director of the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MICCI). A shipbroker by profession, Mr. Forbes has had some 45 years business experience in Asia of which more than 32 years experience has been in Malaysia. Mr. Forbes was involved in the development of container services for British shipowners in the Far East during the late 1960s and early 1970s. He served as Vice Chairman of the International Shipowners Association, Malaysia for 6 years and is a past Chairman of the MICCI Perak Branch. Mr. Forbes was instrumental in the establishment of the Coalition of Services Industries Malaysia (CSIM) in 2007 by MICCI and represents CSIM within the Global Services Coalition. Mr. Forbes is a graduate of the London Institute of Transport. He has been actively involved in the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce & Industry for over 25 years and has been its Executive Director since the year 2000.
10 NORHAIZA JEMON Norhaiza Jemon is the Head of Law Reform, Policy & International Affairs at the Corporate Development & Policy Division since September She is also the Project Manager for Dynamic Legal Framework under the Second Strategic Direction Plan ( ) of SSM, an initiative to create conducive business environment in Malaysia through the review of legislations under the purview of SSM. Under the project, SSM has recently implemented the Limited Liability Partnerships Act 2012 and currently, SSM is in the midst of introducing the new Companies Bill and the Interest Schemes Bill. Norhaiza joined SSM as a legal researcher in July Prior to joining SSM, she was the Deputy Manager, Technical and Research Department of the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA). Her areas of research include corporate laws, corporate governance and company secretarial practice issues. She graduated with LL.B (Hons.) from Coventry University, United Kingdom.
11 PHILIP KOH TONG NGEE Philip T. N. Koh LLB (Hons) (Malaya); LLM (London); MA (Theology) (Australian Catholic University) and Advocate & Solicitor, High Court of Malaya is a sought after presenter at national and international forums. He advises on corporate governance and has been involved in advisory roles in family based enterprise in his three decades of professional work straddling academia, board member of PLC and legal counseling. He is a member of Private Sector Group of Corporate Governance Forum, IFC and is also a Committee Member of Executive Financial Stability Committee, Central Bank Malaysia. As a Panel member of Kuala Lumpur Regional Arbitration Center, he has conducted arbitration in commercial disputes. He has also been involved family succession forums held in collaborator with INSEAD and RENMIN University.
12 DATO IKMAL HIJAZ BIN HASHIM Dato Ikmal Hijaz was appointed as Chairman of the Faber Group Berhad ( FGB ) on 1 March He is also the Chairman of the Investment Committee. Dato Ikmal Hijaz holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours, Universiti Malaya and a Master of Philosophy in Land Management, University of Reading, United Kingdom. 13 SAMANTHA TAI YIT CHAN Samantha is the Managing Director of Boardroom Corporate Services (KL) Sdn Bhd. She is a Fellow member of the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA) and has over 20 years of experience in corporate secretarial work. Samantha has provided extensive in-house trainings for directors of public-listed companies and is a regular speaker for seminars organised by MAICSA, Malaysian Institute of Corporate Governance, Malaysian Institute of Accountants and other organisations. Samantha is a Board member of the Malaysian Investor Relations Association. She is a member of the Conference Organising Committee, a member of the Working Group of MAICSA Governance Guides and ex-member of the Audit Committee of MAICSA. Listed as one of the top 20 company secretaries by MAICSA in 2004, she has extensive experience in corporate secretarial requirements and provides advisory including corporate governance, due diligence reviews for corporate restructuring and related services such as IPOs, liquidation and preparation of circulars for submission to Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad.
14 MOHAMED SUFYAN MOHD MOKHTAR Mohamed Sufyan is the Head, Litigation Section, Legal Services Division in the Companies Commission of Malaysia ( SSM ). He is involved in handling civil cases for SSM, conducting research in commercial law issues for preparation of cases and attending Court for hearings and appeals on behalf of SSM. He is also a qualified Mutual Evaluation Assessor under the Asia/Pacific Group on Money Laundering and Certified Trainer accredited by the Human Resources Development Fund Berhad. He has 20 years experience in the legal field, beginning with legal practice in Kuala Lumpur and Kuantan. He subsequently joined the Securities Commission and later worked as a Legal Officer in Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Berhad, Malaysia s asset management agency which was established subsequent to the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis. Mohamed Sufyan was educated at the Malay College Kuala Kangsar and London School of Economics & Political Science. He is a Barrister-at-Law (Inner Temple) and was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya, in 1995.
15 SELVARANY RASIAH A law graduate from the University of Malaya and has been admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. She practised law with a law firm in Kuala Lumpur before joining the KLSE Group. She has held various positions in the Exchange Group of Companies and has significant experience in the business of stock exchange and the capital markets. Selvarany has also been significantly involved in the development of the corporate governance framework in Malaysia. She is currently a member of the OECD Asian Roundtable for Corporate Governance as well as the Corporate Governance Working Group established by the Securities Commission in Malaysia. She is presently the Chief Regulatory Officer of Bursa Malaysia Berhad. In her present position she is responsible for the frontline regulation undertaken by Bursa which includes market surveillance, listing, participant supervision, enforcement and regulatory development.
