Set against the sprawling metropolis of a grey London we meet Gina McVey, a beautiful twenty-something who manages to float above the crap that living in a modern city can throw at you.

3 Set against the sprawling metropolis of a grey London we meet Gina McVey, a beautiful twenty-something who manages to float above the crap that living in a modern city can throw at you. Gina works as a radiologist at a large hospital. At a surprise birthday party for her father we meet the people most important in her life: her brother Daniel, his girlfriend Kate, her boyfriend Stefan, and her father John, who works for the American Embassy. During the dinner party a mirror falls from the wall and smashes. As they all clean up the mess, Gina jokes about seven years bad luck, but the mention of the superstition hangs tensely in the air. The next day, on her way home, Gina thinks she sees herself drive past in her own car. Stunned by this strange event, she follows the car into a car park and follows the woman up to her apartment. There, she unexpectedly discovers a photo of her father with this woman who looks identical to her. Gina hears the footsteps of the woman coming towards her and we jump cut to Gina driving away in her car. This leaves us with the feeling that something happened in the apartment that was not revealed. While driving, Gina runs a red light and smashes into a truck. Gina is brought home from the hospital by Stefan and has difficulty remembering the details surrounding the crash. The complexity of what she thought happened combined with a growing sense of dread leads her to enlist the help of a counsellor called Robert. Robert directs her on a trail to piece together the events before the accident and in doing so Gina starts to unravel a much deeper and darker secret which finally leads her back to the woman s apartment. Awaiting her there is a secret that will confirm her worst fears and change the boundaries of her reality forever.

4 In a modern approach to the horror genre, THE BRØKEN is awash with haunting visuals from the school of Edgar Allen Poe. Aware that the idea of horror is always more horrific than the actual, the movie goes back to the minimalism of the traditional horror film. The bastard child of Don't Look Now and Jacob's Ladder, THE BRØKEN has been designed for maximum effect. It plays to the question that often scares our conscious mind: what if? The slow 'pressure cooker' invasion of Gina's family and the rising stakes on her sanity combine with the idea that horror has a physical identity. This horror is coming from somewhere unknown, it will stop at nothing, and it is coming for you.

Oscar-nominated director Sean Ellis started taking pictures when he was 11. Trained as a still life photographer, Sean moved to London from Brighton in 1994.

Trained as a still life photographer, Sean moved to London from Brighton in Applying his knowledge of still life and using it to light fashion models, Sean became one of the new generation of fashion photographers who were most sought-after in the late nineties. Named as one of the top 10 photographers in the country by The Independent on Sunday, his work with magazines such as i-d, The Face, Arena, Arena Homme Plus, Visionaire, Dazed and Confused, Numero, French, British, Japanese and American Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and Big magazine has often pushed the darker side of fashion photography with a style that has been described as 'cinematic'. This led to a crossover with moving film, starting with his Brit Award winning All Saints video 'Never Ever' and commercials for Jean Paul Gaultier, Land Rover, Rimmel and O2. Sean has written and directed two short films which were produced through Ridley Scott's RSA Films. LEFT TURN (2001), a dark psychological horror film, and the recent CASHBACK (2004) a visually rich drama-comedy. Nominated for a 2006 Academy Award, CASHBACK won the top award at over fourteen international film festivals, including the prestigious Chicago and Tribeca Film Festivals. The short film was incorporated into a feature-length version of CASHBACK, which Sean wrote and directed in 2005 as his feature debut. THE BRØKEN, a psychological horror film, is his second feature.
