2 Championnat du monde juniors garçons et filles de jeu de dames 2013 Junior world championship boys and girls checkers 2013 Draughts in the world Georgiev Alexander Best world player on January 1st 2013 The World Draughts Federation (officially Fédération Mondiale du Jeu de Dames FMJD), It was founded in 1947 by four federations, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland. Its main purpose was to regulate the competitions during the international championships. Though world championships were proclaimed as far back as 1897 in France and the Netherlands, the increase of the number of countries and the wish to have more regular competitions gave a boost to this international organization. From its very start, the FMDJ increased, and it is now composed of nearly fifty national participating federations. The FMJD has become a member a member of SportAccord, the umbrella organization for all internationally recognized sports, and in the case of draughts- non Olympic. As such, the FMJD is part of more general movements, the FIDE (chess) and the WBF (bridge), which integrate mind sports in the area of regularr sports, a development that in the vision of the FMJD is to be promoted. The competitions for the world title have been going with regularity; the succession of world champions is unbroken since the creation date. The bilateral struggle between France and the Netherlands changed into a multilateral struggle, in which Canada and the Soviet Union entered in 1956, producing champions from all over the world. In 1963 the world saw a Senegalese challenger for the title, who indeed became world champion. The Netherlands continued their bid for the highest title, and in the following decades the struggle was on between the Netherlands and the Soviet Union. After the fall of the Soviet regime, Russia continued to dominate the world championship, challenged only by the occasional success of Latvia. The FMJD has gradually widened its scope of activities: women's championships were introduced in 1973, juniors in 1971, cadets in 1988 and girls in Team championships, called "Olympiads" started in 1967 for the senior players and in 1987 for the juniors. Based solidly in Europe, the FMJD organized European championships since Tournaments are now held in Europe, Africa, Asia and America. For this latter system of tournaments, the FMJD has developed continental confederations to take care of all competitions at this level. Recently, in Europe, the individual championships, - for seniorss as well as for youth -, have been complemented by international club competitions. 5 Draughts in scholar environment The FFJD signed, with the Department of Education, a convention that allows it to work in partnership with primary and secondary schools in France, as part of the training to the subjects of the common programs. Toulouse and Lille are the two pilot towns. In Toulouse and its area, about ten educational establishments are concerned, that is to say more than 150 children who practice draughts every week. It promotes the development of social and human ties, socialization and integration of youth through clubs and tournaments, equality and the relationship between sexes and ages (mix in the leisure and/or competition activity itself). 5

7 Le Club Damier Mirapissien Created in 2011, it structures progressively, and in a promising way. The club can count on the teamwork of volunteers who act with seriousness and determination, as well as on the unwavering support of the municipality. Jacques Hannachi Trainer President of the Club Jacques or «Jacky» intervenes in the primary school of Mirepoix sur Tarn. About twenty young and ten adults frequent the club each Monday evening. We organized with success the final phases of the French Cup Organization the World Championship Juniors is for us a challenge that we proudly take up. To let know the educative and play virtues of this game to a good many people, as well as to the public authorities; to let our youth see how the future world elite of this mind game evolves, and thus offer them the sight of competitors from the whole world confronting each other friendly in intellectual matches, this is a project that is on our mind bearer of human values such as taste for effort, will to think, respect to each other, desire to surpass oneself and the pleasure to meet. 8 Draught World Championship Juniors (Boys & Girls) 2013 The European Championship Juniors was created by the FMJD in It organizes also Team European Championships called Olympiads. Here also Russians and Dutch take the lead, even if the world champion junior is Latvian: Leonid Cilevics. As to France, it has in Kevin Matchelinck a serious challenger. Among girls, it is a Chinese called HANGING, who is world champion. About twenty countries are awaited: Russia, China, the Netherlands, Senegal, Mongolia, that is to say about hundred persons. The club of Mirepoix supports the material organization of the event, but it is the FMJD who looks after the sportive aspects. Games will be played after the international draught rules. An international arbitrator and two assessors will guarantee the smooth running of the games. Results, photos, information, comments will be published on the official website of the championship, with retransmission of the games on internet. Media coverage will be done by press, radio, TV, posters, flyers.
