1 10 Master Mind Mastermind Groups Mastermind Groups Masterminding is where you would get together with five to six trusted people from various occupations and you share ideas as well as problems with on a weekly basis. This idea started way back in the 1800 s and the idea came from a gentleman by the name of Napoleon Hill. Three men formed a mastermind group at the turn of the 19th century: Harvey Firestone; Henry Ford; and Thomas Edison Two brothers mastermind together with their mother and developed the first airplane, better known as the Wright brothers. In Grade 8, computers were bought with the earnings from a cookie dale. These computers were used as a tool by two men who later did the programming in high school for the Seattle Electric Company. Today, they own one of the largest companies in the world, Paul Allan and Bill Gates. The outcome of these meetings will shed some light on the areas that you and your colleagues have individual problems. Such problems can be such things as staff problems, how to market your product properly etc. Harvey Firestone Henry Ford Thomas Edison 10-1

2 Tips for a Sucessful Mastermind Group The meeting can be done in the early morning before the phones are ringing off the hook or after 6 pm. Avoid in your mastermind group individuals that do not get along with each other. Eat before starting: If your group is getting together after 6pm, ensure that you have eaten. You sure do not want to try and think on an empty stomach. Open Minded: Your group should be open minded as well be able to give their own opinion on any subject. Remember you are there to help each other to be the best you can be. Room Setting: The setting should be in a room where you will not be interrupted for at least 11/2 hours. Table Leader: There should also be a group leader. His/her job is to keep the conversation rolling in the right direction. Each person has the floor for 12 minutes to discuss their problem of the week and the group will share their ideas to fix the problem. Personal Brain Storming Another type of meeting is with you. This is your time as an owner to have a check list to ensure that all is well with your company from your finances to brainstorming. Questions to yourself can be: how can I create more capital, what creative ways you can do business with associates as well as how you can outsmart your competition. In this chapter are templates for you to use when you are planning your weekly meeting. 10-2

5 Know Your Competition Do some research on your competition. What are their prices, their policies, etc. With this information, you can make informed decisions on how to outwit or to perform better. 10-5
