1 CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF February 28, :30 P.M., 200 GUC The UNA Curriculum Committee met at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, in the GUC room 200. The following members were present: Dr. Jana Beaver, Dr. Mel Blake, Dr. Joy Borah, Dr. Lisa Clayton, Dr. Cameron Gren, Dr. Lamont Maddox, Dr. Andrew Potter, Dr. Lee Raney, and Dr. Kellie Winkles. Dr. Scott Infanger, Chairperson, presided. Visitors were: Dr. Francis Koti, Dr. Amy Crews, and Dr. Amber Paulk. Agenda Motion to approve by Dr. Maddox and a second by Dr. Clayton, the agenda was unanimously Minutes Minutes stand approved by acclamation. Consideration of the request from the Department of HSHD for two new courses (HES 450 and HES 451) with HES 450 replacing HES 422 and HES 451 added to the list of Art/Design History elective options Will not be deleting HES 422, keeping on in the catalog for students on older catalogs. Renumber the syllabus on page 9 to 451. On motion by Dr. Beaver and second by Dr. Harris, the motion was unanimously Consideration of the request from the Department of HSHD to require Interior Design students to take AR 281 or AR 282 in area II of the General Education component to comply with the Art History requirement for accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) On motion by Dr. Maddox and second by Dr. Harris, the motion was unanimously Consideration of the request from the Department of HSHD to consider HES 264 as the computer literacy course for Interior Design Students On motion by Dr. Harris and second by Dr. Gren, the motion was unanimously Consideration of the request from the Department of HSHD to add AR 221 and AR 231 as electives to Area V requirements for Interior Design and Merchandising Students Footnote should move up to CIS 125 on page 193 of the catalog. On motion by Dr. Harris and second by Dr. Gren, the motion was unanimously
2 Consideration of the request from the Department of HSHD to make minor revisions to course title, description, credit hours, or prerequisite for the following courses: HES 100, HES 261, HES 264, HES 274, HES 310, HES 323, HES 324, HES 340, HES 341W, HES 343, HES 345, HES 354, HES 400, HES 459, HES 465, HES 497 On motion by Dr. Beaver and second by Dr. Clayton, the motion was unanimously Consideration of the request from the Department of HSHD for the addition of two new minors: Design Build Technology and Kitchen and Bath On motion by Dr. Winkles and second by Dr. Harris, the motion was unanimously Consideration of the request from the Department of HSHD for the addition of two new certificate programs: Design Build Technology and Kitchen and Bath On motion by Dr. Harris and second by Dr. Potter, the motion was unanimously Will be an information item for ACHE. Consideration of the request from the Department of HSHD for a revision of the name of the Merchandising Concentration to Fashion Merchandising Concentration On motion by Dr. Maddox and second by Dr. Winkles, the motion was unanimously Consideration of the request from the Department of HSHD for nine new courses: CNH 250, CNH 305, CNH 333, CNH 335, CNH 337, CNH 339, CNH 365, CNH 441W, CNH 499 On motion by Dr. Beaver and second by Dr. Harris, the motion was unanimously Add on sufficient demand for courses with missing course patterns. Consideration of the request from the Department of HSHD to revise course number, description, and hours for CNH 432 (which will become CNH 251) and CNH 433 (which will become CNH 112). Course fee from CNH 112 (formally CNH 433) will be removed since there is no longer a lab associated On motion by Dr. Beaver and second by Dr. Winkles, the motion was unanimously Remove course fee from the CNH 112. Page 72 Advisor approved is missing the a. Consider the following requests together from the Department of HSHD: CNH 112 (formally CNH 433) will be moved from D. Major Concentrations to B. Additional Requirements ; therefore, replacing HES or CNH electives in Area V to better align with the STARS transfer agreement.
3 On motion by Dr. Beaver and second by Dr. Maddox, the motion was unanimously CNH 455 or CNH 426 will move from D. Major Concentrations and replace HES 433 (Family Development) in C. Major Core Requirements. Motion was unanimously Therapeutic Nutrition Student Concentration must take CNH 455 (Quantity Food Production) Motion was unanimously Replace courses moved to Area V or common core from concentrations or minor in HSHD with Advisor Approved CNH Electives. Motion was unanimously Remove 9 hours of additional hours from the Hospitality Management concentration to reduce hours Motion was unanimously Consideration of the request from the Department of HSHD for minor revisions to the prerequisites for the following courses: CNH 221, CNH 326, CNH 330, CNH 332, CNH 426, CNH 431, CNH 442, CNH 452, and CNH 455 On motion by Dr. Gren and second by Dr. Maddox, the motion was unanimously Consideration of the request from the Department of HSHD for a revision of the name of Food Service Management Concentration to Dietary Management Concentration On motion by Dr. Harris and second by Dr. Winkles, the motion was unanimously Consideration of the request from the Department of HSHD for the editorial addition of minor requirement to CNH degree that was inadvertently omitted with the separation of the CNH and HES majors On motion by Dr. Potter and second by Dr. Gren, the motion was unanimously Consideration of the request from the Department of HSHD to replace MG 350 with CNH 431 in Food Management minor On motion by Dr. Clayton and second by Dr. Harris, the motion was unanimously
4 Consideration of the request from the Department of HSHD to add a Nutrition Minor On motion by Dr. Beaver and second by Dr. Harris, the motion was unanimously Consideration of the request from the Department of Geography that students completing a degree in Geography or GIS will be required to participate in an experiential learning activity On motion by Dr. Blake and second by Dr. Harris, the motion was unanimously Consideration of the request from the Department of Geography to add to Geography and GIS BS programs the new course GE 184 (Digital Earth) and remove the required course GE 225 (Maps and Map Interpretation). Course fee of $30.00 same as GIS 225 course fee On motion by Dr. Harris and second by Dr. Maddox, the motion was unanimously Need to check the box for revising a prerequisite. Change the offering to be offered on sufficient demand. Consideration of the request from the Department of Nursing for the editorial change. Currently RN-MSN students take NU 502, NU 503, and NU 508. NU 503 content is being integrated into NU 502. NU 503 will be replaced by NU 509.