16 CINDY TAN LER CHIN Cindy is currently the Head of Investment Compliance Department in Employees Provident Fund Board (EPF). Her responsibilities include settlement of all investment transaction and ensure that compliance of both internal and external (both domestic and offshore) guidelines are met by the various in house Fund Managers. Her role also includes the overseeing of EPF s Chinese Wall Policy and Procedures. Prior to this, she was the Fixed Income Fund Manager for EPF and her role include managing the Loan and Private Debt Security portfolio for EPF. During that time, she had the opportunity to participate in several Greenfield projects like the Independent Power Plant projects, PLUS highway, SMART tunnel project, to name a few. She has also been a Board member for several Public listed Company, namely MBSB and Sunway Incorporated Bhd. Currently she is a board member of Malakoff Berhad, a private company.
17 YAP WENG SEONG Yap Weng Seong is a Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, United Kingdom and a member of Malaysian Institute of Accountants. He also holds the Certification in Training certificate awarded by Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment awarded by Management Consultancy International Pty Ltd, Australia. Weng Seong started his career with an international firm specialising in audit, accounting and business advisory services. Thereafter he joined the Royal Malaysian Customs in the Licensing and Enforcement Sections before returning to the private sector as a Financial Controller where he gained valuable knowledge and skills in the areas of administration, finance and accounting. He subsequently joined the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDNM) to further his career. During his career with the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia, he had wide exposure and knowledge in personal and corporate tax, tax audit, withholding tax and compliance tax at the Corporate Tax and Withholding Tax Sections. He was also appointed by IRB to conduct civil proceedings in Malaysian courts pursuant to the Income Tax Act 1967.
18 DATO MOHAMMAD FAIZ AZMI Faiz is the Executive Chairman of PwC Malaysia and was the leader of PricewaterhouseCoopers Global Islamic Finance Team practice from 2007 to September He was also previously the Financial Services Leader for Malaysia. Faiz has over 29 years experience in the audit and business advisory services of financial institutions both in UK and Malaysia. He has also been involved in the audits of clients in the banking, healthcare, power and construction sectors. A subject matter expert on banking and Islamic finance topics, Faiz is often invited to speak at seminars and forums, both locally and abroad. Faiz serves on the boards of several professional bodies. Among others, he is the Chairman of the Malaysia Accounting Standards Board, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and Council Member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants. In addition, he is a member of The Association of Chartered Islamic Finance Professionals Malaysia and chairs the Asian-Oceanian Standard- Setters Group on Islamic Finance. He is also a member of the International Accounting Standards Board, Committee on Islamic Product/Finance. Faiz was educated in Malaysia and UK and read law at the University of Durham before being called to the English Bar.
19 NIK MOHD HASYUDEEN YUSOFF Nik Hasyudeen is the Executive Chairman of the Audit Oversight Board and an Executive Director of the Securities Commission, Malaysia. He is presently a member of the Operational Review Panel of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, a member of the Financial Reporting Foundation and also serves on the Corporate Debt Restructuring Committee which was set up by Bank Negara Malaysia. Nik is an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Business and Accountancy, University of Malaya. Nik was the former President of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and also the former Vice-President of the Asean Federation of Accountants. He had also served on the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board and the Listing Committee of Bursa Malaysia. He holds a Bachelor of Business degree from Curtin University of Technology and is a Fellow of CPA Australia.
20 JOHAN IDRIS Johan was appointed as MIA President on 22 July He is the Managing Partner in KPMG Malaysia and oversees all aspects of operations at the audit, tax and advisory services company. Johan, a chartered accountant since 1993, was admitted as partner in KPMG in Malaysia in 2002 and headed the audit practice in the firm as partner in charge prior to his appointment as managing partner on 1st January With more than 23 years of both local and international professional experience in the audit and business advisory services, Johan has worked on various assignments for multinational companies, which are in the Fortune 500 list, and several public listed companies quoted on Bursa Malaysia. Beyond Malaysia, he has advised on the restructuring of oil and gas businesses for one of the major oil and gas players in the US and Indonesia. Backed by his expertise in energy and natural resources, Johan currently serves as the head of energy and natural resources line of business in the firm and is the project leader for extractive industries on the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board. Johan graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in accountancy programme and an alumnus of the second batch of UPM graduates to qualify professionally through the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA).
21 TANG SENG CHOON Tang Seng Choon is the Head of Audit at BDO Malaysia. He has more than 25 years working experience in the accounting profession. He is also the Partner in- Charge of BDO Cambodia Limited. He is a member of the BDO International Audit Steering Committee ( ASC ), which deals with the global roll out of all new audit methodology and tools, as well as accounting and auditing issues and initiatives of BDO International. He is also a member of the BDO International IFRS Working Group, and is currently the Audit and Accounting Coordinator of BDO Malaysia. He sits on the Financial Statements Review Committee and the Audit and Assurance Standards Board (AASB) of MIA.
