The Shanghai Conference organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Facility Management was held on 6-7 November 2008 in the conference hall of Tomorrow Square, JW Marriott Hotel. An incomparable conference had attracted over 200 delegates from Hong Kong, overseas and PRC to attend. The Shanghai conference had achieved significant results by forming a truly remarkable platform to share and exchange various kinds of dynamic FM knowledge in managing our portfolios during critical financial meltdown. It is an honour to have our president, Mr Stephen Chung, to report the highlights of the great conference. Our president, Mr Stephen Chung presented the souvenir on stage to presenters at the conference together with the Moderator, Dr Eric Chan. President s Speech Dear Members and Readers, We have had a successful China Real Estate Conference which was recently held in Shanghai from November 6-7 at the JW Marriott Hotel. There were close to 200 participants comprising executives, professionals, and academics, from both China / Hong Kong and overseas, who are collectively involved in real estate development, investment, financing, fund management, asset management, and facility management. And this despite the still unfolding global credit crunch. During the conference, we got to learn of the dangers, the opportunities, and the rewards which may exist now or in future for investors involved in China real estate, plus ways to capture such returns and to eliminate such risks, FM methodologies included, from the various esteemed and experienced speakers. The audience appeared to be interested in the what, where, when, why, and how, and in turn the speakers offered very stimulating angles and insights not necessarily found in general media news and reporting. 1

Naturally, a conference of this scale and caliber happens not because of the sole effort and ability of any single individual or even any single institute. In fact, the HKIFM owed much of the success of this conference to the many individuals and organizations who had in various ways and capacities contributed significantly toward its smooth operation.
