2 INTRODUCTIONS THE CHUTZ-POW! SERIES uses the medium of the graphic novel to depict true tales of heroism. This second volume includes stories of international superheroes, ordinary men and women who fought against the dominant Nazi ideology and fought for the victims, proving that real people risked death to save lives during the Holocaust. Real heroes existed in one of the darkest periods of history. And it is still possible to be a hero now! I hope that you will be as inspired as I am by these stories of rescue and resistance and by the beauty on each page. 33 The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh established the Holocaust Center in The Center acts as a comprehensive resource center to help people of all beliefs learn about the Holocaust. Through sharing this knowledge, the center seeks to foster tolerance and social justice applying the lessons of the past to the challenges of the present and future. For the first time in over two years, the Holocaust Center will welcome the public to interact with our artifacts and exhibitions, host school tours and presentations, and have an interactive research center and library for all. The new space at 826 Hazelwood Avenue (Pittsburgh, PA 15217) will open the door for potential new donors and supporters, and transform the Holocaust Center into the best resource for Holocaust Education and Programming in the region. Through our programs and educational reach in the region, we help further strengthen the foundations of Jewish Community Life and Identity in Pittsburgh. WALKER graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and from 1993 to 1999 was an art instructor at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Today he is the Artist-in-Residence at Pittsburgh s ToonSeum, The Museum of Cartoon Art, where he teaches workshops and has contributed artwork to their NORTH and OAKLAND anthology comic-books.
