When will Energy Star be on the package? Packages are marked accordingly. Where there is a discrepancy between the packaging and the specification and FAQ sheets, the FAQ and spec sheets are correct. 3. What are the differences between the 3M residential A19 bulbs and the commercial A19 lamp? They are different lamps. There are five main areas of difference: - The commercial lamps are certified for use in enclosed luminaries per section 8.5 of UL Watts consumed are lower with the commercial lamps - The commercial lamps are available in a 700 lumen, 10W version - The commercial lamps provide increased lifetime - The commercial lamps warranty is for 12 hours/day verses 3 hours/day; both have 5-year warranties 4. What types of dimmers are these compatible with? 3M publishes a list of compatible dimmers on our website 3MLighting.com/LED. 3M lamps should be tested with any dimmer to ensure compatibility. 5. 2 6. What Kelvin temperature are the lamps? Do you have an X Lamp? What is CRI? The color rendering index (CRI), sometimes called color rendition index, is a quantitative measure of the ability of a light source to reproduce the colors of various objects faithfully in comparison with an ideal or natural light source. Light sources with a high CRI are desirable in situations calling for natural appearance of illuminated objects, though in some cases, e.g. retail applications, enhancement of a particular color of light will improve optical results even at the expense of a lowered CRI. 9. What does it mean when we say our CRI is better? Better CRI means that illuminated objects appear closer to the color that they appear under natural sunlight.

3 10. What color range is soft white vs. cool white? Soft white has a Correlated Color Temperature (CCT) of 3000k. Cool white has a CCT of 4000k. 11. How important are lumens? We state how bright a lamp is by the number of lumens. Since different lamps have different efficiencies, lumens are a much better way to express the brightness of a lamp than watts. 12. What are lumens? Lumens are a measure of the brightness of the lamp and are a measure of the total amount of visible light emitted by a light source. Instead of measuring brightness in energy use (40 watts, 60 watts, etc.), measuring brightness in lumens is useful for comparing lamps with different energy use rates. 13. How many LED watts are actually consumed for each of the watt equivalents? The spots and floods lamps cannot be used in a totally enclosed luminaire. The 700 lumen A19 product line may be installed into fully enclosed fixtures as defined by UL 1993, and are tested with enclosed flush-mounted recessed lighting fixtures. However, installation into fixtures that do not allow adequate heat transfer (such as unvented jelly jar fixtures, etc.) can cause shortened lifetimes and possible early failure. Make sure the lamp does not see a temperature greater than 40⁰C. 18. On the A19 package, why does it say, "Useful life of lamp may be diminished if used in a fully enclosed luminaire" on the package? The product was tested and meets the requirements set forth in UL Thus it may be installed into fully enclosed fixtures as defined by that test protocol. If the lamp is installed in fixtures that allow less heat transfer than is specified in the test protocol, such as smaller or unvented fixtures, then the lamp will equilibrate to a higher operating temperature, and as with all LED lamps and electronic devices, higher operating temperatures generally result in shorter product lifetimes.

