As you can see from our latest Scorecard, with three years of our 5-year Imagine Jackson 2020 Campaign completed, we are at 94% (1,405/1,500) of our job goal. In 2018, The EG, along with our partners at the Blackman LDFA, played a leadership role in the acquisition of 180 acres in Blackman Charter Township for a new industrial park. We continue to work to develop the parcel so that it is shovel ready for new and expanding businesses, including addressing zoning, infrastructure and transportation needs. Talent and workforce initiatives are a top priority for The EG as we work with our partners in higher education and business. JAC3, FIRST Robotics/FTC, MFG Day, and the Skills PACT, are all programs that The EG is deeply involved in as ways to enhance our talent pool for the future. The EG would not be in a position to provide leadership on these initiatives without the support of our investors, education leaders, and community partners. 7 Community Engagement and Partnerships Jackson County STUDENT PACT- Recipient of 2018 Marshall Plan Award The Jackson County Career Readiness Talent Consortium was awarded $500,000 in December to implement a comprehensive talent pipeline initiative for high school students. The award is a result of a partnership between 35 education, business and community entities, including The EG. The Marshall Plan award was only one of nine statewide. The Employability PACT, which is a component of the Marshall Plan grant, is an endorsed certification that all Jackson County high school seniors can earn as a result of demonstrating proficiency in Personal Management, Adaptability, Communication and Teamwork/Collaboration. These targeted proficiencies were identified as priorities in a 2016 Jackson County employer survey conducted by the EG and community partners. Results highlighted the lack of soft skills for potential entry level job candidates. What are some common obstacles you have to hiring new employees? Check all that apply. Michigan workers manufactured nearly 2.1 million vehicles across 23 models, accounting for 18.5 percent of all U.S. production. For every one worker in manufacturing, there are another four employees hired elsewhere. Over the next decade, nearly 3 ½ million manufacturing jobs will likely be needed, and 2 million are expected to go unfilled due to the skills gap. Michigan is home to 96 of the top 100 suppliers to North America.
