2 King of Pop: HIStory Welcome to the Uptown Music Collective s Annual Fundraising Performance. Tonight s performance is King of Pop: HIStory, and will feature over 30 students from the school s Special Performance Group 1, 14 UMC Alumni, and a few special guests performing in a loving tribute to the King of Pop Michael Jackson ( ). All to raise money to make it possible for more young people to connect with the power of music through the school s scholarship/financial aid fund. Michael Jackson was a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. He was the complete package, singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actor. As the eighth child of the Jackson Family, he first came to world attention as the lead singer of the Jackson 5 at 6 years old. In 1971 he began his solo career, and over the course of the next 24 years racked up an incredible number of hit songs, and ultimately was recognized as the Most Successful Entertainer of All Time by Guinness World Records. Jackson s album, Thriller, is the best-selling album of all time, with estimated sales of 65 million copies worldwide. Jackson s other albums, including Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory (1995), also rank among the world s best-selling albums. He Jackson is one of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, and was also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Dance Hall of Fame as the only dancer from pop and rock music. His other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records, 13 Grammy Awards, the Grammy Legend Award, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, 26 American Music Awards more than any other artist including the Artist of the Century and Artist of the 1980s, 13 number-one singles in the United States during his solo career, more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era and estimated sales of over 350 million records worldwide. In tonight s performance, the students and alumni of the Uptown Music Collective, will muster all of their energy and talent to pay tribute to this incredible musical icon. The show, as with all UMC shows, is Produced and Directed by the students and alumni volunteers. Tonight s show is produced by alumni AJ Robbins and Kelsey Silvagni, and directed by seniors Hailey Beck and Maya Caringi. They were assisted by the members of the SPG1 Leadership Committee, Tate Berkey, Izzy Brumbaugh, Alexis Carnevale, David Chubirka, Isabella Cole, Mitchell Gartner, Keely Krause, David Montis, Cade Palmatier, Enso Tran, Jaron Williams, and Shayne Williams. I sincerely hope that you enjoy the performance. In an effort to live up to the legacy left by Michael Jackson no stone was left unturned in an effort to bring to the stage as of the brilliant production value found on his recordings, as well as to pay tribute to his incredible music performances.
