11 Non-Profit Comics The Oregon-based Normandy Guitars company has taken another bold step in its entrepreneurial venture. Founder Jim Normandy created a firstof-its-kind comic book series called Psycho Guitar Killers, a publication from which all proceeds will go to fund non-profits dedicated to the restoration of music education programs in America s public schools and to raising awareness of the positive impact music has on students. Order this counter-top display filled with 25 comic books for under $50 and help keep music programs in America s Schools! Music education programs have eroded in many cities and communities across the country over the past 30 years. This is our way of giving back and helping support a cause that is paramount in childhood education. Jim Normandy Two examples of music-based non-profits that Normandy Guitar s comic books proceeds will support are: Guitars in the Classroom and Rock n Roll Camp for Girls. Guitars in the Classroom is a free, national program that trains, supports and encourages teachers who want to integrate music-making in their lessons and school activities. 13 Reviews...The Normandy features over-wound alnico humbuckers that genuinely rock. No matter what amp we used, it provided a solid tone with loads of gain... One thing it didn t do was feed back we could make it happen but it took some effort. This is a boon for those who want to play a hollow body guitar at solid body levels through whatever amplification they prefer. There s nothing subtle about the big, bold tone. 14 Reviews...there are a plethora of great sounds in this guitar, from dark, jazz tones to bright pop... but don t let the archtop or the Bigsby fool you; this guitar is meant to rock... I have to tip my hat to Jim Normandy for creating such a musical instrument out of a material a lot of us had written off. The pickups sound warm and round, and combined with the guitar s spectacular clarity, the Normandy covers a wide swath of ground with very little effort... there s nearly infinite sustain: strike a chord and you can ride it well into next week. 15 Reviews Perhaps the most striking guitar in this cage match, the ATG-CH... The wide, slim neck felt good in my hands... and I had a blast performing stutters with the seemingly military grade kill switch. When you plug in, and go to the neck pickup, you get a deep, resonant boom along with a sharp attack that almost sounds as if you layered an ES-175 with a Tele. The combined pickup position tames the boom a bit and moves the snark forward to produce a taut, throaty snarl. Go for a full-on bridge-pickup tone and you ll hear a spiky, high-midrange snap with a shimmer of a Nashville tuned acoustic... Sounds are animated and dimensional. Overall, the USA made ATG-CH is well constructed, the chromed finish is dazzling in its hall of mirrors majesty... Michael Molenda, Guitar Player Magazine, February 2009
