6 BIOGRAPHIES Vladimir Šucha is Director-General of the Joint Research Centre. He was Deputy Director-General of the JRC between 2012 and Prior to that, he spent 6 years in the position of director for culture and media in the Directorate-General for Education and Culture of the European Commission. Before joining the European Commission, he held various positions in the area of European and international affairs. Between 2005 and 2006, he was director of the Slovak Research and Development Agency, national body responsible for funding research. He was principal advisor for European affairs to the minister of education of the Slovak Republic ( ). He worked at the Slovak Representation to the EU in Brussels as research, education and culture counselor ( ). In parallel, he has followed a long-term academic and research career, being a full professor in Slovakia and visiting professor/scientist at different academic institutions in many countries. Markku Markkula is the former President of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR). After his Presidency he has served as the First Vice-President of the CoR. On these he has had many influential role in the EU policy. He is the President of the Helsinki Region (Chair of the Board of the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council), and the Chair of the Board of the second largest city in Finland Espoo. He is a former member of the Finnish Parliament ( ). As an MP his international role included the Presidency of EPTA Council, European Parliamentary Technology Assessment Network. The professional experience of Mr Markkula includes the EU Policy Advisor to the Aalto University Presidents ( ), the Aalto University Transformation Team Member ( ), within the Helsinki University of Technology he served as the Director of the Lifelong Learning Institute Dipoli ( , ) and the Director of the Centre for Continuing Education ( ). Enrico Luzzatto joined the EPO in 1989 as an examiner first in The Hague, then as of 1993 in Munich. In 1998 he passed the European Qualifying Examination. He became Director in February 2010 in the cluster Pure and Applied Organic Chemistry. He was also active in the training of EPO examiners (both at beginners and advanced levels). He has given lectures on biotechnology and chemical patenting issues as well as on procedural matters at a number of conferences and seminars and represented the EPO at various sessions of the WIPO IGC on TCEs, Genetic Resources and Traditional Knowledge. In January 2018 he joined the European Patent Academy as Senior Advisor. Xavier Troussard is Acting Director of the Competences Directorate at the Joint Research Centre. He is also specifically leading the Foresight, behavioural insights and design for Policy Unit in the same Directorate. The mission of this Unit is to support policy making at EU level with insights from anticipation disciplines (horizon scanning, foresight), behavioural sciences and design thinking. He joined the Commission in 1989 at the DG for Information, Communication, Culture and Audio-visual where he represented, among others, the EC in the negotiation of the 2005 UNESCO Convention on the protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions. As Head of the Culture policy, diversity and Intercultural dialogue Unit in the DG for Education and Culture and later as Acting Director he developed various strategies for the culture and creative industries and contributed to the shaping of the EU Creative Europe Programme and managed its MEDIA sub-programme. Myriam Ferran has been working at the European Commission since 2001 after being involved in the French Administration for almost a decade. Since 2001, Mrs Ferran has been supporting the work of the European Commission in various capacities, in DG ELARG, DG TREN, the Cabinet of Enlargement Commissioner Mr Rehn, and DG NEAR. After leading the work of units which respectively managed the EU relationship with Iceland, Serbia and Turkey, she was appointed Director in charge of the Turkish Strategy in Prior to joining the Commission, Mrs Ferran has also held various position of administrator in the French ministry of budget and agriculture, and was deputy head of cabinet of French Minister for Environment Mr Voynet. Henric Rhedin is the current President of ASTP-Proton and works for Gothenburg University in Sweden. He has long experience from the university sector as a researcher in Theoretical High Energy Physics. In addition to this he has substantial experience from leading positions in industry, as well as technology transfer. His industrial experience covers both large companies, small companies and spin off's from universities in various technology sectors. Henric has been board member of several companies and organizations over the last 10 years. He has worked in technology transfer at Chalmers University and Gothenburg University and holds extensive national and international networks in technology transfer, industry and academia. He has initiated the Swedish Network for Innovation and Technology Transfer Support and have in the past been a part of ASTP-Proton professional development committee for several years.

