3 Brother for Brother Firefighter Remembrance Please join us in honoring the 343 Firefighters who perished on 9/11! On September 28, 2014, we will continue to follow the footsteps of Stephen Siller and all others who perished on 9/11. The FDNY and the family of Firefighter Stephen Siller request your participation in the 13 th Annual Firefighter Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Run/Walk. We are again inviting fire departments throughout the country to join the New York City Fire Department in honoring Stephen and all the 343 firefighters who died on the day that forever will be known as 9/11. Become part of the Brother for Brother Firefighter Remembrance. On September 11, 2001 Firefighter Stephen Siller had completed his tour and was heading home to his wife and 5 young children. When Stephen heard on his scanner what had happened, he turned his vehicle around and raced back to his firehouse in Brooklyn to get his gear. When, for security reasons he was prohibited from entering the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, he got out of his vehicle, and, with his gear strapped to his back, he began his heroic run. He was last seen alive at the World Trade Center site where he and so many others gave their lives so that others might live. For the past twelve years, thousands of people from across the United States and from abroad have retraced Stephen s footsteps from the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center site. Last year over 250 firefighters from England joined us and more are expected this year. As you can see by the picture above, 686 Members of the FDNY, joined by Firefighters from around the country and world held American flags and picture banners of each of their fallen brothers. They hold the flags outside the tunnel while cheering on thousands of runners and walkers. What a moving tribute to them all! WE ARE REQUESTING THAT EACH COMPANY: Recruit a 3-member firefighter team to participate in the actual run. You can enter more than 1 team. The first team entered must raise $1,000.00, each additional team must raise $500. each and will have a choice to designate ½ of the total amount raised to: o o Funds raised go to burn centers to support fellow firefighters who have been injured in the line of duty or to support our catastrophically injured service members through our Building for America s Bravest program. For each 3-member team sent, we request a minimum of ONE (1) flag holders/banner carriers in Class A Uniform The1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd place teams receive a plaque. The Team that raises the most funds will receive for each 3-man team member, a T2T Commemorative Windbreaker and Hat. If you joined us last year, please come and join us again. This event is becoming the 9/11 event and we would love for all of the fire departments nationwide to join us in honoring all those who perished on that horrific day. We will never forget! A quote from a firefighter/marathoner from London, It s the best run in the world! If you have any questions or want further details, please contact LT. Rob Vogt, at , VOGT4403@aol.com or LT.Brian Minardo, at ( ), or BrianMinardo@gmail.com.
