He was also chair of Development Studies from 2009 to He is a Founding Fellow of the European Union Development Network (EUDN) and Senior Fellow at the Fondation pour les études et recherches en développement international (FERDI). He was assistant and then Associate Professor at the University of Montréal, and Professor at the Centre d'etudes et de Recherches en Développement International (CERDI). He has been a consultant to the World Bank, the Gates Foundation, the FAO, the UNDP, and several national governments. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Philippe Burrin has been the Director of the Graduate Institute since He was also Professor in the International History Department from 1993 to 2004 and was an invited faculty member at Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt, at the Institute of Political Studies in Paris and at the University of Lausanne. He was also a Fellow at Oxford s All Souls College, at Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, at the French Centre for Research in Jerusalem and at Harvard s Centre for European Studies. He is Member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Finance and Development (CFD). Miriam L. Campanella is a Jean Monnet Professor at the University of Turin and a Senior Fellow at the European Center of International Political Economy (ECIPE), Brussels. She has contributed to several books and journals, including co-authoring EU Economic Governance and Globalization with Sylvester C.W. Eijffinger in She also worked at the Minister of Economy and Finance in Rome from 2001 to Her current research focuses on China s global-scope financial projection, East-Asia financial integration and the region s attempts to build up independent monetary and financial facilities. She also carried out intensive research on Euro monetary and financial policies, the impact of the financial crisis in Western and Emerging Economies, and the creation of sovereign wealth funds. Jiazhi has over 19 years investment experience with a main focus on the management and research of Asian equities. Alicia García-Herrero is Chief Economist for Emerging Markets at Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) since December She also serves as special advisor to the European Commission on China issues, non-resident Faculty at China-Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai, Adjunct Professor at City University of Hong Kong, and as member of the Advisory Board of the Hong Kong Institute of Monetary Research (HKIMR). In previous years, Alicia held the following positions in this order: Member of the Asian Research Program of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), Head of the International Economy Division of the Bank of Spain, Member of the Counsel to the Executive Board of the European Central Bank, Head of Emerging Economies at the Research Department at Banco Santander and Economist at the International Monetary Fund. Finally, Alicia has also held professor positions at different universities including Johns Hopkins, Hong Kong University. Alicia holds a Ph.D. in Economics from George Washington University and a graduate degree in International Economics from Kiel Institute of World Economics. Yi Huang is Assistant Professor in International Economics and Pictet Chair in Finance and Development at the Graduate Institute with expertise in International macroeconomics and finance, and emerging markets. His current research projects include precautionary saving, liquid asset holding, and FX reserves as well as the effects of valuation adjustment on external wealth. Previously an economist in the Research Department at the International Monetary Fund, He also serves as the research associate at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, Visiting Research Fellow at the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary Research of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and also visiting assistant professor in Economics at London Business School. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the London Business School and a Master in Economics from the China Centre for Economic Research in Beijing University. Paul Inderbinen is Deputy Head of Multilateral Affairs at the State Secretariat for International Financial Matters and Head of the International Financial Institutions section. He has served as Advisor to the Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C. The previous positions he held in the Swiss Federal Finance Department include Economist and Deputy Head of Section in the Monetary, Economic and Financial Affairs Division. Prior to joining the Federal Finance Department, he was a Teaching and Research Assistant in the Economics Department of the University of Fribourg. Gero Jung is Chief Economist within Mirabaud Asset Management and member of Mirabaud s Investment Committee. Prior to joining Mirabaud in 2012, Mr Jung was Global Macro Economist for Zurich Financial Services, Senior Economist for the Swiss National Bank and Advisor to the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund. Mr Jung worked previously for UBS, the World Bank, ABN Amro and Deutsche Bank. Mr Jung holds a PhD in International Economics from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. He was also a Research Fellow in the field of international macro-economics and finance at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston. Page 2 of 5
3 Robert McCauley is Senior Adviser in the Monetary and Economic Department of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel. In he served as Chief Representative for Asia and the Pacific of the BIS after joining the BIS Asian Office in Before joining the BIS, he worked for 13 years for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York serving at times as chief economist for the interagency committee of bank supervisors that rates country risk. There he wrote on international comparisons of the cost of capital, foreign bank lending to US corporations and the unprofitability of foreign direct investment in the US. In 1988, he worked for the Joint Economic Committee of the US Congress. In 1992 he taught international finance and the multinational firm at the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business. He serves on the Council of Management of SUERF, the European Money and Finance Forum. Dewet Moser is Alternate Member of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank in Department III (Financial Markets, Banking Operations and Information Technology) and has, as such, headed Financial Markets at the SNB since May 2007 (Money Market and Foreign Exchange, Asset Management, Financial Market Analysis and the Singapore branch office). Prior to this position, he held a research position at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (USA), and headed the Monetary Operations advisory function at the SNB. From 1997 on, he was entrusted with the establishment and management of risk management at the SNB. Mr. Moser is also a member of the Board of Directors and of the Executive Board of the old age and survivors insurance compensation fund. Ugo Panizza is Professor of Economics and Pictet Chair at the Graduate Institute, Geneva. He is also the head of the Department of International Economics and the Deputy-Director of the Institute's Centre on Finance and Development. Prior to joining the Institute, Ugo was the Chief of the Debt and Finance Analysis Unit at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. He also worked at the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank and was an assistant professor of economics at the American University of Beirut and the University of Turin. His research interests