5 19. How much of the A19 useful life is diminished if used in an enclosed luminaire? Since every enclosed fixture is different, the impact of heat build-up will vary. 20. Why does it look like the top part of the A lamp doesn't light up as much as the bottom portion? The surface of the A19 lamp is a light guide, and is engineered to direct light in a manner that is unique to the industry. Each portion of the light guide is responsible to send light in a particular direction. This results in excellent distribution of light, meaning that illuminated items see uniform brightness, even though from any particular location, the surface of the lamp will appear to have varying brightness. 21. Why is the A lamp 2.75-inch in diameter when the A19 ANSI spec is inches? The 3M lamp doesn't meet the A19 specification. There is more than one A19 ANSI specification and 3M meets one of the A19 ANSI specifications. 22. Do the 3M LEDs qualify for rebates? It depends. There are two rebate formats, prescriptive and custom. Prescriptive rebates typically require an Energy Star rating to qualify. Custom rebates typically do not require and Energy Star rating to qualify. Please contact 3M at (800) for specific rebate questions. 23. How do I tell which is a flood lamp and which is a spot lamp? What do the acronyms mean? 6 25. Can the lamp be used in a jelly jar fixture? The spots and floods lamps cannot be used in a totally enclosed luminaire. The 700 lumen A19 product line may be installed into fully enclosed fixtures as defined by UL 1993, and are tested with enclosed flush-mounted recessed lighting fixtures. Incandescent bulbs contain filaments that break with vibration. 3M LED lamps are solid state devices with no filament that can break. 3M LED lamps tolerate vibration similar to other LED lamps. 27. Can the lamp be used at X temperature? The current temperature range this lamp will work is from -20⁰C to + 40⁰C. 28. Can the BR, PAR and MR16 be used in enclosed fixtures? These lamps are not approved for use in a totally enclosed luminaires. 29. Why are the spot and flood lights so light? We designed these lamps using a lightweight alloy to create the crimp fin technology that makes them lightweight. 30. What is the compatibility of our MR16 with Lightech and WAC transformers? 7 31. Is there an issue with these lamps turning on at low temperatures? LED lamps, unlike CFLs perform as well as or better than the LED lamp at ambient temperatures. The only caution is to ensure condensation is not an issue with the fixture. 32. Why do you have UL on some lamps and ETL on others? UL and ETL are independent testing laboratories. Each of these agencies tests product to the same standard. 33. What is ETL? Like the UL Mark, the ETL Listed Mark shows that our product has been independently tested by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL), that it has met the minimum requirements of widely accepted product safety standards and that the company with the ETL mark has agreed to periodic follow-up inspections to verify continued compliance. And like the UL Mark, the ETL Listed Mark is recognized and readily accepted by manufacturers, retailers, distributors and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs). The true legal requirement to test and certify products for sale in the United States is a designation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as a NRTL. An NRTL functions to provide independent evaluation, testing and certification of any electrically operated product. The ETL listing mark is provided by Intertek, an NRTL in the United States, and is also a Testing Organization and Certifying Body in Canada per the Standards Council of Canada. A product bearing the ETL Listed Mark is determined to have met the minimum requirements of prescribed product safety standards. Both UL and ETL marks demonstrate that the product that bears it has met the minimum requirements of widely accepted product safety standards as determined through the independent testing of an NRTL. 34. Can I mix and match incandescent and your LED lamp on the same light bar? Mixing LED and incandescent lamps may not be a good idea depending upon the level of heat the incandescent lamps emit. 35. 8 36. Why does 3M make light bulbs? 3M has an 80-year history of light management and is known for bringing innovative products to market. With 3M's light guide technology, 3M is able to manufacture a lamp that replicates the form and function of a traditional incandescent bulb, but with all the advantages of LED technology. 37. What is a light guide? A light guide is a structure that captures, transports and releases light in a controlled manner. 38. What is the "pattern" that I see on the lamp surface? The pattern is actually a collection of light extraction points that let light escape in a controlled manner from the light guide. 39. What does 60-watt, 57-watt or 40-watt equivalent mean? The 60-, 57- or 40-watt equivalent means that the 3M LED advanced light lamps emit the same amount of light as traditional 60-, 57- and 40-watt lamps, but without using the same amount of energy. 40. If my light fixture says "use 40W max" can I use a brighter lamp? You can use any of the 3M lamps in place of a 40-watt max rating. All of our lamps list the amount of energy consumed in watts. As long as the fixture accepts the lamp, and the lamp power consumption is less than the rating on the luminaire, it can be used. 41. Where are the lamps made? The A19 lamp is assembled in New Ulm, Minnesota. The spot and flood lights are manufactured to 3M specifications in China. 42. What is the life of the lamp? 9 43. Why is there more than one color temperature? 3M LED lamps are available in both warm and cool color temperatures. The warm lamps work well with earth tones often found in homes and typically can replace an incandescent bulb appearance. Warm color hues can create a space that draws you in or is more intimate. Cool lamp colors work well for task lighting or in rooms with blue color hues. This color can expand the appearance of a room or space. 44. What is the commercial LED lamp warranty? LIMITED WARRANTY: 3M warrants that this lamp will be free from defects in material and workmanship and will operate for a period of five years under normal usage based on up to 12 hours average usage per day for seven days per week, when used in accordance with package and bulb directions. 3M makes no other warranties express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. If this product fails to conform to this warranty, your exclusive remedy and 3M s sole obligation shall be, at 3M s option to replace the 3M product or refund the purchase price of the 3M product upon receipt of returned bulb and sales receipt and proof of purchase. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights vary from state to state. 45. Can 3M spot and flood lamps be used with diffusers and other items in front of them? ALL 3M spots and floods can be used with diffusers. Actually, there are few restrictions to putting diffusers, or even color films, or waffle fronts and glare guards on our product to keep the light pointed directly at an object. The key is to not enclose the spot and flood lamps into a sealed fixture. 46. What is LEED? LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, created by the USGBC (US Green Building Council, a private non-profit organization) to provide voluntary, third-party certification of sustainable ("green") buildings. There are separate LEED credits-based

10 systems for New Construction (NC), Core and Shell projects (CS), Commercial Interiors (CI), Existing Buildings Operation and Maintenance (EBOM), Schools, Healthcare, Retail, Homes and Neighborhood Development. Their scope ranges from issues regarding public transportation to water run-off, to the use of responsibly forested wood. Energy consumption and specifically lighting is only a very small aspect of LEED. 47. Do the 3M LED commercial lamps satisfy the requirements for LEED certification credits/points? Lighting plays a different role in LEED certification, depending on which rating system the project is following; however, for NC, the primary area in which LED lighting can have an impact is within section EA (Energy and Atmosphere). EAp2 (Energy and Atmosphere prerequisite two) Minimum Energy Performance: this prerequisite requires the project to exceed certain baseline minimum standards for energy performance. Lighting systems typically constitute the highest energy use in commercial buildings, and as such can and should be included in these calculations. EAc1 (Energy and Atmosphere credit one) Optimize Energy Performance: this credit gives a graduated number of points based on how much energy the project saves over its baseline equivalent. The more energy saved, the more points the project achieves. The more efficient the lighting is, the more it can contribute to the points in this credit. Using energyefficient LED lighting throughout your project could be worth anywhere from one to 10 certification points. There are also credits available for Innovation in Design, where sourcing innovative products in the procurement process could earn you between one to four points towards LEED certification. LED lighting is a new and innovative technology and may qualify under this category. When determining which LED lamps and lighting systems to use in your LEED project, it is important to follow the guidelines outlined by the USGBC (usgbc.org). Their website can also direct you to a list of LEED-accredited professionals and experts in your area that can guide you throughout the LEED certification process. 48. Are 3M LED lamps recyclable? Please check with your local waste management authority for specific recycling and disposal requirements. 49. My lamp appears to be brown on the top half, is this lamp defective? No, this is the look of the lamp itself and it is not defective.
