From studying a still life in the classroom to studying distant horizons outdoors, the students have felt safe and brave enough to reveal their thoughts, visions, and emotions through their art. This feeling of security comes only in a supportive environment. And this type of courage is only present in the confident child who is not afraid; one who has learned that he/she is accepted; that he/she is capable of doing great things only because he/she is loved in a way that allows the spirit to breathe. The power of art opens doors in life that free the spirit and unleash boundaries set by negativity and fear. Yet the power of the art can only be experienced by a young mind only if the adults in their life encourage it and support it. The young students of the HFI CATHY PELUSI ART STUDIO attend class on a consistent basis because of the wonderful and structured care they receive from the men and women titled as Unit Leads and Staff the HFI CATHY PELUSI ART STUDIO knows these caring individuals as moms and dads, big brothers and sisters who make a difference in the young lives placed in their care. Not only do they encourage their children to participate in fine art classes, they sh ow their support by creating art side by side right along with them. The joy and achievement that is experienced by the young students through the HFI CATHY PELUSI ART STUDIO has only been made possible because of the countless wonderful individuals such as these. Seeking Joy by Multiple Artists 1601 Brighton Ave (Brighton Rd by Freedmore St) California-Kirkbride, Pittsburgh PA , Here's the one-minute version: Since January 2012 we've been riding our bicycles to murals and public artwork all over the Pittsburgh region. We took pictures, did some research, and we were amazed at the range and quality of public art in Pittsburgh so we built this website hoping to be of use to others who might be interested. Here's a little bit more: We rode our bikes to every one of these murals. We have not dealt with any interior murals. We did encounter some sculptures and mosaics on our bikes, and we've invoked curator's discretion as to whether or not to include them. We really haven't engaged commercial murals yet. Pittsburgh is a city of neighborhoods, so we've organized the murals by neighborhood. ~ AboutPghMurals.com Faith, Hope and Love. Those are the messages tied to Seeking Joy, a mural inspired and modeled after Les Iris by Vincent van Gogh. This mural was done by the students of the Holy Family Institute s Cathy Pelusi Art Studio and donated to Common Ministries on Brighton Road. This mural and it s message are so important. Common Ministries operates the largest food pantry in the area and serves the needs of many of the area s homeless. A few days before they unveiled the mural, students and teachers worked on adding the garden boxes with the written message of what they wanted the mural to represent. For the students this was all about giving back to the community. For the community it's a wonderful addition to the landscape and a bright spot in everyone s lives.