7 Muriel Attané is the Secretary General of EARTO, the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations, since July She is a senior EU public affairs professional with 15 years of significant experience in EU public relations, public affairs, business/legal advising, consultancy and communications. She is specialist of EU Research & Innovation policy & funding programmes with large experience in EU fundraising (subsidies & B2B). Before joining EARTO, Muriel Attané was Secretary General of EARPA, the European Association of Automotive R&D Organisations for seven years. In parallel, she worked as EU affairs manager for more than 10 years for TNO (Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research), the largest Dutch RTO. Nicolas Carboni is leading Bpifrance Deeptech Plan, a 1.8B initiative to boost the creation and development of deeptech start-ups in France. Prior to joining Bpifrance, the french public bank for innovation, Nicolas was Chairman & CEO of Conectus, piloting a 40M POC fund and managing technology transfer and research collaboration for over 4000 researchers in public laboratories in Alsace. Nicolas has 25 years experience in innovation management and technology transfer, and has a background in law, business administration and engineering. Paola Cervo works as Programme Manager at the European Commission, DG DEVCO. She joined the Commission in 2013, after working for several years with non-governmental organisations in Europe and Africa, mainly in the field of education. Paola manages the EU portfolio of programmes in support of science, technology, research and innovation in African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) countries. The programmes represent a unique effort to support these countries' transition towards knowledge-based and inclusive economies by upgrading their research and innovation capabilities. Paola holds a MA in economics from Università Bocconi and a MBA from The Open University Business School. Ramona Samson is currently Deputy Head of Unit for 'Investments and SMEs', at the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, European Commission. She provides advice as regards the design of ways to increasing private finance and closing the market gaps in R&I investments. Until 2012, she held various positions at the Directorate-General for Trade. She holds a PhD from Copenhagen Business School. Marie Asano completed her PhD in nanochemistry/biophysics and polymer science at the universities of Liège and Bordeaux, after which she then obtained an MBA at the Collège des Ingénieurs. Currently she is an investment manager at High-Tech Gründerfonds specializing in early-stage investments, and in addition the lead contact person for all activities relating to chemistry. Sandra Ferri is Head of Technology Transfer Investments at the European Investment Fund. She joined EIF in 2009 as an Investment Analyst and then Investment Manager within the Venture Capital team (now Innovation and Technology Investments team), where she led investments in Venture Capital funds across all sectors and geographies and monitored EIF s participations in those funds by notably actively participating in Advisory Board and Investors meetings. Sandra has notably led the deployment of the Itatech programme, a EUR 200m mandate for which EIF and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti joined forces to develop the Technology Transfer ecosystem in Italy. Prior to joining EIF, Sandra worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Luxembourg, auditing real estate structures and mutual funds, as well as undertaking several advisory roles. She holds a masters degree in International Finance from the Institut d Administration des Entreprises -Ecole Supérieure de Management of Metz.

