1 Operating a Successful Business in a Down Market Pro Mobile Notary of Novato, CA Thank you NNA! First and Foremost: A heartfelt thank you to the NNA for putting together such a great company, a great resource for Notaries everywhere and for allowing me the opportunity to visit with you today and share some of my perspectives on business in general and the Notary signing agent end of the industry. Objectives To share thoughts and ideas on how to approach business when the industry is slower than usual 1

2 I- Why are you in this challenging business? Part-time to supplement your income? Something to do in your retirement? Working up to a full-time career? Another service to offer your existing clients in another career or industry? II- What is your business objective? Trying to get established? Continue to learn and expand your business and sphere of influence? Take things as they come? Stay where you are and enjoy the slower pace? You just like to drive around? III- Where do your personal passions reside? Have you thought of sharing your personal passions with others? Do you think that like minded people could be in a business position to give you orders? Have you merged your personal network with your business network? 2

3 IV- Do you have an action plan for your business? Is it in writing? Is it realistic? Is it achievable? Do you believe you can accomplish your goal? It is important! V- Do you belong to any networking groups? It is a good vehicle for securing local GNW for frictionless cash flow. It is great for connecting with people that might know escrow officers, settlement agents, attorneys, financial planners or lenders. It gives you more exposure. Allows you access to input & perspectives of others in the business to help you fine-tune your approach and presentations. VI- What are you doing to market and promote yourself? This was, is and will remain a relationship driven business. Business relationships are essential to being successful. Use your slack-time to market and promote more effectively. 3

4 VII- How do you work on your business & not just in your business? Set aside a specific amount of time to work on your business. It must be a regular weekly task Enhance your existing skills and acquire new ones. Learn to do car title loans Seek out other Notary in your area and form a meetup.com group Learn to do I-9 notarizations (if your State allows it) Learn to do immigration notarizations (if your State allows it) Develop a way to market that is different from your local competition Consider mindfulness training and get trained in it VIII- Your attitude is the only Record your end of phone conversations with schedulers, escrow officers, settlement agents and loan officers. Then, listen to them repeatedly Keep a mirror next to your phone, watch your face and force yourself to smile while talking on the phone. It does change the quality of your voice IX- Your attitude is the only Survey your clients Ask them to evaluate what you do and for suggestions on how to do things better. Grab a larger portion of the business in your market area It is challenging to love your business when times are tough, be proactive. 4

5 X- Your attitude is the only Zig Ziglar often says If you can think it and believe it, you can achieve it. Lastly Have you thought of using your down time to take a course or learn a new skill to offer your clients?