22 NOR AZIMAH ABDUL AZIZ Nor Azimah is currently the Director of SSM s Corporate Development & Policy Division to oversee law reform in legislations administered by SSM, policy, international networking, economic research & statistics, risk management, project management and monitoring, promotion of corporate responsibility initiatives as well as strategic planning of SSM. Prior to this post, Nor Azimah was the Director of Companies Commission of Malaysia Training Academy (COMTRAC) from April 2007 until September 2010 where she was responsible in the establishment and the overall operationalisation of COMTRAC, the training arm of the Commission which was set up and mobilised in She joined SSM in 2003 as General Manager of Corporate Policy, Planning and Development. Throughout her service with SSM, Nor Azimah served as the Secretary to the Corporate Law Reform Committee as well as the National Integrity Plan. Nor Azimah obtained her law degree from ITM Shah Alam in 1991 and began her career as an Advocate and Solicitor in She then joined National University of Malaysia, as a Law Lecturer at the Accounting Department, Faculty of Business and Management and acquired her postgraduate degree in LLM (Business Law) from the University of Wales, UK in In 2000, she was seconded to the Technical and Regulatory Department of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants prior to joining SSM.
23 GEETHA SIVAPATHASUNDRAM Geetha is currently the Managing Director, Group Compliance of CIMB Investment Bank Berhad. Geetha holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from University College Wales, Aberystwyth,United Kingdom and is a Barrister of the Honourable Society of Lincoln s Inn. Upon her return from the United Kingdom, she was admitted as Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. Prior to joining CIMB Investment Bank in 2006, Geetha was in legal practice from 1991 to 1998 before she joined a local financial institution overseeing the Compliance, Legal and Risk Management functions. Geetha who has over 15 years of Compliance experience in consumer banking and capital markets, is also a member of the Compliance Committee of the Malaysian Investment Banking Association and was a member of the Working Group on Capital Raising and Capital Maintenance of the Corporate Law Reform Committee that was tasked to review the current law and practice on capital raising and capital maintenance rules.
24 LAWRENCE KWAN Mr Kwan was the managing director of a firm of corporate secretarial and share registrar services provider till his retirement in January He has more than 30 years experience in the fields of financial services and professional corporate secretarial services. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, UK. He was the immediate past Chairman of the Singapore Association of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (SAICSA). He has held various positions in the Management Council of SAICSA since 2000 to to-date. He is also a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a full member of the Singapore Institute of Directors.
25 WONG CHEE LIN Wong Chee Lin graduated from Hertford College, Oxford University, UK in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) with honours. She then enrolled in City University to obtain a diploma in law and thereafter, was called to the English Bar. She has been in legal practice in Malaysia with Skrine since 1985 and became a partner of the firm in Her commercial practice is broad and covers corporate insolvency, company and commercial litigation including recovery work, voluntary arrangements and restructuring, contracts, corporate wrongdoing and misfeasance, banking and finance, partnership, guarantees and other securities, directors duties and liabilities, shareholders disputes and receivership and liquidation. Her commercial litigation experience also encompasses acting in arbitrations and in expert determination. She has acted for office holders, companies, directors and debtors in all aspects of personal and corporate insolvency. 26 MOK CHEW YIN Prior to joining BDO in 2007, Mok was a partner in KPMG. He is presently the Head of Insolvency in BDO and is also a member of the MIA Insolvency Practice Sub-Committee and a Council Member of the Insolvency Practitioners Association of Malaysia ( IPAM ). He has also been involved in several projects of the Insolvency Practice Sub-Committee and IPAM including the development and update of Insolvency Guidance Notes and the review of the draft Insolvency Bill and the Companies Bill. Mok has been involved in numerous insolvency administrations such as receiverships, liquidations, restructuring, monitoring accountants as well as due diligence on non-performing loans and investigative audits in Malaysia and Australia. Such engagements involved the management of companies and assets prior to sale (especially receivership), developing sale strategies and advising, negotiating and executing sales of various types of assets including investments, properties, plant and equipment, vessels and inventories. He has also undertaken numerous valuations, financial due diligence and other corporate finance assignments locally and overseas including ports, power, water, roads, motor, construction, manufacturing, retail and property. He was also involved in several forensic engagements which included the investigation of the affairs of companies, specified transactions and validity of debtors. Mok also has over nine years of commercial experience. He was a Senior General Manager (Corporate Finance) in a large diversified group listed on Bursa Malaysia. His responsibilities included acquisitions & disposals, evaluating business proposals and joint ventures and were also a member of the senior management team overseeing the diversified operations of the Group which included manufacturing, property development and investment, healthcare, engineering and construction, financial services, leisure, infrastructure and utilities. He has seven years audit experience with a UK accounting firm and another five years restructuring and insolvency experience with KPMG in Melbourne, Australia.
