Bernard de Galembert Forest and Innovation Director, CEPI Born in 1966, Bernard de Galembert holds a Degree in Economics, with a specialisation in European Affairs.

2 Bernard de Galembert Forest and Innovation Director, CEPI Born in 1966, Bernard de Galembert holds a Degree in Economics, with a specialisation in European Affairs. From 1991 to 1994, he worked as Chief Economic Adviser to the Confederation of European Sugar Manufacturers (CEFS). He wrote two books on EU subsidies and programmes in favour of companies. From 1994 to 1996, he joined the European Farmers Union (COPA-COGECA) where, amongst other things, he was in charge of setting up and managing the Working Group on Forestry. In 1996, he was as the President s Adviser of the French Landowners Federation (FNPA). On the same year, he became Director General of a monthly trade magazine. He was later appointed Chief Policy Adviser of the European Landowners Organisation (ELO) in He joined CEPI as Forest Director in His competencies cover international (United Nations Forum on Forests, etc.) and European (Forest Europe, European Forestry Strategy, etc.) processes related to forestry, as well as policy areas such as wood supply for the European Paper Industry, certification of sustainable forestry, illegal logging, renewable energy sources, climate and forests, water and forests, etc. In parallel, he is actively involved in the global forest and paper organisation ICFPA (International Council of Forest and Paper Associations) Bernard de Galembert also dedicates part of his time in CEPI as Research & Innovation Director and as Social Affairs Director.

Currently Annita Westenbroek is involved in the preparation of the Biobased Industries PPP under Horizon Annita studied Chemical Engineering and received her PhD on the basis of a project towards refining of paper making fibres. She has been employed for 11 years at Wageningen UR, of which the last years being responsible for coordination of the research group focusing towards the pulp & paper industry. From 2006 until 2011 she was program manager at the Centre of Competence Paper and Board. At national level she coordinated the collective research on fibre raw materials for the Dutch paper and board industry and the Program Biorefinery of the Dutch Energy Transition in the Paper Chain.

Marco Mensink CEPI Deputy Director General Marco Mensink holds a Masters of Science Degree in Forestry and Business Management from the Agricultural University of Wageningen in the Netherlands.

5 Marco Mensink CEPI Deputy Director General Marco Mensink holds a Masters of Science Degree in Forestry and Business Management from the Agricultural University of Wageningen in the Netherlands. Before joining CEPI in March 2006, he worked for 6 years as Energy & Environment Director at the Royal Netherlands Paper and Board Association, also representing the Dutch industry in Brussels. Mr Mensink started his career at Ernst & Young Management Consulting, working there for six years in Environmental Management and assessing the environmental issues in mergers and acquisitions. As CEPI s Deputy Director General, he is responsible for Public Affairs and the Climate Change and Energy issues vis a vis the EU institutions, presenting the industries interests. He is the author of the CEPI 2050 roadmap and responsible for implantation of the roadmap in CEPI s activities in a.o. the European Innovation Partnerships on water and raw materials and the bio economy PPP. He currently coordinates the industry consortium on the Bio PPP. Mr Mensink is a Dutch national, born in 1968, married and has three children. He is now living in Brussels.

6 Mark Rushton RISI Mark Rushton is UK based and has worked in print, pulp and paper for a career spanning 30 years. He has been reporting on the pulp and paper industry for over 15 years and has visited mills and companies across the globe. He started on Papermaking and Distribution (PMD), Digital Printer and Print & Paper Monthly magazines. Mark has been the editor of Pulp & Paper International (PPI) magazine for the last four and a half years and is also responsible for overseeing content on the website and in Pulp & Paper International (PPI) China magazine. Mark is also the chairman of the PPI Awards judging panel, and chair of RISI s European conferences and regularly interviews the leading CEOs in the pulp and paper industry. Mark holds a City and Guilds in Printing and Allied Trades.

7 Pierre Lapointe President and Chief Executive Officer, FPInnovations Pierre Lapointe is President and Chief Executive Officer at FPInnovations since December 1st, In the last three years, under Pierre s leadership, FPInnovations has positioned itself as Canada s Forest Sector Innovation Hub. The organization has played a leadership role in developing the Transformative Technology Program for the Forest Sector and creating synergies to help implement numerous new technologies in various companies, thus enabling them to achieve new competitive advantages in today s market. FPInnovations scientific research has supported the Forest Industry with landmark projects, from building the world s first nanocrystalline cellulose demonstration plant in partnership with Domtar, in Windsor, Québec; to creating the most comprehensive CLT (crosslaminated timber) handbook for the construction industry; as well as touching on new transportation practices, bioproducts, and more. Pierre s previous work experience includes 10 years as CEO of the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) - a research university comprised of a network of four research centres recognized internationally for their activities in four major areas natural resources, nanotechnologies, biomedical and applied social sciences. Prior to this appointment he spent 7 years as Vice-rector, Research of INRS and was in charge of developing the strategic planning for the organization and managing all research activities, development and evaluation of MSc and PhD programs. Trained as a geologist and geophysicist, he began his career at Natural Resources Canada, where he worked in research and management with various research teams, then as Senior Science Advisor to the Minister and Director of the Polar Continental Shelf Project (PCSP). He was subsequently appointed Director General of the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) Information and Services Branch, where he created the Quebec Geoscience Center (QGC) as part of a unique partnership between a university institute (INRS) and a government agency (GSC) a component of NRCAN with offices across Canada. Throughout his career, Pierre played a pivotal role in the successful completion of many impressive projects including the integration of Institut Armand-Frappier and l Institut québécois de recherche sur la culture to INRS, the merging of eight INRS research centers into four strategic sectors, the creation of Biotech City in Laval, the development of the Centre National de Biologie Expérimentale (CNBE) in partnership with the CHUM and the CANVAC network, and the establishment of a multidisciplinary CAT-scan laboratory, the Laboratory of Micro and Nanofabrication (LMN), and the International Advanced Laser Light Source (ALLS) Laboratory.

8 Pierre Lapointe - continued In this area, he achieved the union of university, business, and scientific communities among which the creation of the Cité de la Biotechnologie et de la santé humaine, contributed to make Laval the hub of public health research that is recognized around the world. The Laval Chamber of Commerce and Industry awarded Pierre the 2008 Prix Hommage for his exceptional input to the economic and scientific vitality of the region by referring to him as one of the greatest architects of Laval s new economic face. He also initiated numerous agreements and partnerships with the global scientific community while taking an integrated development approach to international research and training. The INRS now has some thirty partnerships in place with institutions in 15 countries, including France, Tunisia, Argentina, Vietnam, Italy, Mexico, the United States and India. In May 2009, Pierre Lapointe was named an Officer of France s Ordre national des palmes académiques for his efforts in building academic ties between Quebec and France.

9 Isabelle Des Chênes Vice President, Market Relations and International Trade, FPAC Isabelle Des Chênes is vice president of market relations and international trade for FPAC. She is responsible for files affecting the environmental reputation and market acceptance of Canadian pulp, paper and wood products in international markets. She is also responsible for FPAC s international trade files. Previously, she was Vice President, Market Relations with Forestry Innovation Investment s (FII) Market Outreach program of the government of British Columbia. Isabelle brings nearly 20 years public relations and communications experience in both the private and public sectors. Prior to FII, she was director of communications with the FPAC and the Canadian Tourism Commission. She managed public relations and communications for technology firms Cognos and Fulcrum Technologies, and with the House of Commons Public Information Office in Ottawa.
