1 Broadcast: May 4, 2005 FX: Thunder. Music: A day in Tunisia. Fern Scott Olsson: Keith Foster: Here s another one Oh, hello! A little while ago we read some ghost stories for you here at UR and we asked you to send in some of your very own stories in English. And we d had quite a few, haven t we Fern? Yes, it s great! We re very impressed with all the effort that everyone has made. It s terrific, really. And some of them are very scary indeed. So what we are going to do now is that Fern and I are going to read three of them. But of course we ve received plenty more, but you can find those as well. All you have to do is to look at our website and there you ll find some more ghost stories. So, what have we got in the pile here? Oh, here s a scary poem! Can you read it? I ll give it a try. Slayer, by Patrik Johansson. Eyes. Glowing, burning straight into the back of the skull. Looking straight at the soul, laughing at what they see. A gaze radiating hunger pain. 1

2 A hunter s moon rising Revealing a huge chest, heaving like a bellows. Powerful limbs, heavy muscle. Terror embodied Eyes changing Rage, fury, madness. A gleaming blade. Blood. Flowing escaping. Red so red. Cold. Darkness. Those eyes green. Oh, that s a bit frightening! And now it s your turn to read. Music: Tabula Rasa The shadow in the cave, by Ramona H Järnving. Music: Tabula Rasa Once upon a time I was at home all alone. My mum and dad had gone for a trip to grandma for the weekend. My friend Maria should sleep over in our house. She left her house on Friday evening at ten o clock. She had to walk through a forest and I was waiting for her to come. When it was about eleven o clock I was beginning to be worried; it only took twenty minutes to walk. I called up her parents and asked if she had left home yet and she had. Her parents got anxious. They took their car and drove to me. FX: Car arriving, night ambience. We began to look for Maria. Her mum cried and I saw that Maria s dad was also worried. After thirty minutes we stopped looking and they called the police. FX: Dog barking, night ambience. Music: Tabula Rasa. 2

3 They began to search for Maria and they told us to go home and sleep. I spent the night at Maria s. The next morning the police called her parents and said that they had not found Maria, but they would keep looking for her. I was worried and Maria s parents too. But I ate my breakfast and got out. FX: Door slams, day ambience, birds. I went to the forest where Maria had disappeared. I began to search for some footprints of Maria. I walked the way we always do, then I stopped. FX: Craw. I saw a shadow behind a tree and I became afraid. What was it? Where did it come from? I followed the shadow, but suddenly it disappeared. I saw a cave. Maybe Maria was in there. But if she was the police ought to have found her. FX: Inside cave, water dripping. I went inside the cave and when I was almost at the end I saw Maria! Was she dead or did she only sleep? I began to run to the exit of the cave, but someone had put a stone over the exit. FX: Drops of water. FX: Drops of water. I was afraid, very afraid. I picked up my flash light and shone it on Maria. I talked to her, but she didn t move or wake up. Music: Tabula Rasa. It was then I really knew that she was dead. Was it Maria s ghost that was the shadow? I don t know. And no one will ever know, because now I have disappeared too. Music: Tabula Rasa. We know that story was very different from the first one, but I liked that one too. Yes, me too. Oh, here s another one, it s also a poem. 3

4 Aha. (Clears his throat) The empty house, by Simon Orädd. FX: Owl. It was a dark night, the sky was black. In the empty house in the end of the street someone was back. FX: Ghostly laugh. Music: Two short pieces. Roaring and screaming sounds from the house. Everybody runs, even a little mouse. A little girl comes near the house, a little bit too near. Someone stood there and she felt fear. In front of her was a giant thing. And it said Give me the ring! The girl started screaming and ran out in the street. Next morning, the girl woke up and her heart was beat. When the girl threw the ring on the street. Scared she was but curious too. She started thinking What should I do? The monster had claws and fangs. To destroy it she would need some tanks. But the girl was curious and went back to the house. But all she found there was a little mouse. The girl went back to find the ring. But it was gone, she didn t find a thing. And you maybe wonder what happened with the ring Still today, no one knows a thing. But she was desperate to find a clue. On the ground where the ring had lay, the ground was blue. There were footsteps, long and big. They lead into a small underground cave, so she started to dig. 4

5 Deep down she spotted a light. But she didn t see what, it was out of sight. Music: Two short pieces. She moved closer, the light was near. She saw what it was and she felt fear. A vampire stood in front of her and it was sad. It said I m not dangerous, so don t be afraid and don t be mad. He took the ring and put it on his finger. Then he became a beautiful singer. Music: Wanderin star The girl was excited and got an idea. She started writing a story by a cup of tea. Do you want to know that story too? Well, I have just read it to you. That was a great story too. It s been really fun reading all of them! Have you ever written any ghost stories Fern? Are you kidding? Tons of them!
