1 Course: Math Grade: 7 Unit Plan: Geometry Length of Unit: Enduring Understanding(s): Geometry is found in the visual world in two and three dimension. We use geometry daily in problem solving. Essential Question(s): How do we use geometry in daily problem solving? Focus Questions: How do you describe geometric shapes? How do you solve problems using geometric formulas? Assessments: Pre-assessment: Formative Assessment: Class room observation Home learning and practice sheets Class activities Class notes Poster activity: 3D Shapes and Nets Summative assessment: Booklet Project: Plane shapes, Angles and Diagonals ( understanding and calculations of angles and diagonals ) Scale Drawing Quiz: Vocabulary Unit test: Application of formulas(area and perimeter) Identification and characteristics of shapes Unit test : Three-dimensional Shapes Identification Unit Test : Application of formulas for Surface Area and Volume Mathematical Practices 1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. 2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively. 3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. 4. Model with mathematics. 5. Use appropriate tools strategically. 6. Attend to precision. 7. Look for and make use of structure. 8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
2 Domain: The student will be able to: Draw, construct, and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationships between them. The student will KNOW these facts : 7G1 Solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures. Compute actual lengths and areas from scale drawings. Reproduce a scale drawing at different scales. 7G -2 Triangles: Identify and measure angles: straight, acute, obtuse, right Identify and classify triangles: right, scalene, isosceles, equilateral, equiangular. Construct a triangle (freehand, with ruler and protractor, and technology) given three angle measures. Construct a triangle (freehand, with ruler and protractor, and technology) given three side measures. Describe when angle measures determine a triangle (given angles equal 180 ) or not triangle (given angles are greater or less than 180 ). Describe when side measures determine a unique triangle (a + b is greater than c) or no triangle (a + b is less than c). 7G-3 Slices: Describe two-dimensional figures that result from slicing a three dimensional figures: Rectangular prism (right) Rectangular pyramid ( right) 7G - 4 Circles: Identify properties of circles. Identify the parts of a circle: radius, chords, diameter, area degrees, circumference, center, and sector. Derive the relationship between the circumference and area of a circle. Solve problems utilizing the circumference of a circle formula. Solve problems utilizing the area of a circle formula. Class activity: Scale drawing (S) Class practice : Triangle Properties using compass and straight edge ( F ) Quiz: Triangle identification and properties (S) Ch. 5 ( 5-9, 5-10, 6-8, 6-9) Basic geometry :4-5, 4-8, 6-7 Class activity: Slicing 3D shapes (F) Quiz: Circle Vocabulary Application of Formulas Circumference Class notes: ( F) Class activity:
