2 Based on the Short Story Planet Time as a Helix of Semi-Precious Stones By Sam Delaney This is a multiplayer game with up to five players all assuming different identities of HCE as he tries to make it in the criminal underworld. Object Cards Disguises d Harol y Clanc t Evere The objective of the game is to be the first HCE to make it as a crime boss, or the player who reaches the highest level by the end of the game. Each player starts out as a cow farmer but progresses through the levels of pick pocket, mid-income thief, high crime, and crime boss by gaining experience and investing in legit businesses. -To get to the level of pick-pocket, a cow farmer must sell one suitcase of stolen goods - To get to the level of mid-income thief the player must earn,000 in tablets and sell three suit cases (in total) - To get to the level of high crime, a player must invest 0,000 in a legit business and sell five suitcases (in total) - To get to the level of crime boss, the player must invest,000 in a legit business and sell 8 suitcases (in total) Of course no selfrespecting thief would let on that they got their start as a cow farmer Harmony C. Eventide Each player starts out at one of the squares marked on the planet of the same color as their game piece. Players must move around planets circularly, though they can move in either direction. Squares marked on planets are object squares. From object squares, players draw cards that give them stolen goods or disguises. Players can also draw cards offering them investment opportunities or giving them tablet based on money earned through an investment. (if the player has any) Investing in a legit business is a good way to store a player s money, and they can add more to an investment every time they play an

3 investment card. On each investment card, the minimum investment needed will be indicated in tablets. By rolling two dice, the player can traverse through the six planet system, drawing cards on object, fence, and singer squares. If a player lands on a fence square, they can draw a fence card. Sometimes the fence will request a favor in exchange for buying his goods. The player can receive payment from the fence when he lays down the fence card with the combination of cards that the fence requested. For example a fence might request a disguise to be present at the transaction so the Player would have to lay down a disguise card in addition to the fence card and the suitcase card (the stolen good). Some fences are willing to pay more than others, while some will ask for two suitcases. In this case the player lays the fence card down and two suitcase cards. If the player lands on the singer square, which appears to be an orange square with a gem on it, than he can pick a gem from the black gem box. He picks the gem with the box lid partially on so he or the other players can t see what gem he picked. He then keeps the gem in a secret place. Gems are required as the code to get into Earth, where the fences are. Every two rounds, the season changes, with winter accepting blue gems, spring accepting pink gems, summer accepting red gems, and fall accepting orange gems. If a player wants to, or is trapped between two planets invaded by Maude, he can ride the intergalatic shuttle. The shuttle is the middle ring of the board that is normally stationary, but for the cost of half a turn (half the numerical value of the dice), a player can move the shuttle in one direction as much as he wants Maxium ten times -- (for that turn). Occassionally this has the power to switch the seasons on Earth, as the ring of seasons around Earth sometimes gets stuck to the middle ring, acting as a time warp from light speed travel. A player can only have object cards and client card in his hand at one time, for a total of cards. If a player wishes to draw a card after reaching the five card maximum, s/he must discard one before drawing. There is no limit to the amount of gems the player can have. in season, after that they must put in the gem from the season before and so on. If at any point one of the players doesn t have the necessary gem, they lose, and the other player takes his cards, choosing any cards he likes better than his own and discarding the surplus. If a player choses to attack another player, than he forfeits the rest of his turn and stays at the square he won, forcing the other player to flee to an adjacent square (the player can t collect a card if there is one on that square). If the player escapes his advances than the attacker has to chose another square to land on, though he still can t finish his turn. At the end of every round, Maud recalculates her hologram computer. This is accomplished by rolling a die. (Players take turns being Maude, going to a new person every round). If any player is standing on a square with the number the die landed on than they are in peril of losing all their money (that s not invested) and cards, unless they have a disguise. Finally every planet is on the cusp of being rewired with new crime fighting hardware. At the beginning of the game, each player mixed up the letter on their planet that contributes to the spelling of MAUDE, if any player lands on the square at the center of the board than they can fix one square. Once a square is fixed, it can not be put back! Once a planet has all its pieces assembled, then Maude has successfully wired that planet and it costs one disguise to travel on it. This is particularly bad for the player who orignates from that planet since they have to go back to it everytime they earn a new crime level chip, to place it in their orange chip holder. Once all the planets have been assembled to read MAUDE, the game is complete and who ever has risen to the highest crime level wins, becoming the personality HCE will keep for good! There s just something about that Maude. I can t put my finger on it. Fights and Run ins with Maude Normally a player can t land on a square that another player is already standing on. If a player wants to land on the square of another player, he can chose to attack him. An attack takes place between gems, the code of the streets. Both players must put down the gem that is
