8 Page 8 Lisa Sabol ext cell: MHF developed two custom, hybrid fabric/metal packaging systems for use in dispositioning transuranic radioactive waste at a U.S. DOE site. MHF developed prototypes of two different, IP-1 packages. One is an 81 cubic foot transport package for flowable sand or sand-like materials. The package is placed inside a custom-built metal loading frame for loading and securing and then removed from the frame and secured to a pallet for transport. The other package is a cover-and-pan style overpack in which a pan is placed on a custombuilt metal pallet and secured. A wooden box is placed in the pan and then Velcro is used to secure the cover to the pan. The pan, cover and box are secured to a metal transport pallet with tie-down straps. MHF worked closely with the client to refine the designs to accommodate site-specific conditions and work practices. For example, MHF supplied a Geofelt cap to be placed over the wooden box to protect the overpack from sharps when the cover is secured to the pan. MHF has begun producing the components for 500 transport packages and 800 overpacks for the project. MHF Services is an integrated packaging, transportation and logistics provider offering seamless solutions for generators and shippers of radioactive, hazardous, and nonhazardous waste, materials, and byproducts. MHF provides transportation and logistics solutions to U.S. Department of Energy contractors, and companies in the nuclear utilities, environmental services, energy, mining, metals, chemical, and petrochemical industries. John Kremer P.O. Box 890 Groton, CT Phone: support@rpsct.com Radiation Protection Systems, Inc. supplied the largest Perma-Con ever built to Los Alamos National Laboratory, measuring 18 tall by 110 long with a clear span 48 wide to be used for the repackaging of legacy transuranic (TRU) waste for permanent disposal. The massive size of the 375 box line facility is able to accommodate the largest waste storage boxes, giving Los Alamos the capability to safely dispose of large volumes of highly contaminated waste. This record-breaking Perma-Con was designed using IBC methodology including seismic forces. It was also classified as a Performance Category 1 SSC for natural phenomena hazards. The Perma-Con was fabricated and delivered on schedule in 17 weeks. RPS provided onsite engineering support during the construction phase of this project. Mechanical assembly took approximately 5 weeks. RPS also provided a waste processing enclosure for the TRU Waste Processing Center in Lenoir City, TN. The main enclosure was 27-4 x 8-10 x 12-6 high and included a double chamber airlock 8 L x 4 W. The enclosure featured fire resistant polycarbonate windows, an electrically operated 8 x 8 rollup door, lighting, electrical accommodations, ventilation ports and a differential pressure cascade monitoring station. Structural calculations were provided to demonstrate building capability to withstand 3 in. wg. negative pressure, and seismic qualification to the International Building Code(IBC) Group III criteria. The design and fabrication effort employed a project specific Quality Assurance plan that met applicable requirements of 10 CFR Quality Assurance Requirements.

11 Page 11 New to this 2013 BOC: Small Group Sessions Helping you Make Wise Business Choices The 2013 ETEBA Business opportunities conference is offering two workshops on Wednesday afternoon, November 13, to help businesses position themselves for potential contract opportunities one to assist companies with obtaining GSA schedule contracts, and one to help companies determine whether or not they wish to pursue NQA-1 certification. Getting Started With GSA Schedules will be lead by Jan Zeigler, GSA FAS SC Customer Service Director. Jan describes the process as follows: First, you must carefully consider whether or not you have the resources to pursue a Schedules contract, and the time to both market and compete for business once you have a contract. Submitting an offer involves many steps, and the process may take months to complete. However, submissions are accepted continuously, allowing you to decide when to pursue the solicitation process. Fit: Do the products and/or services we offer fit with a Schedules solicitation? Price: Can you compete with current contractors on GSA Schedules? Time: Do you have the time and resources to dedicate towards responding to a Schedules solicitation, administrating the contract and marketing the contract to ordering activities? Getting on Schedule is just the beginning you must also have the staff and capability to manage and market your business with a schedule contract, E-TOOLS, and opportunity websites. Making an Informed Business Decision on NQA1 will be led by Gary Gilmartin, President, Gilmartin Engineering Works. This workshop provides an overview of quality requirements related to doing work on a complex nuclear project such as UPF. Key managers must have sufficient knowledge to know how to move forward with becoming compliant, if necessary, with the QA performance requirements associated with a project like this. Knowing how your business can adapt to implement changes to become QA compliant in the most cost effective manner as well as when to make these changes is a critical decision as you pursue new nuclear or complex energy markets. IF THIS IS YOU, YOU NEED TO BE AT THE 2013 BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES CONFERENCE Companies seeking to identify near, mid and longer-term business opportunities with government or commercial entities in the energy, technology, environmental, engineering, construction and technical service sectors. Companies interested in doing business with government agencies or prime contractors, either as a prime contractor, teaming partner, subcontractor or supplier. Businesses interested in providing services and supplies to other businesses, or looking for ways to leverage their capabilities and experience to expand into new markets or gain new customers.
