1 Foundations of Technology Foundations of Technology Syllabus Objective: To prepare students through individual as well as group activities to understand, apply, and process basic skills for implementing technology. Increase student awareness, basic skills, and problem solving skills. Guide and help students with reading and understanding basic directions, introductory geometric shapes, measurements (metric, sae, engineers ruler) and how and why to know conversions. Help students design, measure, size, and manually produce a product: such as a model rocket, Delta Dart, basic 110v electricity, or other activities while developing problem-solving skills that relate to post secondary school. Immediately inform students as to any news that may be local or worldwide that relates to technology, the economy, and or their life potential. Materials: (1) ea. of good quality compass (drafting), 12 ruler (SAE & Metric Scales, protractor, quad lined notebook, writing and coloring pens and or pencils Classroom/ lab Expectations No food or drink, be ready to work at work stations when class starts (bell), self and mutual respect, and be up to date on assignments, projects, or daily assignments. Classroom should parallel a worksite or other post secondary situation whether student could be a student, intern, apprentice, or employee. Grading: 100% (Tests 35%) ( Labs/quizzes 30%) ( projects/daily work/class participation/ and attendance 35%)

2 Interims reports and school wide grading periods as/school calendar Week 1: Rules, expectations, and to become acclimated to the class. Discuss how measuring devices, tools, and other materials facilitate good results in the class. I.e.: 2.54 cm= 1 and 4.83 =4 10 Standards: 1:1 1:3 1:4 1:5 2:1 2:2 2:7 2:8 Week 2: Continue to build on week 1. Begin basic geometric discussions regarding shapes/angles/how measuring is an integral part of this classes use of geometry. I.e.: 360 degrees in a four sided figure and a circle. On the face of a clock, there are 360 degrees and ea. degree has 60 minutes, and each minute has 60j seconds. Begin evaluation (grading) of project. Standards: 1:1 1:3 1:4 1:5 2:1 2:2 2:7 2:8 3:2 3:3 Week 3: Continue to build on previous weeks. Begin drawing and measuring activities along with the model rocket fin. Practice developing manual drawing skills along with functional understanding. Vocabulary, acronyms and other conversations used that relate to post secondary education or life. Continue evaluation (grading) of project. Standards: 1:1 1:3 1:4 1:5 2:1 2:2 2:7 2:8 3:2 3:3 4:1 4:2 5:2 Week 4: cut patterns or templates for model rocket parts (fin, fuselage, anchor, and proper placement. Investigate launch necessities. Continue evaluation (grading) of project. Standards: 1:1 1:3 1:4 1:5 2:1 2:2 2:7 2:8 3:2 3:3 4:1 4:2 5:2 5:3 5:4 5:5 Week 5: cut patterns or templates for model rocket parts. Assemble model as/ model rocket manual. Continue evaluation (grading) of project.

Continue evaluation (grading) of project. Model rocket launch is predicated on weather, school functions, completion of rockets by fellow students Week 8: Continue to build on previous weeks. Continue to draw, measure with ruler and or protractor and compass, cut patterns or templates for various models, two stage model rocket, and or Delta Dart or Hot Air Balloon. Work toward a complete assembled model as/ model directions and manuals dictate. Continue evaluation (grading) of project Week 9: Continue to build on previous weeks.