include international finance, sovereign debt, banking, and political economy. He is a former member of the executive committee of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association (LACEA) and an editor of the Association's journal Economia. He is also a member of the editorial board of The World Bank Economic Review, the Journal of Economic Systems, and the Review of Economics and Institutions. He holds a PhD in Economics from The Johns Hopkins University and a Laurea from the University of Turin. Eswar S. Prasad, is the Tolani Senior Professor of Trade Policy at Cornell University (USA). He is also a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, where he holds the New Century Chair in International Economics, and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. He was previously Chief of the Financial Studies Division in the International Monetary Fund's Research Department and, before that, was the head of the IMF's China Division. Mr Prasad has testified before the Senate Finance Committee, the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services and the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, and his research on China has been cited in the U.S. Congressional Record. Many of his research papers and quotes from his speeches have been cited extensively in prominent media and he has made frequent appearances on BBC, Bloomberg, CNBC, CNN, C-SPAN, Fox, NBC, NPR, PBS, Reuters and other radio and television channels. He is the creator of the Brookings-Financial Times world index TIGER: Tracking Indices for the Global Economic Recovery; and his latest book is The Dollar Trap: How the U.S. Dollar Tightened Its Grip on Global Finance (Princeton University Press, February 2014). 4 Carlos Primo Braga is Professor of International Political Economy at IMD and Director of the Evian Group, an international coalition united by a common vision of enhancing global prosperity by fostering an open, inclusive and equitable global market economy in a rulesbased multilateral framework. His areas of special interest include international trade, foreign direct investment, economics of innovation, intellectual property rights, sovereign debt, global governance and development economics. Before joining IMD in September 2012, he was the Special Representative and Director for Europe, External Affairs (EXT) Vice-Presidency, The World Bank ( ). At the World Bank he was also Director, Economic Policy and Debt ( ) and, in 2010, he was the Acting Vice President and Corporate Secretary of the World Bank Group and Acting Executive Secretary of the Development Committee. He holds a PhD (1984) in Economics from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, USA. Alexandre Swoboda is Professor of International Economics Emeritus at the Graduate Institute. A Professor at the Institute since 1969, he served as its Director from 1990 to He was also Professeur associé at the University of Geneva. Among his teaching appointments, he served as Visiting Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Business of the University of Chicago and as Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics, the University of Lausanne and Harvard University. He was the Founding Director of the International Center for Monetary and Banking Studies and served as President of the Swiss Society for Economics and Statistics. A member of the Council of the Swiss National Bank from 1997 to 2009, he served as a Senior Policy Advisor at the International Monetary Fund from mid-1998 to January His main interests include open economy macroeconomics, international monetary economics, exchange-rate regimes, and international financial market issues. He holds a Ph.D. from Yale University. Cédric Tille is Professor of International Economics at the Graduate Institute, and Scientific and General Director of the Bilateral Assistance and Capacity Building for Central Banks (BCC) programme, which is jointly funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the Graduate Institute. Prior to joining the Institute, he worked for nine years in the International Research Function of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. His research focuses on the impact of financial globalization on economic linkages between countries. It encompasses both theoretical contributions on how to include international financial flows in workhorse models in international economics, as well as applied works highlighting how financial integration alters our understanding of international integration. Professor Tille has published extensively in scientific journals. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from Princeton University, USA, and since May 2011, he is a member of the Bank Council of the Swiss National Bank. Qing Wu is Senior Research Fellow at the Development Research Centre (DRC) of the State Council of China (Beijing), and Deputy Director at Research Institute of Finance, an affiliate of the DRC. He is honored to be professor at Dalian University of Technology, and independent non-executive board member of Chongqing Rural Commercial Bank, a listed company on Hong Kong Exchange. He was Visiting Fellow at the Institute for International Monetary Affairs in Tokyo ( ), and Chief Economist of a Shanghai Exchange listed company before He has written many articles for media such as Mingpao (Hong Kong), the China Economic Times (Beijing), the Shanghai Securities News (shanghai), and FTChinese Online. 5 Raoul Würgler is Deputy Secretary General of the Association of Foreign Banks in Switzerland since Among others, he is in charge of foreign financial firms interest representation in the realms of merchant banking and asset management. In this context, he lobbies for several years for the creation of a competence centre of the RMB business in Switzerland. Gathering 130 institutes, the group of foreign banks is the biggest group of banks in Switzerland. Raoul Würgler graduated in politics from the University of Lausanne. Hui Yan is Research Fellow at the Centre for Finance and Development (CFD) of The Graduate Institute in Geneva. Prior to this position, she was the Executive Director and the Chief Representative of UBS Asia Securities Co. Ltd in Beijing from 2011 to 2013, the Vice President of HOPU Private Equity Investment from 2008 to 2011, and the Deputy Director of Supervisory Rules and Regulations Department at China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) from 2003 to She holds a Master degree from Harvard University and a PhD degree in economics from Renmin University of China. Hui Zeng is the director of international finance division of the Research Bureau of the People s Bank of China. His research focuses on monetary theory and global finance governance. It encompasses both theoretical study as well as applied works, such as Chinese economic analysis, interest rate liberalization, exchange rate liberalization, RMB capital account convertibility, and international monetary system reform. Patrick Zweifel is Chief Economist at Pictet Asset Management. Before assuming his current position in 2009, he was head of Macro Research at Pictet Private Wealth Management. In particular, he had economic research responsibility for emerging markets and Japan, and for the development of quantitative models on major asset classes, primarily foreign exchange models. Before joining Pictet he was a research assistant in econometrics and monetary theory and worked on international research projects for the World Bank and the European Union. Between 1999 and 2004, he taught macroeconomics at the University of Lausanne and in different post-graduate studies at Geneva. He holds a PhD in econometrics from the University of Lausanne.