8 Hans Boumans is head of Technology Transfer at TNO, the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research. TNO and its over 3000 professionals connect people and knowledge to create innovations that sustainably boost the competitive strength of industry and the welfare of society. Hans is responsible for TNO s strategy regarding technology transfer, more specifically regarding spin-off creation and licensing. Before that, he was director of the Patents & Licensing department at TNO for two years, which department he joined in 2008 as a licensing associate. In that position, he negotiated numerous license agreements with companies that wanted to turn TNO s innovations into products. Prior to that, he worked in various positions within TNO s theme Healthy Living, starting as a scientist. In 2007, Hans was elected in the Scientific American Top 50. Since 2015, Hans is also a board member of the pension fund of TNO and board member of TTO Circle. Andrea Alunni is a world leading expert of Technology-Transfer, IP & management of Seed Funds. He has solid track record in implementing & executing business strategies (from idea conception to operations) and wide experience at SMEs Board of Directors level. He joined Oxford University Technology Transfer Office in August 2008 as Head of New Venture Support and Funding to assist the University to manage operations and invest at proof-of-concept level and raise finance for progressing technology spinouts. Senior Advisor to OUI and Chairman of LINKS and ISMB since 2016, in March 2018 Andrea chaired the 1st EUIPO Technology Transfer workshop in Alicante and in July 2018 the 1st EPO Technology Transfer conference in Munich. His professional experience spans over 25 years in the field of finance, technology and innovation, including corporate finance in Telecom Italia, technology investment banking at Nomura and private equity at CDC Capital Partners in London. Marc Lemaître studied at Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and Bruges (College of Europe) and holds a Master in European Economics. He brings 20 years of profound experience in European Affairs, both in the European Commission and in the diplomatic service of Luxembourg. Between 1996 and 2006, he worked in the Permanent Representation of Luxembourg to the European Union, dealing with budgetary, trade and general affairs issues. He joined the Commission in 2007 as Head of the private office of Regional Policy Commissioner, Danuta Hübner, and then her successor, Paweł Samecki. Between 2010 and 2013, he led the private office of Budget Commissioner Janusz Lewandowski. Between 2013 and 2016, he managed, as Director, the Office for Administration and Payment of individual entitlements (PMO). Since September 2016 he is Director-General for Regional and Urban Policy. Luis Sanz is Director General of the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation since 1996, and member of its Executive Board. A trained sociologist, he is an expert consultant and senior adviser to different Science Parks worldwide and chief co-ordinator of 35 international conferences on Science and Technology Parks, regional development and innovation policies. He is author of numerous papers, books, articles and presentations on this topic and has participated as invited speaker in over 110 international conferences and seminars all over the world. Formerly he was the codirector of Valencia Technology Park (Spain) which he founded in 1987 and as positions of trust he has been Vice-President of the Spanish Association of Science Parks and President of the European Division of the IASP. Luis Sanz is also the head co-ordinator of the World Alliance for innovation (WAINOVA). Sergio Paoletti is Full Professor of Biochemistry at the Department of Life Sciences of the University of Trieste, where he was elected member of the Board of Directors ( ), Deputy Vice- Chancellor (September 2009-May 2013) and Acting Rector (May-July 2013). Since April 2016 he is President of AREA Science Park, major Science and Technology Park in Italy, under the aegis of the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research. He has been Chairman of the Bachelor degree in Biotechnology, and that of the Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Trieste. He was an expert of the Commission U.E. for the polysaccharides from algal sources and is responsible for Research Funds of various national and international public institutions, particularly in several European projects in the 6th and 7th Framework Programme. Gordana Danilović Grković has over twelve years experience in the SMEs support, especially start up support, business incubation and innovation, and eight year experience in the management of technology development projects. She has initiated the first Business technology incubator programme and established the first Business Incubator of the Technical faculties Belgrade with the purpose of providing the support to start ups as well as the spin off companies coming from the Technical faculties. Today, she is acting director of the first Science technology park Belgrade, established in June 2015 through the partnership of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, City of Belgrade and the University with the mission of creating the strong technology core and fostering the innovation development of the Republic of Serbia. STP Belgrade is growing very fast and now there are 60 high tech companies (28 growing and 32 startups) with more than 500 engineers.

9 Max Lemke is the Head of Unit for "Technologies and Systems for Digitising Industry" in Directorate General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology. He had a leading role in developing the European Strategy for Digitising Industry. He is now in charge of its coordination and governance, including core actions such as Digital Innovation Hubs and Digital Industrial Platforms. In the EU Research and Innovation programme Horizon2020, Max is responsible for the areas of embedded and cyber-physical systems, advanced computing, and ICT for manufacturing. Max is co-responsible in DG Connect for the Joint Technology Initiative ECSEL and the Public Private Partnership Factories of the Future. He has also launched the I4MS initiative. Max holds a Doctorate in Natural Sciences and has a scientific background in numerical mathematics, parallel computing, and software engineering.
